Build a Pressure tester for 30 dollars
chris5264 replied to mucrewbtp's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
This is a very cool idea and I enjoy reading about projects like this,,,but I'm not sure I understand this type of test. If the watch fails then isn't there water inside the case which would need repair? Why not just test it swimming or diving? -
yes,,,kind a silly,,,can you imagine the Hindenburg pilot watch? Why connect things like that to a watch,,,,and design wise,,,didn't make it either,,imo

Enzo's are very nice,,,I had three of the exact same watch (orange dial) as I would sell,, then miss it and buy it back. I like the red too.

just arrived today

Yes,,,I was into huge watches for a while (I even had a 50mm+),,,but after selling off all the 47+ and keeping with 42-44,,,If I put on a fiddy I have to say It would just seem silly. My 41 seamaster seems just right and I just ordered a 39mm Mkii vantage, so 42 is a good size IMO. at one point almost my entire collection was some sort of pam or something similar. Now, not a single pam like watch in the collection.

two tone (blue gold) sub strap suggestions?
chris5264 replied to chris5264's topic in The Rolex Area
How's this? -
I hope the dealer will offer a price adjustment to all of those that didn't open the case back up???

Looking back over the years,,,the majority of reps I've had from the various dealers here were totally unacceptable for the money I spent. The money I spent on reps was by far the biggest personal waste of money ever. And I NEVER seem to learn,,,,after all of this I just spent around 400 on another rep! only to have the bracelet break within an hour of it on the wrist. It literally went flying across the table at lunch. I guess I just like this forum, the people here are very interesting and it's a very good forum even if reps are IMO,,,,a big waste of money (sorry).

Totally agree....

looks like a perfect morning,,,,

Nice RobbieG,,,I'm going with the orange bezel orange numbers,,,,but I like all of them. I ended up finding a great deal with an AD,,,just around 2520 (usd) new with the bracelet, my local AD wanted 3200. I should have it in a few days...so I'll post a few too.
-
I just got this and the bracelet is,,,well,,,trashed. Actually, it was pretty funny. I was at a lunch buffet and reached across the table and the watch went flying. So, on to strap options. I have a blue shark but that didn't work. I think I need a blue croc....Any ideas or pics?

Just got back from the AD,,,spent an hour there,,,actually the salesperson was very cool, an actual watchmaker. The guy had some great watch stories. anyway,,,tried on the 45 and the 42,,,no competition. The 42 is way more balanced, wears better and looks better. In fact the bezel is even more like the vintage 300. I'm still looking for the gen but at least I have no worries about the size now.
-
I've been looking for a 42 gen on the used forums,,,pretty rare,, seems like people agree with you and most seem to prefer the 42. Just a matter of time and the rep will come out.

I added a genuine Omega Planet Ocean to the lineup ...
chris5264 replied to wheaton26's topic in The Omega Area
NICE! there are so many reasons I like this watch,,,a sport watch with a very interesting movement. I still need a co-axial in my collection. The only thing I didn't like is how it feels on the wrist,,,but maybe I just didn't give it enough time...... -
Cool,,,I'm looking forward to seeing it. I was able to talk my daughter into it so I might get a chance to go....how is it for the 4-5 year old crowd?

One of my all time favorite dive watches

All I know, is that there was a little voice inside, that said clearly, "NO" !

Pictorial of ROLEX "Noob GMT 16710", correct hand stack
chris5264 replied to By-Tor's topic in By-Tor's Watch Reviews
This is crazy!! am I turning into a fan of rolex???? First the two tone sub and now this... I need a drink........... -
I'm no rolex expert either,,,and here it really may not matter. I think the decorated movement and open case back are really nice,,,I'm a bit tempted myself but will probably stick with my recent goal of a nice two tone.

Nice review,,,it is funny how a watch can "change",,,even a month ago I would say this watch was "ugly" and then after checking this out and the pics,,,something clicked and now it is "on the list". I'm considering this but also thought about a few homage versions. It would be interesting to see how the Invicta, Debaufre and maybe a few others out there would compare. Update: Ok,,,looks like this is incoming from Eurotimez,,,will post some pics when it gets here.
-
There is a small group on TZ that just wants to argue about anything,,,,I only sell stuff on TZ I don't feel it is friendly enough a place to hang out. I admit I haven't given up on the rolex TT rep yet either,,,,,I keep checking out the pics,,,,it does look good.

1. I am wondering if davidsen's PAM caseback will fit on cartel's PAM watch case? 2. Will the cartel's crown and CG fit on davidsen's watch case? 3. Any own davidsen's single AR crystal. What is hue effect. Is it strong and obvious like double AR on SFSO? 4. Can davidsen's dial fit into cartel's watch case? This is from memory,,,but no,,I don't believe you can switch parts,,I know the dial is different and pretty sure the CG is a different size. The AR is pretty good but not like 2x ar,,,as I recall. However,,it's been at least a years since I did these types of mods.

For me the question is rep vs. homage. For the vintages this is an easy decision since there are not many reps of the omega seamaster 300 or blancpains. However,,,recently I've been into the blue dialed two tone rolex sub,,at least after reading By-Tor's review I was hooked. Now what? I can spend around 400 (usd) on a nice rep or pay the same price for a gen homage (Debaufre makes a nice one)? The homage has the exact look but the movement is definatly Swiss, a warranty, WR to 300 m, great lum and presentation box. The only (at least the only one I can think of) reason to get the rep is to have Rolex on the dial. What I would really like to do is get both and make a direct comparison but right now I'm siding on the homage.

I started out 38-41,,then for years was 44 or larger,,,it got all the way up to 60mm and then it all started to seem silly (maybe I'm just getting old ). In the last few months I've sold all my giant watches and have been more around 42,,,,,and it's funny,,,now my 42mm watches seem large...reminds you how much of the mind is in perception.
