Christ this place gets more like a plump agony aunt's column day by day.... Yes of course it's fine, wear what you like or want. Be confident. It's more important the strap match your watch (dial specifically) than anything else, belt, shoes etc. But remember the shoes....."never brown in town"

Your Anniv. Speedy has a flat 'sapphire' crystal - gen has a domed acrylic crystal. Ergo, likelihood of you getting a gen crystal to fit gasket on your rep, is therefore extremely low to zero. Save your money.

Yes I did, same as always within 48 hours or so. Mind you it was just a normal standard email though, not some private PM under a cloak of diplomatic immunity Oh dear obviously I'm not important enough, I must lobby through the appropriate channels.... He's fine same as always don't know why people get all flustered when the guy doesn't reply within 30 seconds of sending an email? Honestly, like some of us, J&A have real lives with families and friends, and deserve some time off. You can't expect them to sit around 24/7 waiting for emails and sending constant reassuring emails about shipping nos. etc. If you can't handle that, then just take your business elsewhere. Simple.

Sounds like date change mechanism isn't set/engaging correctly. Two things that keep the DW in place... 1. Two silver disc-shaped tabs arranged equilaterally (relative to the stem) around the outer perimeter of the movement - the DW should just snap in under them slightly. 2. Dial

How does one remove the rotor on an ETA 2892?
docblackrock replied to Rolexman's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Call me pedantic but I'd start with those eight tiny screws on the caseback first -
Firstly, what happened to your six-figure job in London and the Sloane Square pad? Ok then, I have teacher friends and they all say the same things.....I tell them just do your job, you are not personally responsible for the fecklessness of your students. If you want to change thw world go and work for a NGO in Africa or something. They're just first years, probably not that motivated. Anyway why are you carrying the can, they have other tutors and lecturers, right? Regardless I wouldn't worry, just concentrate on your own studies. Let 'em fail. God knows the world doesn't need MORE bean-counters, let alone incompetent ones.

Go on, post a pic, even if only to be childish ("me first!!!!") and cause further wear and tear to Pugs' premolars....*gnnnnnnn....gnnnnnn* No offense taken I can assure you, anyone who gives the Convicts a good beating is alright by me Ken and Offshore might be a bit hacked off with you though Oooh oooh, do I get a gold star? Two if I name-drop anyone famous I've recently had the pleasure of conversing with, right? *sigh* what is the world coming to when a man can't smoke a Romeo Y Julieta or two (ok then, 20 boxes ) in the privacy of one's own home....

Why TTK, who knew that beneath that gruff persona, lay a man....nay a veritably great man of such apoplectic taste. I would but give you two gold stars for effort, but I feel it may be seen as insulting. Ay! Reminds me of my old house master, who on away days with the first XI, would down several large measures of Courvoissier XO 30 (only the best, naturally!) before beating the living daylights out of anyone who dared be lbw'd....even a duck was a less heinous crime. One such new boy who got the stick is now a famous A-list actor...but to me he will always be Jonny Wetpants...an unfortunate moniker I know he secretly laughs at when I shout it as a greeting across the Pimms VIP lounge at SW19 every year......much to the amusement of all and sundry. Oh what a jolly wheeze. So? Where was I? Oh yes, the housemaster....the funny thing was that he had a watchstrap very similar to that adorning your Railmaster, Neil...in fact I could swear it was the same identical strap I saw on the Burgermeister of Liechtenstein who was sitting on the table next to us, during one of our regular visits.....a delightful man of great taste I may add!

