  1. i think there's varying degrees of quality form the same manufacture in different locations. such as how Panasonic, an awesome brand, also has "Quasar" which are lower priced products of similar function. the other thing to note is ETAs design patent on their movements is very old and is now public domain. with them haulting production of ebauches to third parties, other companies have quite literally copied their movement designs and produced them with either excellent quality or sub standard materials in order to sell to the demand ETA has now created. I have a movement stamped ETA , but NOT swiss stamped on he rotor. Could this have come from their factory in the Philipines? I'll never really know. In our hobby some basic repairs and mods are a good thing to grasp a comprehension of, cause more often than not you'll find yourself in your current situation where you want something done, but cant find many people to work on it.
  2. I hear it's a piece of crap movie and just doesnt make sense. I'm STILL going to see it tho, having seen every Bond movie ever. I'm NOT a fan of the shameless product placement throughout these new movies. still the WORST Bond movie has to be Live and Let Die. BEST song tho...
  3. i just noticed your rep doesnt have the accent OVER the'E'. i thought yours was eurotimes same as ruby perhaps whos version is this (originally)?
  4. im gonna stick with clarks and sand my insert i think, i mean the MBW one that came with it fit, and it was recessed. so i'll match its thicknesses with calipers. a lot of work?...YES.
  5. NICE! details i've never seen in dealer pics before. is this the 42mm the same one ruby offers and most correct version? just gotta fix the 6 oclock register
  6. never had this problem, IF ANYTHING , I leave sweaty marks on the watch
  7. if the price is too good to be true, i guess it REALLY is. gen $150 this one $75, too bad it was advertised as genuine otherwise i would of paid $90 locally for a clone and gotten it the same day. thanks for the pic KBH
  8. the 2836 predates the 2836-2 movement design. 2836-2 was its successor in the early 80s. funny you'd see it used here. so it's either a refurb'd base OR a clone that has a "typo"...sort of.
  9. not bad, thanks for sharing of course the crystal crown etch and rehaut engraving has the typical problems (almost ruins it). the "milgauss" font appears a little thicker than the gen and the green crystal looks a slightly different green. However the crystal color may just be the in the photo and lighting/white balance related. is that a gen eta it looks a little odd? good stuff tho
  10. thanks for your guidance. got the overlay unsticked from the old datewheel insert with a razor nicely. now all i have to do is glue tht sucker over top of the eta date insert. any suggestions on what glue to use, the best way to cut the dial feet (im thinking a metal file) and what glue to use on the dial with spacer ring?
  11. if the date sits low behind the dial then the overlay wasnt aligned properly perhaps. if its the actual date mag glass then it wasnt aligned properly. a clarks should be percision aligned.
  12. i say give it a try. this movement actually looks like the eta i bought off ebay excepted not branded, and i paid $75. where are buying these from?
  13. overlay? we're talking peel and stick? does the noob dial feet fit the 2836 with out modification? thanks guys
  14. the finish on the mvoements he sells including the engravings are pretty good. i know eta DOES have a plant in the far east, but i think eta and eta clone companies have become interchangeable with some people and they may think they are all the same thing. this ebay seller has 100% feedback and im sure at least one hardcore watch builder has bought one of thse from him by now and would have left a negative if it wasnt genuine. sellita and even seagul has copied the 2836, except they call it by their own brand name since etas design patent has expired. the seagul and sellita are close in price to the genuine swiss so maybe this example is a counterfiet. what i think is that this movement is a genuine eta from their asian factory, may get used in such brands as SANDOZ. i cant find any information on the internet about an eta with a ph stamping. but im almost positive they have a factory in the philippines. the lack of 25jewel stamping on the rotor IS puzzling tho. if it were a clone why goto the trouble of replicating poorly when even a fake engraving would be easy and make it authentic. i might actually email eta on this cause i am curious. but as long as it runs for that price it isnt bad, the finish and craftsmanship on mine is pretty good looking.
  15. hi guys, im looking for some direction: in transplanting a datewheel from an asian 2813 (correct sub font) to an eta 2836 with stock eta datewheel. this is my understanding which i learned from a 2892 diagram. i must remove the eta date disc by removing the date jumper plate, and the additional indicator plate in order to remove the whole date disc, then glue the 2813 one over top. i assume the 2813 doesnt just drop in place of the 2836 datewheel replacing it. is there any need to sand the 2813 disc or can i just (glue)sandwhich it on top of the 2836 no problem? what else do i need to know. thanks
  16. rehaut depth can not really be fixed. sanding may be able to fix some issues, but you can not add depth where none existed before. if you buy a wm9, trusty, or Euro you shouldnt have to worry. i have the noobmariner which is pretty shallow depth but its still a helluva watch! next to a gen its obvious it's too shallow. but honestly 9.5 out of 10 people wont know otherwise, especially on your wrist. anything coming from BK would be something to get excited about. but undoubtedly have a waiting list. i am looking forward to a wm9/bk sub. if this is indeed factual(?)
  17. depends how much you want the $$. omega speedmaster is a nice watch to hold on to as far as legend, aesthetics, and quality go. i probably wouldnt sell it unless i really disliked it for whatever reason
  18. probably just over $1,000US ive seen pros go for about $1800
  19. no worries! there was a point in time when i didnt know that either welcome to the board, and congrats on making an excellent sub purchase
  20. since ETAs patent expired on their 28xx movements many companies like sellita have sprung up and copied their design exactly. even seagull has 2836 movements. only difference i can note is the quality of material used, but the design *should* be exactly the same and oem eta parts should fit in theory
