Why are there no 6497/8 based watches with a bezel that rotates?
chris5264 replied to chris5264's topic in General Discussion
I bet that is it...generally handwinds make up a small percentage of watches,,,my guess is 90% quartz, 8% autos and 2% handwind, so with that very limited number being made, there are few options with them. interesting.... -

Not that I dive too much, but I would think this would be an advantage for a manual wind since you know when it is fully wound compared to an automatic without a power reserve which you really have no idea. I'm really starting to think this is just a design issue. Seems like this could work and perhaps be something new, I'm going to email a few watch companies today and see what they say. -

I agree, I can't see how the shock from a bezel would really be a problem for the movement, also, if it was you could also do a smooth bezel. However, as far as the size, there are 40 mm watches using the 6497, so you should be able to make one that is 42 with the bezel. If this really is just a design issue, I bet if some company made one, it would at least be something new........ -
This is kind of frustrating, the 6497/8 is my favorite movement to base a watch on, but I also like the idea of a rotating bezel to keep track of time intervals. I found two watches using the Unitas (ETA) that use inner rotating bezels (Swiss army air boss mach 4 and a Riedenschild ) but none with external. My only guess is that with a larger balance wheel there could be problems with the spring getting tangled since as the bezel clicks it could shock the movement. However, this is all I could come up with. If this is just a design issue, I wish someone would come up with one of these.

on its way to another,,,but I thought this was a decent picture

tourby celestial project - one of the most sensational watch

Congratulations,,,,,,,,,this will be one of those -
I'm going to post some pictures soon on this, I have one from Silix. Probably another "super rep" as far as over quality. Decent AR (not like the SFSO but still good), nice overall case quality and with a 7750 without the chrono, shouldn't be any real problems with the movement. Also, feels really good to wear, something about the way the rubber strap fits on the wrist. I'll have some pics soon, looks much better in person than as advertised.

Hey 2005SUB,,,,that picture of the sub on the strings is very cool!

Something different for me...

There actually are a few times I prefer reps to gens. 1) When I hit or bump my watch into a wall 2) when my daughter decides to see how far she can pitch one of my watches 3) when a kid throws up on you 4) When I

Thanks,,I think I'll try some standard white. I'll post some pictures later this week. I was going for something like the Bell and Ross phantom,,,,but in the end guess I need some contrast.

I have the same ibanez without the inlays, also, that jackson looks great,,,thanks,,,I may look into ordering one of these,,I mean, If I can take a watch apart I should be able to set up a van halen rep,,,byw,,,,,this totally reminded me of some point in the 80s when I took different colored tape and made my guitar look like eddie's -
Unitas hands interchangeable with Molnija

If my memory is correct, I'm pretty sure the hand sizes are different. Also, the movements themselves are different sizes, so it isn't always possible to change movements since they may not fit the case. -
Swiss Panerai PAM 111H starting to run too fast!
chris5264 replied to fj0's topic in The Panerai Area
This has happened a few times to me even with a few gens using this movement, if you are lucky you may not need to open the case, I would hold it with the movement facing you and give a few taps on the back of the case around at the top (12), This has worked for me at least a few times. The tap doesn't even have to be very hard. -
Where's the best place to buy out-of-box PAM 111H?

I'm impressed with Angus's rep, really the only missing thing is the lum, I don't know....Go with Angus and get everything but lum, Go with Davidsen, get great lum but dial isn't correct and crown is too small. I used to really like the 111, but after seeing so many silly little problems with varous reps the whole thing has turned me off and to be honest I would rather put the money into a gen, but I understand that's just my take on things. -
As far as reps go,,,definately. Even trying out the super reps was disappointing because what is being replicated is the looks not the overall quality (IMHO). Of the three super reps, I had problems with two, not great odds and enough to turn me off. I actually have the eta SFSO coming soon and if I miss it and it sits at the post office a week, I really don

He has been around for a while,,,a great source for gen croc straps,,,I think they go for around 35 (usd) and are great quality for the money.

Any chance of putting the number on the dial? I've seen versions where this can be done and not look cheap. -

Is there any way to test this out and see what a 44mm with 24 mm lugs would look like? It is an interesting idea but until it's actually in your hands,,,it might be hard to know. Another really important variable is the height. I had the first run of the Azimuth 47 mm and also the older 47 mm steinhart pilot and both were wide but not much height, maybe 10 at most so even if it was a big watch it was slim. A thicker 44mm (say 12mm in height) with 24mm lugs might actually look very unique but I would want to test it out with a prototype first. I agree with Golfman, it might start looking like a panerai and loose the classic pilots look. On the other hand, it could look like a totally unique pilot watch which others might start to copy. Also, as far as the height goes, the curvature of the lugs can influence what it looks like,,,I've seen some really thick watches but the lugs put the strap up high so it didn't look thick. Have you every seen watches with two sets of lug holes drilled, so you could use either a 22mm or a 24? The lugs curve out a little so the 24mm fits at the very end while the 22mm is closer to the case. I think Hamilton or swiss army uses this,,seems like an interesting idea, but never got to personally try it out. Good luck on the project,,,can't wait to see what you come up with. -
Gauging interest on Genuine Swiss 6497-2 highbeat mvmt
chris5264 replied to kye_lin's topic in The Panerai Area
I don't see the stamp either and wasn't this bridge configuation something unique to panerai? I mean, besides the replica movements, did eta ever sell these? Anyway, you can actually get a Swiss made watch with a decorated 6497/8 for this price. Perhaps not the highbeat, but is there really such a price difference? Sorry, but IMO, this seems too high a price for this movement, and it needs to be serviced. -
oh well,,,,,thanks for your time. If I can't remember the mittens , I wounder if I could just remove the whole autowinding bridge from all my autos and turn them into mechanicals?

Seems like it will run at least 24 hours, and after being on the winder still going strong. However, the dealer will do a return, so I think I'll trade the mystery for a new one. However, I admit, I'm have tempted to just open this up and see what is going on. I swear the sound is exactly like the date changing.