Really? Well it's not mine but a TZ Classics source - I remember this being asked before and have the review bookmarked.... (obviously replace the xx's with tt's) hxxp://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=msg&goto=934&rid=17174#msg_934 hxxp://www.chronometrie.com/eta2892/eta289202.html -
Oooh this is getting almost exciting......well, relative to this entire thread of course .......look like we have a 3-horse race. Euno has a tracking no., Lani has delivery confirmation, and somewhere on this side of the Pond, Pugs is grinding his teeth but hoping for a final push on the inside bend..... So who's it gonna be? (slightly sarcastic - I can barely raise an eyebrow over this watch after 10,000 views and >20 pages of click-tease....zzzzz......zzzzzz)

If it's Seagul then it's a clone. Rolexman is talking about a standard ETA 2892. -
How does one remove the rotor on an ETA 2892?
docblackrock replied to Rolexman's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Those three holes do contain three screws, except they are inverted. In terms of assembly, the rotor is actually a more attached part of the auto-winding mechanism than say the rotor on a 2836 or 7750. See pics.... And in situ... So you'll need to disassemble more than you're used to. What are you trying to do anyway? Rotor swap for logo? -
Missing the point I'm afraid. As I said earlier, you think those who have spoken out here LIKE to do this??? Was the last thing any of us wanted, but every other avenue was closed off in the end. Unfortunate and there's no pride here believe me, but sometimes you have to fight fire with fire, and the poor taste and lack of class you speak of barely registers on a level comparable to the tone of many of this member's posts. As for the suggestion of posting more not less to drown out the spam, well easy to say but when senior members say things like "why should I bother spending hours doing up a review/thread/how-to" when almost immediately it is lost amongst the latest "which celebrity's wearing what?" thread". Even posting has become a chore to many, such is the plethora of drivel posted recently.

I'll second that, a calm, reasoned and rational response, like myself putting shared interests aside and seeing the bigger picture. I expected nothing less. God helg!

Whilst we're talking fraudster and braggart.... Let's not forget "Saville (sic) Row" that venerable and musty old tailors' street in good old London Town Or, despite having "doctors up the ying-yang at home" and herself being an ertswhile medical student, still believing it ok to take antibiotics for a Cape Cod-induced skin rash Oh but of course, I forget it has an adjuvant effect....namely to "help her central nervous system fight off food poisoning" - what you mean the immune system right? No? Oh my god, get the Lancet on the phone!!!! The Brazilian World Cup squad links, including private hospitality from a well-known but unnamed player who is a "disgusting person". The Oxbridge education - I know which one she refers to even though she won't divulge for some mad reason (got her into trouble before apparently? ) she gave it away with a faked slip of the tongue (plenty of us about ) - interesting given that she read Nazi-era film. Of course you did! Before or after you were sent down Then there's the fanatical Spurs fan who claims she hates the notorious Stan Collymore from his time playing for the club Oh no that's right isn't it I forgot her explanation..."That's because I always confused him and Chris Armstong! (Thank God depressed Stan the Man never graced our Lillywhite pitch...)". An unfortunate comment comment coming from a Spurs fan about two black players you just can't confuse Oh how I could go on , but I thin Neil has covered much of the the Walter Mitty stuff already.

