  1. This is the one movement I've had apart, cleaned and put back together. And, it is also the movement I've had trouble with as far as winding, for some of these when I hand wind there are a few slips, where it seems to go back as I hand wind. I've had this trouble with gens and reps. Is there one cause to this or many?
  2. am I the only freak that actually enjoys winding watches? I try to rotate my manual winds so I have at least a few per day to wind. I'm not sure what it is but once a day would be fine with me. Also, after hearing how reliable this movement is,,,it definately is on my list in one form or another.
  3. Here is an update. I let the watch go till it stopped, actually everything is working perfectly as far as the quickset date and keeping time goes. Then I SLOWLY went about handwinding it. After only two slow turns I head the click sound again, so could the clutch release be set too loose? I guess this turned into one of those mysteries I needed to figure out, the watch is working perfectly so I guess it is best left alone but just one of those things that bugs me. thanks again for your help....
  4. I can tell you two reps that ultimately resulted in not buying the gens...not because the rep was so great I didn't need the gen (the UPO and SOSF) but more that I just didn't care for the style which I got to try out on the reps. I was very close to picking up the gen PO, but after wearing the rep,,,I can't say why, but the way it fit on the wrist just didn't do it for me. And after just getting the SOSF,,,I mean, it is a great quality rep as far as the case goes,,,great AR,,but just not a style I like. And,,,I don't think I would have come to this conclusion at the AD,,,I mean, I had to have it on for a while before I really got a feel for it. So, I saved some money on two gens by trying out the high end reps, which I think had to be high end or I wouldn't have really gotten a feel for each.
  5. I totally understand,,,but thanks for your help! the data analysis is complete,,,just finishing up on the writing..
  6. As far as the second study is concerned,,,this is a work still in progress. I know it is moving at a slow rate, but it is moving. There are some interesting things going on, sorry this has taking longer than expected but science isn't an exact science.
  7. I should know better! But old habits are hard to break...now the question if this is a gen Swiss ETA,,it did have the stamp, but with all the decoration,,,wouldn't a swiss ETA 2824 with this level of decoration alone cost around 200 or more? This is from the SFSO with the ETA movement.
  8. This does have the ETA stamp,,,I saw it but didn't take a picture of it. It is the ETA version with the great AR and everything else.
  9. As always,,,thanks for the fast advice The Zigmeister,,,,so, perhaps this is why after overnight, I could go back and the date wheel worked again? Does this make sense as far as testing this? What if I let it go for two days without movement or winding? If I then slowly handwind it, it shouldn't make that sound anymore, right? Trust me,,,give me the 6497/8 any day, I've had more problems with rotors and winding gears,,,,
  10. This is really strange,,,I have a 2824 based watch and when you pull the crown out to wind it,,,about every 8th turn it will sound just like the date wheel is advancing, that sort of sliding then clicking sound, but it isn't. At first, I had some trouble with the quick set date, couldn't really get it to engage well and turn the days without lots of effort, it would make a different sort of clicking sounds and every so often advance the date but this morning the click is still there but quickset date is working find. Here's a picture,,,,not that it will help much but I took it anyway.
  11. Here are a few very quick pics........... I couldn't help but to open it up and check,,,the o-ring was greased and back was on tight.
  12. Congrats,,,,there is a comercial here in the US,,,I forgot what it is selling but it had a great phrase,,,,"a baby changes everything"........there is a lot of truth in that one....enjoy.
  13. Got the blue one on the way,,,,,any day now. Yes,,,I can't recall exactly, but shipping is about that much more. I thought it might come today,,,,but just bills.....
  14. I have the "airforce orange" coming in the mail tomorrow......I'm very tempted to drop in my hand engraved movement......
  15. nice pics,,,,,I had the gold pilot and while it was a very nice watch for the money I just couldn't do gold, even with a brushed finish. This look really nice and I can't think of anything that can compete for the money. I ordered the airforce orange last week, but it was a close call,,,,,I almost ordered this.
  16. Never, never tight....always loose. In fact, this reminded me of buying my pam at the AD and technically the strandard strap did fit,,,,but I was like,,,I don't wear it like this and I actually got a look like "you are wearing it wrong" Oh well,,,,low and loose for me...
  17. 350 sounds too expensive,,,is this for a simple undecorated movement?
  18. I've heard most arguments against the "bike solution" from my wife as I've talked about this for years and she always gets really annoyed. I mean, I work with some people who are so obese they can
  19. In total seriousness, I think this is really it. One of my goals was to never need a car for work and just bike back and forth. Now, due to uncontrollable forces, I drive almost 2 and a half hours a day just getting from A to B and back to A. Think about us all taking a bike or walking to work, no polution, better health, but no oil profits, no new car sales...hopefully someday.
  20. I read your post this morning, and I
  21. Nice Pictures,,,I had that Invicta a while.....I really liked it but man, it is really large watch. But it has a great movement, so probably worth it. I've kept an eye out for it on the used market. I also put an older vintage strap on it but wasn't as thick as yours..looks great.
  22. I've been into watches for years now and consider myself a movement first person...the dial, hands, everything else comes in second. And I've never really cared about the time as long as it is within some reasonable range, say a 30-60 seconds a day. However, the thing about this hobby is that every so often something changes and becomes a new obsession. Who knows,,,perhaps timing is sometime in my future.
  23. Here is the half joking problem as I see it. How do you know when you like a watch? I mean, what exactly happens when you really like one compared to when you don't??? It comes down to a nervous system response, elevated heart rate, a slight degree of perspiration and all kinds of things that are in response to being aroused. Since this nervous system response is pretty much the same if you are excited, or mad or happy, it comes down to the brain making an interpretation, if your brain explores the environment and decides you must be happy,,,you will be happy. However, sometimes things get mixed up and mistakes can be made. If you are looking at some arousing pictures and then get on a flight, you might think your heart is pounding because you
  24. true,,,,but I was thinking of something less obvious. Actually,,,you shouldn't even think about porn.......
  25. Well,,,there are good psychological and economic reasons one shouldn
