  1. So I recently ordered my first rep and decided on a Breitling Super Ocean Heritage from Ali for $80. I never purchased anything the site before so I was slightly worried. I was very surprised when the watch came in less than 1 week! It's safe to say, for $80 I'm VERY pleased with how this rep turned out. I do see myself replacing the band at some point. Feel free to request more photos, I've never photographed a watch before so I don't really know the proper angles

  7. Printing test this morning on premium semi-glossy paper and decals. Its nice but it's not as good as on screen. Thin details like SWISS are not well printed. The final result can only be seen on brass plate.

  11. "With this other one it may have a damaged set lever or yoke and the date wheel needs to come out as it has serious keyless works problems which I did not recall upon receiving the watch." Sounds like the set lever was simply shoved out of place by stuffing the stem into the movement when in winding position. "Serious keyless works problems" is always a good excuse. It is hard to break anything in the 28xx etas. Anyone who claims to be an 'experienced' watch repair guy and can not get a date wheel with dw overlay off and on an Eta 2836 without damage needs to park his screwdrivers. The problem is usually the dw overlay being loose to start with and coming off either before or after the watch was worked on. This is usually not the fault of the repair guy. The trouble spot...you have to be very careful because the screw under the edge of the dw overlay that holds the thin silver colored plate to the movement can jack the dw overlay up off the date wheel or bend the overlay when removing it...this is with 9mm off center dw overlays. The screw that holds this plate down has a large diameter skirt on it so a smaller diameter screw head might help. Normal 10mm offset dw do not have this problem. "being just a "tinkerer" I can't get that a professional cannot just do it..." You would be surprised at the 'pros' who can not or will not do this type of work. I started out working on junk and it prepared me for this type of 'jaybird engineering'. Ha! Btw...I still work on a lot of junk.

  12. Hi everyone, I just went through tapping a Silix 6538 case to accept Athaya's 8mm Brevet crown. The cases needed to be drilled first and then needed to be tapped to accept the crown. Hope some of you find this useful Tools & Parts: - Silix 5510/6538 case - Rat tail file - Table Vise - Cordless Drill (>7.8volt) - Lubricant for metal cutting - Tap Wrench - 3.5mm Cobalt Drill Bit - M4x0.35mm Tap First step is to remove the existing tube (look how tiny that Silix tube looks!). I used a rat tail file to grip the inner tube. Once you've got a good grip, simply unscrew counter-clockwise. Voila! Next, you secure the case in the table vise. Lube the hole where the tube was and use the 3.5mm Cobalt drill bit with your cordless drill. I used my 7.8v first, but wasn't as effective so I used my 20v. Had to be patient but wasn't difficult at all. Drill all the way through. Be sure to clean off any burrs. You can use that same rat tail file from earlier. Now you need to put that M4 tap onto the tap wrench. Make sure you get the 0.35mm pitch! 0.7mm are more common, but they won't work! I've purchased mine from Merlintools on Ebay for $12 per. Get a couple while you're at it. I couldn't photograph since both my hands were occupied, but once the tap bites onto the case you do a 1 turn clock-wise and then 1/2 turn counter clock-wise. By going counter clock-wise you're removing the excess steel. Athaya tubes are pretty long so I went all the way through the case. Now you should be able to hand screw that new tube in most of the way. Towards the end I used that rat tail file again to tighten all the way down. NOTE: if you have a choice, use the triangular file. Cone shaped are very difficult to remove from the tube because it bites more area on the tube. And there we go BONUS: So we know 3.5mm Cobalt and an M4x0.35mm tap is needed for the 8mm Brevet Athaya crown and tube. For Rolex Explorer 1016s to accept the 6mm gen crown and tube, you'll need to drill out the case using 0.110" or #35 first and use the M3x0.35mm tap. If you aren't up for it, jmb is your go to TC 16610 to gen tube seems to have the same diameter so drilling doesn't seem necessary. It would use the same tap as the 1016, M3x0.35mm. 13. Some time ago The Zigmeister posted some very nice tutorials on how to use your watch and avoid excessive wear and rear and he called these tutorials "Replica watch Basics"! He mentioned somewhere the following: "There are two basic types of automatic watches, those that wind in both directions, and those that wind in one direction......" ".....all Asian models are unidirectional (at least the ones I have seen). Included in this is the Asian or ETA 7750, it's a unidirectional model." And my question fellows is: Are the A7750s wound clockwise or counterclockwise (CW or CCW)?? If for example they are wound CW then should someone also adjust his watch winder to turn the watch CW or in alternate directions (both CW and CCW) as it has nothing to do with the watch's winding direction? The question may look easy to answer but take some seconds and think about it.....and let me know P.S.: I bought for my BCE a watch winder from Eilux the EW 1388 ST model which is relatively cheap (approximately 100 euro) and it works like a charm....The watch is on the winder for 3 full days and has a real fun Stays wound and ready to wear! It was something that i had a great problem with as i was forced to hand wind the watch each time it ran out of energy something that according to The Zigmeister will eventually lead to movement excessive wear & tear!