Some of you need to ask yourself, how you know words have NOT been had in private, NOR hints dropped, etc? Well? You think we're doing this out of some perverse FUN?! Same as now though, she just hurls abuse and sticks her ostrich-like head in the sand. This is an intervention relating to one member's behaviour and the effects it had on others. Interventions by nature need to enforce the reality of the problem on the subject - something I'm sure someone of her experience knows all too well. Her petulance and silence on this subject just further condemns her - god knows if some of the mods, admins and senior members here came to me and said they really didn't like what I was posting, if I didn't realise why I'd be shocked and would want to address any specifics and try to work out a solution. That's what a mature adult would do. A spoiled child, however, just crys foul, sticks their fingers in their ears and runs off to their bedroom to sulk. If she cared about this place as much as she professes, she'd accept that is exactly what she's done. This forum is a community, one she claims to care about deeply, yet the question that's begged is that at what point are the opinions of many senior members here outweighed by the ego of one???
-
*fingers in ears* ynah-ynah.....I can't hear you......if I can't hear you....you don't exist.....arrgh, reality crumbling.......where's my meds?......ohh Mummy..... I bet you'll read it anyway if only to see which of the faithful has rallied to your defence. Talking of which, to those 'faithful' I say this - whatever you think, VB is not all she seems. It took me a while to fully grasp this but so much valued and shared opinion not least evidence, all speaks towards the truth. So with that said, those that wish to look away now, please do so. Same goes for any of you, be it "Southern gentleman", old schoolers, or in fact anyone feels a bit queasy at what I am about to say. And don't bother getting all mock chivalrous - she and I are of very similar backgrounds and age and she says herself....woolly mammoth balls...she is clearly able to stand up for herself even throwing insults unprovoked. Firstly in what capacity do you think it is your god-given right to respect??? Here's a tip that clearly you haven't picked up inhabiting the same world as the rest of us.....respect is a quality bestowed by others, something that needs to be earnt. People 'demanding' respect is akin to those sad [censored] wannabee celebrities who try to queue jump and when knocked back exclaim "...Do you KNOW who I am???". Or maybe you trade on the fact that you should be cut some slack simply because you don't have a Y chromosome? Well up to a point it has worked, and I'm sure you've known that all along. But I'm sorry you've pushed that way beyond any reasonable limit. and any sad sacks who give me crap about insulting "a lady", you seriously need to show Au contraire VB, your own disrespect to Andreww and TT is glaring. You're self-aware enough to recognise who this thread is aimed at, yet like a spoiled little child who's been told off, you hurl personal insults and refuse to acknowledge that perhaps, just perhaps those senior members (way beyond any level of contribution and influence you delude yourself you may have) may have a legitimate concern. But of course you don't, what else should we expect from (and here I go uncharacteristically hurling some home truths) a vainglorious, self-obssessed fantasist, who treats this place like your very own blog (well the most current one at least). You recycle, even plagiarise content, profess expertise without basis, have no qualms about hijacking threads or dragging them off topic with endless rambling Walter Mitty-type posts about the time you had lunch with the Pope or Michael Caine winked at you. Then there's the tasteless references to your family wealth and class, including pretensions to 'old money' (which fall flat when heard by real 'old money' ) - the sort of unpalatable and cringeworthy behaviour shown by a couple of our other female exports to the US - your initials' namesake Victoria Beckham, and Sarah Ferguson, the old Duchess of Pork, sorry 'York'. Frankly it's pathetic and despite your sycophantic fanclub - mainly newcomers who cannot see the 'elephant in the room' (even one with recurrent Cape Cod rash despite my warnings) - there are a LARGE number of veteran and senior members here who all agree you have become a pollutant on this forum. You think not? Ask yourself, where all the contributions have gone lately, the reviews, the helpful responses, the teardowns etc.? Coincidence? I assure you not. And that's the tip of the iceberg - all because the perception is there that any useful content is drowned by your spamming. The Zigmeister is worth a hundred of you, Ubi has gone, Euno is turned off after again taking leave. Even Nanuq isn't as on form and prolific these days. Where will it end? Yeah you keep telling yourself that. However, don't confuse old school politeness with honesty - you don't have any 'real' friends here lately. Your attempts to ingratiate yourself with all and sundry (even a dealer by all accounts) to gain favour and influence are quite transparent - the name 'Jeffrey Archer' springs to mind (not my analogy I admit, merely borrowed with permission). And like poor old Jeffrey, every time someone calls you out on discrepancies or questions you in any way, you throw a strop and run away. Reality check Victoria, you should try it some time. You're right, you shouldn't stand for it. Get up right now, and go and look in your (no doubt, tacky yet expensive gilt-framed) mirror.....ask yourself a question. Why? That's all. Just 'why?' When you joined you were a breath of fresh air, a novice enthusiast with an intelligence that was warmly welcomed by all. Yet now you're seen by many as at best, an annoyance, at worst a plague on the board, perhaps benign but a plague nonetheless. FWIW I subscribe to a theory very much towards the latter. That said I have no problem with your presence here per se.....but not in your current persona. You really need to think about the content and tone of your posts, but I doubt you have such self-control. I'm sure you can guess at my professional opinion as to your personality and the effect it has. So if all that means, I leave here on a more permanent basis than I have done the last week or two, then fine so be it. I have a pleasant and rich life outside of this place, something maybe you should try sometime....no, for real I mean. No doubt I won't be the only one packing my bags either, although it's possible that will satisfy you as some sort of twisted mock victory. Well congratulations if that is so, I hope you and RWG will be very happy together in your cyber-marriage. Hell play your cards right and perhaps you too could become a Mod. Imagine that! *...sigh....* Oh it used to be I assure you. But once again, you presume to judge or make assumptions. There really is little point continuing this. To paraphrase my old man...."...never ever argue with those who have special needs, they'll only drag you into their alternate reality and beat you with experience." Goodbye (VB) and good luck (RWG)! cheers Doc

