  2. Posting this because its funny as hell Saw it on a watch blog today The Greatest Rolex Story You'll Ever Hear Dr. Jim Norman, driver in the Napleton Racing #16 Porsche Cayman team that just won class GX of the 2013 Rolex 24, has the funniest Rolex story you'll ever hear! In his own words -- FUNNY STORY! ... Today I take my new Rolex to the jeweler right down the street from my house in Tampa to get a link taken out so it fits me better (for those of you who don't know, the winning drivers of the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona are presented with a new Rolex timepiece in Victory Lane). The jeweler re-sizes it for me and charges me $8. I say "Wow, 8 bucks, that's not very much". The manager lady says, "well, if it were a REAL Rolex we would charge you more!". I chuckle and say "it IS a real Rolex". She says, "Nope it is not...We know Rolex watches and this is definitely a fake." My retort, "well, I guess you don't know these as well as you think!". Hearing this, the Jeweler comes out from behind his little glass window from where he is working on a frail, blue-haired lady's broach while wearing some very dorky-looking magnifying glasses and says, "I'll bet you bought that watch in New York". He puts both hands in his back pockets and sticks out his skinny "bird" chest in an attempt to be strong and assertive. "Nope" I say, "I haven't been to NYC in some time". He quickly replies, "I'll bet you $1000 you didn't buy that from a real Rolex dealer". I say, I won't take that bet, because you are right, I didn't buy this from a Rolex dealer". "AH HA!" he exclaims, "it IS a fake!! Where did you get it??" "I got it in Daytona this past Sunday". "HA! I am right!" he shouts, almost loud enough to break some of the crystal elephants assembled as a group on one of the overhead glass shelves. "I know all the Rolex dealers in Daytona, and none of them is open on Sundays!" He is quite pleased with himself and turns to strut back to his window-enclosed, nick-knack cluttered cubby. "Maybe I didn't get it from a dealer" I state smugly. He turns and says, "well then tell me, who DID you get this FAKE Rolex from?" "Well, I stated calmly and coolly, I was presented this beautiful timepiece from the President and CEO of Rolex Watches while standing on the podium at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona". "OH, Sure!" he says, "and I'm Santa Claus!!". And back into his cubby he went, oblivious to the REAL world around him. He doesn't get it... The world is passing him by and he isn't even aware that it is happening. You gotta love life and embrace life... even if it means you have to wear a fake Rolex.

  8. Very nice work, ww! Shame about the Zodiac Aerospace, but it's a movement that's stymied even the most clever members of the rep community. And pity those of us who haven't got a GMT at all!

  9. Good morning, My 16750 build is finally complete and home to be enjoyed. I chose the 16750 over the 1675 simply because I had access to a well priced mint condition genuine dial and that is what really started this project and a vintage Pepsi has always been one of my grail pieces. Out of all the watches I have owned over the years, I have never had a GMT. I want to thank many of the members who provided help on this project. Mostly I need to thank Matt (mymanmatt) for making this happen as I am sure there are not many people who could have managed this build. Matt is an amazing watch smith. Honestly most experienced members told me not to try it.....And now I know why, this build had many obstacles and was a true test of patience and cost. Once you get started on one of these builds it is hard to abandon it and even though I did a project budget and had already sourced most of the parts, I went way over......as most of you know this is one of the most difficult builds to do because of the case and there are not really any good aftermarket case options. I did much research on this across many forums. Even the high end aftermarket cases are not very gen like. Matt compared a well known $1500 1675 aftermarket case to a gen and it was not even close and would have needed modification on top of the $1500 cost; therefore, I chose a cartel case and sent it to Rolex Addict in France to modify the crown guards and thin the lugs. First 2 obstacles came from the donor rep 1675 watch which was suppose to have a Swiss ETA, but ended having a clone. Next obstacle was when disassembled the donor case was a 1680 dressed like a 1675. RA worked his magic on the case and while the case is still not perfect to gen, it is much better than it was stock. At some point I will find a fairly priced gen case set and use it. Next obstacle was to find a decent bezel assembly that looked good but also would fit and rotate. Seen too many nice looking franken GMT's with glued on bezels and we did not want that. Matt found a nice aftermarket bezel with good looking teeth that fit with everything. Matt disassembled and assembled this watch 3 times. First he got everything right before we sent the case to RA, then when the case came back he reassembled it but RA had removed some metal from the rehaut/case wall and we had a crystal and bezel assy issue. Matt figured out a way to solve this issue and reassembled the watch again and then it was ready to come home. Build Specs: Cartel donor 1675 with ETA clone movement. Movement runs good and everything works as it should. GMT hand functions correctly. Case modified by Rolex Addict Used the hands from the Cartel donor and lumed by Cwazy. Genuine dial lume work done by Cwazy1 from RWI. Cwazy's work is excellent, great comms and quick turnaround. Will use him again. Some of the best lume work I have seen. Genuine brand new insert Genuine crystal Genuine crown Genuine Jubilee, got lucky on this. The bracelet is perfect for this vintage watch-- just enough wear but not too much stretch. End links fit nicely--thanks to Matt:) Cannot thank Matt enough. He put a lot of time into this project and I am very happy with the results. I learned much doing this project which will help me in future builds. Some pictures from my iPhone: FYI, the gap in the in the cg's looks much tighter and better in real life than in the macro close ups. Hope you like her And of course a complimentary wristie

  10. Here's what the rep looks like. http://www.pure-time.com/product/portuguese-automatic-ss-black-dial/ http://www.pure-time.com/product/portuguese-automatic-ss-white-dial/ As you can see, the subdials are too close to the center, and the date is sunken. The pictures from Ali Express are photoshopped pictures of a gen.

  11. Hi, don´t know about the pr one but the Portuguese Fa. Jones goes for $118-$128 + shipping from the TD´s, nice, thin, reliable, handwound, no date and a fine watch, there are different versions regarding the onion crown and metal screws instead of blue on the movement- the pictured one is from Supermirrors

  12. Both are pieced together, the second hand from 2 other 'regular' hands. The hour hand was made using a rep Rolex 'maxi' hand pieced to a miscellaneous ETA sized 'base'. Both finished by very gently sanding using 1500 grit paper.

  13. Hopefully Sellita will produce a replacement to the 2893-2. I would like to see a robust purpose made Swiss GMT movement available for rep GMT's. I have a Sellita movement in my Ocean7 LM7 and it has been flawless for around 2 years now.
