Let's be honest, I'd much rather they were a lot cheaper, but people seem to be very willing to pay these prices, so they're here to stay.

I was one of those who was rallying that the SuperReps were way too expensive and that the hobby couldn't support these over-priced watches. However, I think it's time for all of us who complain about the high prices to finally accept that the market easily accepts the pricing as proposed. Who currently has Cousteaus in stock? I've paid for mine and it's on back-order. Dealers are selling as many as they can get. How many people rave over the Steelfish? I never thought I'd pay that for a replica, but it's the best replica ever made. We're willing to pay the prices they're asking and they're willing to keep releasing new models. Looks like we've turned a page and SuperReps are part of the scene. We lost, it's time to accept that. I'm calling for a moratorium on over-complaining about the prices. Let's move on to a battle we can win.

Sounds dead easy. What would a watchmaker charge? I'm in Glasgow (well, a way out, but I come to town often) and I'll do it cheaper. Yes, it's the kind of repair that can be done at a pub table with the right tools and a quiet enough pub.

It is. If the buckle is sewn in, you have to hacksaw it out. If it's screw- or spring-fitted, you just use a screwdriver or springbar tool.

I lowballed the regular ebay sellers for a few weeks before I got lucky. I bought it not because it's a nice watch but because it's useful. We've decided to do a lot of camping and walking this year, so, after seeing a T-Touch, I realised I'd need a compass watch. This was 1/8th the price of a T-Touch and I don't care if it gets scuffed up or dirty. My idea of a walk is grabbing an OS map and just doing it.

On Saturday, We decided to exercise our right to roam and check out the local countryside. Armed with an OS map and my compass watch, we followed what should have been a road. We walked several hours along this sort of terrain, seeing a cow give birth under the watchful eyes of friendly farmers and generally enjoying the countryside. This is what was shown as a road. Warning about Superglue: the fumes can fog crystals and gum works. Never use it near an open watch or an unmasked crystal.

Having worked in design, I can tell you that one photo on the internet compared with another is not at all a good way of verifying colour.
