I have sourced a gen crystal and insert for a 16610.
What would be the best watch to get to create an accurate sub?
Bk's higher cost and painful waiting time versus the cheaper TC but still await a reply to my pm yet.
Can anyone advise which way to go?
Regards
Matt
Well this is a great review, its inspired me to put my franken UPO on hold a little while now.
Instead ive sourced a gen crystal and bezel insert and am patiently awaiting a reply from TC!
Does TC provide a gasket that will accept gen crystal or should i get one from cousins to be sure.
Best regards
Matt
Ok, here's my Franken po.
This time, went for a gen dial, hands, dw, crown/tube, he valve and rubber strap.
Considering bezel and crystal at some point but for the cost I think I'll grab a bk sub as an extra piece.
He valve placement was perfect by the way. My modder did a great job of working the case to fit the gen valve.
Really informative review, explains in a nutshell so many frequently asked questions about this rep. Thanks for taking the time to write this all up in one go. Bravo.
Mods; sticky?
I wouldn't worry about the dust, but the bezel pearl is off centre, to be fair most of them are. Its worth asking to look at another if this will bother you. I can't see anything else wrong to my eyes. Good luck.
I thought I'd take the opportunity to spruce up the bracelet too.
Can hardly believe this is an 11 year old bracelet!
Did it myself using Sellotape, cape cod cloth and an abrasive block of garryflex.
Can't wait to put it all back together.
I would keep it if you're going for orange numbers, that way for the cost of a change or a tool you can have a whole new look for your po every few months.
No im afraid I don't have tools to get the old bezel off, I've had a tentative try with a knife but it won't budge and I don't want to damage the case so off to a watchmakers tomorrow.
It's a shame about your bezel, it's the black I'm after too as my po has white numbers.
I have a similar project on the go, 42mm po, gen dial, hands, crown, tube, he valve and date wheel. Basically all it needs is a gen crystal and bezel and it's indistinguishable from a gen when on the wrist. I have to say ill try it without bezel and crystal but I know it will simply bug me knowing it doesn't look just quite perfect! Damn this hobby.
I may try a bk tw sub next, gen insert and crown and call it a day.
