  1. Oh, and to tie your two articles together, I've got my Top Gun on a black NATO strap. The trick is to marker-pen the spring bars black so you can't see the parts made visible by the fact the NATO is a 20mm strap on a 21mm watch.
  2. One of the finest movies of its genre ever made:
  3. Sure there is. You can always blame someone who actively and knowingly defrauds you. It is, after all, their fault.
  4. Excellent idea. I can't wait to see it. Good luck!
  5. That's what happens when you cut out the retail chain, import duty, tax and marketing costs.
  6. Hot water can make waterproof watches leak.
  7. If I were offered another watch to review, I'd probably accept it, depending on who offered it. ps. Ok, maybe not.
  8. I've put it on a 20mm NATO for today and can put it on the 21mm 3717 strap tomorrow. I'll let you know.
  9. Sure, as long as you break it down a little. Approve of anyone doing it Approve of certain people doing it Disapprove in most cases Disapprove in all cases etc. ps. Your poll, ask what you like, really.
  10. Me? I get whatever the dealers give me. Seriously, I choose watches based on how much I like the genuines, or in the case of fantasy watches, whether or not they'd get spotted as obvious forgeries. I have a fantasy Rolex, Breitling and IWC and I reckon they'll all pass first glance without a problem. I like design and a well-designed watch that suits my style (no bling please, we're british) and choose based on what would suit me, meaning no Ferrari or Bentley watches for a start. Oh, apart from when something whacky comes along like the Panerai 187.
  11. Can you give an example of where this is done? Oh, please be careful to not use examples where the person is doing the review as part of their job.
  12. I agree. Every post on a forum is biased: it's what makes a forum.
  13. You can take me at my word when I say that if the watch had had a problem it would have been reviewed and the problem mentioned. It's very easy to say how I would have behaved, but you're projecting what you think of me when you do so. People have to stop thinking of this as a Pugwash thing. It's not. Don't use this as an opportunity to sharpen your spurs on an old gunslinger when that will get in the way of the core debate. I've been very open about the whole thing and still think I have done nothing wrong. What's done is done, so let's see what we as a community can gain from this.
  14. This is a workable system. I'd be interested in seeing how many dealers are interested. One problem that I can see is that it's not only dealers that incurr expenses. Maybe insured postage doesn't take too much of a dent out of some peoples' disposable incomes, but I for one cannot afford to pay for the privilege to spend hours of my free time for the good of the community. Also, you'll need very specific suggestions on how to post the watch to and from people. Nothing can sour an excellent idea as fast as people not discussing who covers the costs in case of seizure, damage or loss beforehand.
  15. Thanks for the unbiased and objective view.
  16. I'm glad this thread has gone quiet. Maybe now people will stop posting in it.
  17. Sorry, but you're going to have to be disappointed. You should be used to that by now, though.
  18. Clearly, this is a fantasy watch that's inspired by two watches, but it could never be mistaken for a ceramic watch. It's pretty obvious I like this watch and did so from the moment I saw it. It's one of those decisions a buyer has to make: do they like decent fantasy watches or do they need their watches to be based on specific models?
  19. Like I said, most people appreciate reviews. The surprising part of your comment is that you don't. What part of my having said this in my original response wasn't clear?
  20. Opinions can surprise. Firstly, there are no official reviewers. The closest we get is By-Tor. Secondly, most people appreciate reviews. You don't like me, I get it. Try to separate the argument from the person.
  21. Ok, this has to be the most surprising post I've read in the thread.
  22. For those interested, and for openness, this is the entire discussion I had with Angus: http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=10143 Next was a PM from Angus asking for my address. That's it. All the behind the scenes negotiating, splitting of profits, etc. Not as conspiratorial when it's that plain, is it.
  23. So, it comes down to the integrity of the reviewer? Someone like By-Tor could be expected to be unbiased yet Noob McNoobson would be looked upon with disdain? This is one point I will agree on.
