  1. If it wasn't for poor quality control of the A7750's, I wouldn't have nearly as many watches (I often purchase broken watches and fix them). So, for me, the weaknesses in the A7750's allow me to indulge in my hobby inexpensively. Most of the issues I've seen are related to poor assembly techniques. For the most part, I'd say that the design is acceptable. They just don't always put them together correctly. I have around 10 watches with A7750's and they're all running great. Of course I've had to work on most of them to get them to this point (that's part of the fun). Having said this, I love those darn DG4813's. They don't have chronos, but they're cheap and the ones I have are incredibly accurate.
  2. And a Chronomat B01 for $193...not bad at all! http://asian7750.com/cn/product_show.asp?P_id=1848&ti=
  3. I'm going to continue trying to find a coating that's closer to gen. I think I figured out an inexpensive way to fixture the crystals to eliminate the masked area. I, eventually, want to have at least 3 of my crystals coated.
  4. The cost for this particular coating (in lots of 10 crystals) is less than $20. Before I have any more of my crystals coated, I want to investigate different color options and different fixturing options (to eliminate the masked area). BTW, I'm not making this a business (I don't want to compete with Chief...as if I could). I just want to have some of my crystals coated.
  5. I've been able to successfully strip AR coating from Sapphire crystals using a rotary tool (Dremel tool) with the green polishing compound that came with my Dremel tool.
  6. Since Chief isn't doing another run until the fall, I started looking into other AR coating services. I found a place that was kind enough to do a sample for me (see attached images). It's double sided AR and looks a lot like the AR on the V3 SuperAvenger. I'm not sure how it compares to Chief's (I don't have any of his crystals to use as a comparison), but it's inexpensive and fast (less than 10 days). In addition, it meets Military standards for durability so it won't scratch easily. This particular coating is specifically made to minimize reflected light (which it does), however, the color is slightly different than the gen. The first photo is a comparison the the V3 SA. The other pictures are compared to the Gen. The newly coated crystal is on the left in all pictures. What do you think?
  7. It almost seems like a crap shoot. I have 2 different V2 BCE's. One has great AR, the other has a really blue tint (way too blue). I removed the exterior AR, but then it reflected too much (it's been sent it in to be re-coated...I'll let you know how that works out). I wish it was easier to remove the crystals from SA's, Skylands and SeaWolfs. I'd love to re-coat the crystals (although the SA AR is pretty darn good!).
  8. I was going to recommend Cousins UK, but I can no longer find the Asian 7750 on their website...strange. ...found it. For the A7750, it's part number CH3LZF2M For the A7753, it's part number CH3LZF1M
  9. Cool wedding, congratulations!!...but what I really want to know is what watch did you wear??
  10. I searched the Cousins UK website and it looks like a Chinese CH8824M: http://www.cousinsuk.com/PDF/categories/4_Page%20123%20to%20124.pdf I'm not sure what the ETA equivalent is. Hope this helps.
  11. He was angry that I asked for pictures, which he felt was an attack on his integrity. He finally got really mad when I mentioned his 'questionable sale' on RepGeek (turns out he's a member there... with 23 posts) and finally provided pictures.
  12. There's a Super Avenger dial for sale on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130409263435&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT The photos aren't clear enough for me to tell if it's gen or rep. I requested additional photos, but the seller won't supply any because he says "I already have it all packed up". I asked him to unpack it and he got mad that I was questioning his integrity. It may be genuine, but there's "no return" policy, so be careful if you intend to bid on this item.
  13. I love BCE's (although I'm wearing my Blackbird right now...which is awesome!). I have 3 rep BCE's and 1 gen. Here's a picture of my favorite BCE rep. It's a V2 which has had the following modifications: - An updated datewheel (custom made by me: http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=108956) - Relumed (it's even brighter than the Gen: http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=109856) - Black Rehaut (instead of the stock, incorrect, grey one). It cost me a black dial, but it made me happy.
  14. I know what you said about not wanting to deal with haveing a datewheel installed, but it's a shame to have a nice dial like that with the generic datewheel. If you decide to replace the datewheel...My link
  15. An AD told me that the 'Black Eye Blue' version was special order only, so I haven't seen one in person. Has anyone found a rep of that? I can't seem to find one.
  16. If you want a new one: Ajoesmith (on RepGeek) used to have some available. You can also pick them up from Cousins UK for around $134 + shipping (part number CH3LZF2M)
  17. I was under the naive understanding that people honored their commitments on eBay, no matter how crazy the sell price. So, if I sell something on eBay and I don't think it went for a high enough price, I can just tell the buyer that I don't want to sell it!? I HATE that you should have to walk away from this!!
  18. Love the blue dial. I don't like quartz either, but that's a beautiful watch!
  19. I hate hearing this kind of thing. I really appreciate the technical expertise you (The Zigmeister) and others provide to this forum. I've learned so much about watch repair by reading the various posts. I wish there was a better way to 'screen' the troublemakers so that the long time members wouldn't leave.
  20. I always thought that the dials of the Swiss and Asian Steelfish were the same diameter, now I'm not so sure. If anyone has a dial from a 21J Steelfish that they could measure, I would appreciate it. Also, I've heard that there used to be a smaller version of the Steelfish (42mm). Does anyone know if that's still available?
  21. It's my understanding that Dial diameter is not the same for the various Steelfish. I've recently read that the 21J dials are slightly smaller than the Swiss versions. Can someone please measure the dial on a 21J Steelfish and tell me what it is (the outside dial diameter)? For reference, I've been told that the Swiss dials are 30.9mm. Thanks in advance.
  22. I wish I could tell by seeing the front of the watch, but I (personally) would need to see pictures of the movement.
  23. Caster Oil is used often inside enclosures that are used for undersea use. Fluorinert is also used, but it's more expensive and harder to get. It would be fun to try it on a quartz watch.
