Hai So, as I'm going through my typical Friday afternoon one thing is different, actually, make that several things..Well, for one instead of my usual Panerais I have this thing on my wrist and I'm in love ...but more importantly I've successfully creeped out a bunch of coworkers who like to gawk at others' monitors while wandering aimlessly around the office in hopes of striking up a Friday afternoon conversation or perhaps bother me with their last minute "pressing issues". They don't understand why I'm so amused by AIX shells, sqlwbs and EMs on my screen. For sure they were expecting to see some nudes or youtube to go with my grinning... Reason I'm happy is simple, I made great friends on this and other forums whose company I enjoy immensely, and consider it a privilege to have an open door for advice and friendly banter with them. But what does that have to do with the watch in the hazy picture you may ask? Well this, my friends, is one of several presents I got recently. At one point or another I was talking to Watchmeister about some of my less than stellar experiences with China PT/PC 1665s that I was building up with slightly better rep parts and eventually gave up on improving.. So rather than an understanding "aha, yeah.. umm, well that sucks", W. just went and mailed me his old-case MBW1665 w/ gen T39 superdome, crown/tube and a zig relume, one that's in the pic! Yeah, so my jaw dropped when I got that but wait, not before I get several surprise packages from Ubi with parts that I'm just afraid to touch, some still in blister packs He uses animal stickers for return address on his packages so I got a giraffe and a hippo Man it was all kind of surreal and unexpected, not to mention exciting! But as long as I'm remembering all the awesomeness, I have to mention a small trade with a supremely delightful PeteM, about a month ago when he icluded a very rare and excellent PAM catalogue from Japan together with the crown he was sending.. And this inot all, NakorTheBlue just sent me his Yuki bracelet after I posted asking for info on bracelets. I mean how much luck can srsly one person have? So is this one of those sappy posts...you bet! I want to thank you guys for being awesome, super generous with your time and goodies, and hopefully give a small glimpse to new members and remind some veterans what this scene is all about. Ohh, and I have something special in store for you guys as well Have a great weekend everyone

A year in the making; Project 1665

Simply amazing! Well worth the effort, the wait and the parts hunt, the end result is pure excellence -
Either hike's 49 or a much more expensive MBW PAM48/49.

Here are a few hasty pics of my humble workshop amidst some case work.

Excellent film, I second the recommendation.

I've seen some shocking riot and looting videos before but this is completely out of control. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cbVW_QS2eE&feature=player_embedded

Thanks for a great insight, Rolli Zaponlack is actually a very familiar medium to me since I used it many times for sealing solder-on components on PCBs to protect them from moisture back in the day. Actually, when I ran out and was too lazy to run to the radio store supply I made my own zaponlack by dissolving broken ping pong balls (celluloid) in acetone

Rolli, Do you know the secret ingredients of this varnish or will it sink into oblivion like the varnish of stradivarius violins?

A6497 movements sound loud ... Is it just the movement?
w0lf replied to PeteM's topic in The Panerai Area
I doubt it has anything to do with the H-factory using trumpet mouthpieces for their rehaut-bezel assembly. -
R, finish the 1665 or try some PAMs MBW PAM48 40mm are awesome and very Rolex size. J, what do you think of these: http://littlemachineshop.com/3900 http://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=4100&category=1271799306

Pete, Until us pikeys scrape together the necessary for a proper big boy watch we'll just have to make do with what we have, I'm afraid. You with your poncy 217, and I with a decisively even more poncy 29, carrying our anorak cross until the day we scrape together the necessary... P.S. I just thought of something, were you high-fiving the cat while wearing the 217?
-
Pete, for some reason your post is not about the H-factory 112/176/111M and the v2's of 177... It also seems like you've not tried fitting various straps to those new models while posting a separate thread with multiple photos for each instance you used your screwdriver. And to top it all off, you're not asking us to look at your dealer QC pics. What gives? Seriously, I don't understand your reasons for bring this topic up when it's clearly old news as others have duly noticed, moreover I have no point of reference to discuss this humdrum stuff. The worst part is - there's not nearly enough high-fiving going on to even warrant this post to begin with. It's like I don't know you anymore, m8...

Can't beat the kautschuk of the gen strap, Cats. Some reps are better than others but they're never the real thing.
-
The case blank is stamped from billet and then milled into its final shape. It's not how reps are done, reps are mostly sintered from powdered metal, basically cast or forged.
-
And this is why a gen or jimmy fu case holds up better than any rep case and doesn't strip threads easily, it will chip before it dents - cnc milled from sus 316l vs sintered from sus 304.

Finally someone made a leap of faith Ok so let's get down with the getdown. PreV bases are not H3, they're H1, see service thread on p.com. We have one of three things going on here - the hands are either not set properly, minutes has a tube that's too long or dial is much thicker than should be. Chiman, take her apart, let's see all her components I'm personally interested in more pics of the crystal refraction, case profile with lugs in focus, and another with CG and crown removed to show the tube and its position on the case. Also, the crown construction would be a nice bonus. Constructively speaking about the build there's really not a single element that's been executed appropriately aside from the bezel and since this is already coated the only mods you can do to the case would be to fill the caseback text with black enamel. - DW's general case geometry is either off or the pic is done at a bad angle, lugs seem a bit too low, no continuity with the main pillow curve (see my preV case thread) - The handstack is not PreV as already mentioned - Case has high shoulders and sharp edges characteristic of contemp. cases - Dial is really not PreV, contemporary shaped numbers that were simply widened for the effect and 4liner print has no serifs - Caseback is also contemporary design, preV has no countersunk radius and no SWISS MADE, the watch case was outsourced to a Florentian firm so the closest ever got to Switzerland was when they put an ETA movement in it - OEM case has no strap notch at all - The strap bar screws are blackened with rodiatura method, not PVD - PVD coat does't really look the right shade and case finish underneath seems a bit way too bead-blasted - CG really has too many flaws to list.