Dating Advice - I really Screwed up and didn't perform
docblackrock replied to redroom's topic in The looney bin
*tumbleweed rolling* Yes, the recoil will be THAT deafening in silence. Don't. Even. Think. About. It. She laid it on a plate. You declined. She'll be hurt and not a little [censored] off. Trying sarcasm as an American to a Brit in this situation will go down like a bucket of cold sick Look, kudos to you for 'fessing up to such an embarrassment, but you know we've all been there. It's the ones that get away that haunt us most, as you will probably find out in this case (sorry just my opinion). Your only hope of redemption is to be bold, open and honest, grab the bull by the horns (literally) when you next see her. Sure not every girl likes nice guys, but I can guarantee you NO girl likes a wimp. Beneath contempt. Pull her aside at that next party once she's hqd a drink, a quiet corner but not too quiet, look her in the eye, smile, and tell her what you want. Don't [censored], just say the other night was a mistake, don't try and explain. From that point, the path ahead is clear depending on her response. However, judging by your posting this in the first place and some of your responses, I do think that you're perhaps not cut out for this type of play, but it obviously bothers you enough to try and change how you react in certain situations. Well here's your chance. Nothing ventured nothing gained. -
Neither....franken No it doesn't. It has a 1665 caseback most often seen with the DRSD variant. However a white dial doesn't mean fake as the red dial could have easily and justifiably been swapped out at first service. That said, dial isn't all it appears to be.

Ever owned a MBW Vintage Explorer II orange hand?
docblackrock replied to Balance's topic in The Rolex Area
FWIW, Euno and I also discussed another very good version I saw on Honpo last year - Ken could supply it, but this was just before he turned scammer, so we both passed. I only have thumbnails but that model is no longer on site anyway.... -

docblackrock replied to Balance's topic in The Rolex Area
Ok well it is a twin lock, and at least the outer indices extend to the edge of the dial, and the straight second hand is an interesting addition (that was an earlier 1655 variant), but other than that, I see nothing here that even comes close to halfway decent. Repaustria's franken is the king of 1655 reps, with TMG's franken a very worthy 'value' option. -

Even from those ridiculously tiny pics, it's missing lugholes, case too thick, crystal is too low , crown looks like a Trip not Twin.... So who is selling this as "MBW" then? -
Ever owned a MBW Vintage Explorer II orange hand?
docblackrock replied to Balance's topic in The Rolex Area
There is no "MBW" 1655. Certainly not one even approaching the near-1:1 case spec of the 1680/1665 which can accept gen parts. Beware anyone who tells you otherwise. Same deal with the 1675 - there was an 'MBW' 1675 a good while back but it was an awful attempt, thick case, wrong bezel etc. didn't accept gen parts either. -
Ape - No.9 eh? Me too Dluddy - you know Stevie Nicol is still a legend here (rumour has it an eye is being kept on his progress ) - apparently he woke his pal, King Kenny, up in the middle of the night to pass on the news.....needless to say he'd a drink or two
