Here's my gold one: Here's the one I shouldn't have sold: The old Dirtjust:

Try Lello.

Not at all the same. The 187 uses a Panerai-specific datewheel. ps. I may have a spare 187 datewheel. I'll just check ...

This weekend is a classic Rolex 1665 weekend.

I'm considering getting a Rolex done. That's how good it is. :-) Also, one of the crystals I may send next week would be a Fortis gen's crystal or maybe a Seiko Monster. There comes a point that a mod can make something less accurate and better than gen, especially if it's something you'd do to a gen. Actually, the more I think about it, the more likely it is I'll send something like a 187's crystal and a fantasy Chrono Avenger's as those two have an obvious need for AR.

Hanky Panky going on in the rep assembly line?

It could be worse ... -
It looks like I made the right gamble to spend the money on an iPhone, guessing it'd not be released before pay-day.
-
How many people here have ever met any of this lot though? I believe one person has mentioned they met George W, is that it?

Oh, I forgot to mention ... those photos are straight off the camera. The only post-production was resizing them for the forum.

When K2222 told me of his AR, I was slightly sceptical, but was glad that someone was offering a service in the EU. Then, during an IWC discussion, I commented I was not a fan of the Ingenieur and K2222 noticed this. He PMed me an offer that I simply could not refuse; he offered to lend me his Inge with his own AR coating on it so I could review his coating and maybe change my mind on the Inge's "oh dear, my bezel has fallen off" Gerald Genta design. Well, the first thing I noticed was that he'd sent me a watch without a crystal. Realising it was an AR-coated sapphire convinced me there and then that I will be getting some of my crystals done. Yes, it really is that good. As for the Inge, Mrs Pugwash thinks it's gorgeous, and I'm convinced it's better in reality than in photos. Will I get one? Well, I'm considering it as it's one of the watches that looks really really good with AR. It's very hard to show AR-coating photographically as I can take some pics where it looks like there's no visible crystal and others where it's a blue wash. Both look wrong, so I made a little video in the hope that you can see what I'm on about. Unfortunately, as my server is down, I have nowhere to put it. I'll attach the little SWF clip in a short while. Conclusion: I recommend getting at least one of your crystals done. I'm mailing off a couple of crystals on Monday. Edit: Video visible offsite here. Unfortunately, RWG doesn't let me embed the clip into this post.

yes, it does look like a beard hair. Oh, wait, that's not what you meant ... -
Angus (Puretime) was claiming this for the ETA-powered version.

I joined TRC about 18 months ago. It was my first home in this hobby. I wish it another five years.

I mind voiding my warranty. SSH is built-in to the OS, or at least is an installable BSD component. The terminal app can't be that hard, but there's no Touch API available so I don't know how it'd work.

In Feb '08, the development kit allows you to write signed applications for the iPhone. This will mean, for me, a command-line terminal. The day I can ssh from my iPhone is the day everything becomes possible as I can set up a screened terminal session on my home server that's connected to IRC servers, I can also manage my work servers from it or do any of the hardcore UNIX cli stuff I usually do. It means I can use the iPhone as a client. Oh, for those that don't follow tech that much, the iPhone has UNIX underneath the pretty graphics. Full-fat, leaded-petrol, non-sugar-free UNIX, based on BSD's userland. Oh my. I want a CLI to that.

I reckon ... No Flash/Java means no web-based gtalk/AIM/MSN and therefore you need to use SMS. Phone providers (AT&T/o2) hate people not using their paying services. In fact, if you look at the T&C, it specifically states you're not allowed to use their internet for chatting.

This is my review of the iPhone. A few people have asked for my opinion, so here it is. Yes, an iPod Touch and a n95 would be a workable way of doing it, but I really like the iPhone. It suffers, much like the original iPod did, in feature-list Top Trumps (my favourite missing-the-point iPod review: "No wireless. Less space than a nomad. Lame.") but is one of those things that's a joy to use, as opposed to hard work. It's more like a fun toy than a work tool, much like the Mac itself. You do the same jobs as on a blackberry or n95, but it doesn't feel like work. The email and browsing are, without a shadow of doubt, significantly better than anything else out there. It does Push email, if you can stand using a Yahoo address (I can't) but the regular POP/IMAP are perfectly decent with a superb interface. Browsing is ... well, if you don't need Flash or Java, the exact same as on a desktop computer. It's the little things, the things that just work together, the simplicity and feeling that it's designed to do what it's doing as opposed to merely being a phone fortified with added vitamins and features. The camera is adequate, but don't expect much more than the occasional wrist-shot to appear on the forums from it as it's just another phone camera. The software may be better, but there's not much you can do on a phone. Oh, and it's an iPod. Even if you dislike the iPhone, it's going to be good for you as it's scared the crap out of an industry that was happy playing Top Trumps instead of learning how to make phones better. Next year, the mobile world will be a different and more usable place because of the iPhone. Photos (with watches) soon.

Amazing work, as usual. I love the decay on that old movement. Runs like a charm but looks its age.

Nice watch, mate.

moment 1340, "very brief portion of time, instant," in moment of time, from O.Fr. moment, from L. momentum "movement, moving power," also "instant, importance," contraction of *movimentum, from movere "to move" (see move). Some (but not O.E.D.) explain the sense evolution of the L. word by notion of a particle so small it would just "move" the pointer of a scale, which led to the transf. sense of "minute time division." Sense of "importance, 'weight' " is attested in Eng. from 1522. Momentous formed 1656 in Eng., to carry the sense of "important" while momentary (1526) kept the meaning "of an instant of time." Phrase never a dull moment first recorded 1889 in Jerome K. Jerome's "Three Men in a Boat." Phrase moment of truth first recorded 1932 in Hemingway's "Death in the Afternoon," from Sp. el momento de la verdad, the final sword-thrust in a bull-fight.

Yeah, but that's total [censored]. :-) Vacheron is pronounced vash-er-on (the a is the same as in hat) and the word watch pre-dates V&C by several centuries.

The more I read about JM, the more I like him. http://blog.honeyee.com/john/archives/2006...ometer_lov.html

No, JM is spot on. The Rolex OJ presented to the courts was fake, but the one he owned was real. There's nothing like protecting your gen with a fake. ;-)

It's just the pictures. It doesn't have AR.

What both you and the other Gel (hey, it's boarding school, you're all Gels) failed to understand that it is a tradition and they do do that kind of thing in Italy. Morris dancing, for instance, is a tradition that is done in England, but that doesn't mean we all do it. If you start denying national traditions because they're not practised by everyone, you're missing out on the rich tapestry of cultures. Her response was such a snobbish response, but she was 13 and in boarding school, so that counts as "Duh". :-)
