Not sure I will ever go for the gen,,,but this will do for a while....just in today -
Nice watch. The case on that is really nice for the money. I picked up the orange one. I've been very hapy with it.

Is this a gen or rep? eBayer please verify
chris5264 replied to vootzilla's topic in The Panerai Area
maybe you get all three! this is funny and a good test of perception. When I started on the pam stuff, even a cheap rep looked the same as a gen. To the seller these all look the same.... -
All I can say is,,,been there....don't worry,,,there is nothing that can't be fixed. In fact, I have this exact movement but the balance is crap,,,everything else is good,,so if you need a part no problem. Also,,,pm me,,I might have a seconds hand with a long stem,,,so you can put that on. As far as those movement holders,,,well,,,they can be difficult...sometimes I even enjoy seeing a plastic movement holder...lol

I've always had a thing for a skeletonized pam, I had one of these cases a year or so ago and made one with a very basic 6497,,,now I would drop in a high quality skeletonized movement with blued hands. Can't get more special than that,,,very few around right now.

Nice find,,,I've seen that brand and was interested. How is the quality on the screw down crown and the lug screws?

Nice!!! At some point I might pick up a gen vintage FF,,,,there would definately be a market for a rep, I can't figure out why it isn't easily available. The only version I know of is the homage watches. -
the all time best watch joke,,,,,even normal people think this one is funny........

Thanks,,you can search and find MKii,,,based in the US,,I picked this up for 400 (usd) used. Very good lum,,,200 m WR and nice smooth bezel.

I had the same reaction to the Benrus type 1 as I did to the panerai luminor and the Seiko 6105, just some thing about the simplicity of the dial and the history. I considered getting a gen type 1, but ended up going with the MKii homage called the blackwater. The lugs are 20 and the case is about a 42 but the way it sits on the wrist is so perfect,,,it may be the most comfortable watch I've ever had on. Some of this may be due to the nature rubber strap which is soft and conforms to the wrist. I know a quartz or 38mm would perhaps even be more comfortable,,,but I just can't do that...

Just got this back,,,had the case bead blasted and put in a 2x ar crystal from k2222,,,

That is really really bad,,,,,,,,one of the worst perhaps...How can so much go wrong on a watch?

One of my favorite diver watches,
-
Can't really wind it too far,,,unless you broke the stem, which is possible. Does the stem seem to move freely now? If you unscrew the two screws holding the crown guard can you pull it out? There are times when you get a defective stem and it breaks when winding. Just need a new stem and need to cut it to the right length which can be easy or difficult depending on how much you've worked on watches or know the right person that can fix it for you.

Look at the movement at an angle,,,if the pin isn't extending up,,,you are fine to put a base dial on. I think you are correct, some of the models use a seconds hand that is very long although I think it is more correct to have the longer version of the 4th wheel (the one that makes the seconds hand turn).

I have the one on the left,,,,,,,this is a very nice watch if you like the style and definately worth the money. The case and bracelet are really nice but very very heavy. I actually can't wear the bracelet and I like heavy watches. Where did you see it at that price? There is also a version with very thick hands, I wouldn't mind picking this up. Here is how much I like these watches,,,I bought one but didn't warm up to it fast so I sold it,,,,then I bought another one since I missed it.

I really like Ti watches too,,a few months ago I could have picked up the SMP Ti used and in good shape for around 700 (usd) and, if you can believe it I passed it up..In looking at rep vs. gens I'm not sure if it's the quality of the Ti or the finish, but there does seem to be a noticle difference in feel between the two.

Roll call.. How many RWG members have a genuine Panerai?
chris5264 replied to V's topic in The Panerai Area
I had two 111s and I sold one to another member,,so he might still have it. Eventually, I will pick up another. I mean, if you are really into the details nothing can replace a gen pam. -
Great picture,,,I'll soon have the exact same color and braclet combo,,,,,which mesh did you go with? Looks very nice!

good news about the bezel,,,as I am sort of a bezel freak....(my Seiko collection did this to me). Are all the lum dots recessed or just some of them? It is hard to tell from the pics. I've got a blue one on the way too,,,maybe two weeks with the new year. Gotta enjoy the wait. -
Full disclosure and accurate descriptions in sales ads.
chris5264 replied to a topic in General Discussion
Things are crazy with watch buying and selling lately....and seems to be on all the forums, at least the ones I'm typically on. Here's my last deal from a person with a reputation on one of the gen forums. I put out an ad that I want to buy a particular watch. I get a reponse from a guy that he has one. He sends me the picture and I pay him. I find out later it's not his watch and he doesn't even have it in hand,,, he is trying to flip it before it was even sent to him. How's that for full disclosure? Watch was supposed to be sent to me last week,,,still no word on it. Here's the problem, I always give a detailed list of the condition of the watch and rate it very conservatively. It makes the watch harder to sell if you are honest and detailed with your description. Who would buy watch if they were told "I don't have it but it should be here soon and after you buy it I'll tell you condition it's in" ? IMO, it's not worth it to sell,,,if you put it away for a while you will probably like it again. and It's not worth buying used unless it's from someone you seriously trust.
