  1. Reading VW's post about those pirhanas who joined the frenzy without cause, I thought I ought to respond to this rejoinder from Mark for the record if nothing else. Well having looked just now, it seems I still have the PM from Mark from 18 months ago. Not good form to share it here though but all I'll say is his response to my offer of help with the stillborn production of one of his DW projects (artwork issue I think - and my GF is a typography-trained graphic designer) was that sending the DW scan to me would be fine..... EXCEPT it cost him money to produce and so he 'required a little "consideration" ' for his troubles. Whilst I will concede my use of the word "demanded" here was not correct on checking the details, I was taken aback by the tone of his response and the suggestion contained therein. I'm glad that happened though as that first impression from direct contact, made my mind up, which clearly spared me a lot of time and grief down the line.
  2. Well no worries for me anyway as the case is just that a case - crystal and movt have been removed - will leave caseback alone as that's supposed to be titanium not tantalum on the gen, and I like the contrast.
  3. Lani, loving your work - that 172 especially looks perfect, exactly what I'm trying to recreate. You have another PM
  4. Mistake??? Just be thankful your GF/wife takes an interest in watches
  5. Interesting, submerged pics would be great Funnily enough a lot of COMEX divers were reluctant to dive with their 5514s (pereption of them being inferior) to the point where they were referred to cynically as "CabinDwellers" I hope you had a Seiko or BR-02 as a backup though. I know you don't rely on it these days with dive computers etc. but "Super" or not, it's still a cheap Asian-produced rep. Next road test - how about one of these?
  6. I'll happily oppose that opinion, borne out of my own extensive dealings with her. Not good form to perpetuate such a negative perception without having direct experience yourself, tsk tsk. You just have to accept that communication is a little less straightforward with her English skills, and sometimes wires do get crossed. I would chase up with a polite email but she will make things right, you can be sure of that.
  7. 'Fraid not. But I can now see why you've gone and bankrupted yourself building a house for those....errr, I mean her and your good self
  8. what's your problem exactly Vic? That it's portrays a Communist revolutionary? Like TMG I also appreciate the irony of such a man looking for all the world like he could be sitting in some high-backed leather chair in some gentlemans' club off St James', smoking a Romeo Y Julieta with a Rolex on his arm I'm sure if you kept your own avatar the same for more than 48 hours, we too could get the chance to irrationally hate them too
  9. You know, I think that's the actual watch that got me interested in the GMT-Master - I must have been 10 or so and can remember that episode of Magnum (one of my favourites - Hawaii, Ferrari, helicopter, crimefighting....not the Dobermanns though ) - his father's wasn't it, died in Korea/Vietnam and Magnum had been given it at his funeral. Great episode pretty much all about the watch - must see about getting hold of that. And look, no Jubilee in sight - just the purists' Oyster!
  10. c.1185 used in modern day Speedy (not most recent though) c.2500b used in Deville (the 2500 in the PO is the c-variant, co-axial tweaked to 25700bph)
  11. You see Che knew the pleasure of sporting a GMT as God intended....on Oyster Talking of which - TMG, time to change the avatar back perhaps? Might cure you of your Jubilee....well "perversion" is the best word I can think of Euno - my condolences on the pointy guy. Shame.
  12. Posted this quick and dirty pic in my review back in August....
  13. Lani, what can I say? Just the sort of advice I was looking for You have PM on its way buddy
  14. fmac - few more details please - it's really the soaking, the oxidisation process that is key to the colour, rather than the post-treatment but still curious. Gun oil? Not from round my parts are ya?
  15. Look I DID warn you about looking in that bathroom mirror Back OT, any help out there?
  16. Sorry, can't get what off her? You saying there is a watch in the picture?
  17. Thanks, but oxidised is not the same as aged, as your bathroom mirror will attest Anyway, this is a PANERAI area, no place for you Bob
  18. Depends on whose 'nipples' we're referring to Exhibit A - the most unbelievably cheesy and abhorrent GMT ever - the Burt Reynolds of vintage Rolex - my god can it get any worse??? Two-tone GMT with Nipple dial with 'root beer' insert on Jubilee (one of Andy's obviously) WARNING - THOSE OF A NERVOUS DISPOSITION SHOULD AVERT THEIR EYES NOW TO AVOI........*AARGH!!!!!! TOO LATE!!!*
  19. Having trouble with my 192 case and getting it oxidised evenly. Bracelet no problem - lovely dark tantalum colour, but just can't get the case right, tried numerous times, numerous recipes, including pre-treatment with acetic acid and soap/water to remove oils, but no dice - VERY frsutrating Can anyone provide any further advice or even offer to do the case for me, for a fee of course?
  20. Ok ok *nag nag* I'll clean it up.... *applies a bit of saliva and Cape Cod* Ta-daaaaa!!!!!
  21. Sarcasm A veritable supermodel by your own 'aged' standards of beauty
  22. I'd guess it's the model that started him off, and off he went from there... If it were me though, I'd find it impossible NOT to diversify even if it meant selling a few Subs off (not like this guy has a funding problem I'm sure but...) - needs another GMT or two, definitely a 1655 without any shadow of a doubt, and perhaps a 5514 or COMEX 1665.
