  1. Were these reps 1:1 cases with AR etc.? ps. I know the daytona didn't have AR in gen, but you know what I mean ...
  2. Let's be honest, I'd much rather they were a lot cheaper, but people seem to be very willing to pay these prices, so they're here to stay.
  3. Today, it's an IWC day. I've not worn this one for a while, but it's comfortable, looks good and keeps ETA-powered time.
  4. I was one of those who was rallying that the SuperReps were way too expensive and that the hobby couldn't support these over-priced watches. However, I think it's time for all of us who complain about the high prices to finally accept that the market easily accepts the pricing as proposed. Who currently has Cousteaus in stock? I've paid for mine and it's on back-order. Dealers are selling as many as they can get. How many people rave over the Steelfish? I never thought I'd pay that for a replica, but it's the best replica ever made. We're willing to pay the prices they're asking and they're willing to keep releasing new models. Looks like we've turned a page and SuperReps are part of the scene. We lost, it's time to accept that. I'm calling for a moratorium on over-complaining about the prices. Let's move on to a battle we can win.
  5. This is what bugs me. The poor sod has to wear a quartz chrono because it's aimed at his age demographic.
  6. That's true. Both Alonso and Hamilton wear Daytonas in private, allegedly. ... and it doesn't matter if he's got the best car or not. He's still got to drive it. Like I said, he's making it interesting. I never said he's the second coming, even though it is excellent to have some new British talent. I hope the press don't make his life too difficult.
  7. Yes, we all know Lewis wears TAGs (as part of his job), but here's a picture of him putting his one on for the podium in Montreal. ... and here he is walking up to the top step. It's one of these. Congrats to the man that makes F1 interesting for the first time since 1994.
  8. This one? http://www.rwg.cc/lottery/ Nope, works fine.
  9. Excellent, another instalment!
  10. Sounds dead easy. What would a watchmaker charge? I'm in Glasgow (well, a way out, but I come to town often) and I'll do it cheaper. Yes, it's the kind of repair that can be done at a pub table with the right tools and a quiet enough pub.
  11. I found a decent pic or two on redwatches.com or doubleredseadweller.com and just copied that by eye.
  12. I'm no expert having only done one myself, but if you get very fine sandpaper and a dremel with a polishing wheel, you can get a perfect finish. Here's my first attempt: Note the reflections on the near-mirror finish
  13. Possible, but less likely. Besides, I think no matter what he did, people would always have the "but he could have done more" answer. Like "if he logged in for 3-4 minutes, surely he could spend just 2 more answering my mail" or "it'd just take him three more minutes to explain when we'd get our stuff back." Yes, Finepics has cocked this one up royally, but there's no point in waiting for him to post until he's got something to say, and let's be honest, that's not now. ps. Didn't he have PC problems at some point?
  14. It's not reuseable afterwards, by the way.
  15. It is. If the buckle is sewn in, you have to hacksaw it out. If it's screw- or spring-fitted, you just use a screwdriver or springbar tool.
  16. I lowballed the regular ebay sellers for a few weeks before I got lucky. I bought it not because it's a nice watch but because it's useful. We've decided to do a lot of camping and walking this year, so, after seeing a T-Touch, I realised I'd need a compass watch. This was 1/8th the price of a T-Touch and I don't care if it gets scuffed up or dirty. My idea of a walk is grabbing an OS map and just doing it.
  17. It's not a Suunto. It's a Casio Tri-Sensor. Compass :: Barometer/Thermometer :: Time/Date :: Altimeter :: World Time
  18. On Saturday, We decided to exercise our right to roam and check out the local countryside. Armed with an OS map and my compass watch, we followed what should have been a road. We walked several hours along this sort of terrain, seeing a cow give birth under the watchful eyes of friendly farmers and generally enjoying the countryside. This is what was shown as a road. Can you see the vague path between two rough hedges? Here is the compass/altimeter/barometer watch. Not mechanical and not a rep, I'm afraid.
  19. Unless they actually mean "pay him a visit." Asking someone to pop over to a mate's house to see if they're all right isn't actionable.
  20. Yes, but converting something to look more realistic could be a grey area that flags up lots of warning bells.
  21. Diamonds and sapphire crystals don't mix. That's why I only hump the cheap ones ... (What's that dear? Yes dear, I'm on the internets talking about watches again. Yes dear, I'll be right through to finish the kitchen. Sorry dear.) Got to go, them bitches need slappin' back into shape.
  22. Is modifying them counted as manufacturing counterfeit goods? Is profiting from counterfeiting illegal? This isn't the time to notify any form of authorities about our little hobby ...
  23. Warning about Superglue: the fumes can fog crystals and gum works. Never use it near an open watch or an unmasked crystal.
  24. Having worked in design, I can tell you that one photo on the internet compared with another is not at all a good way of verifying colour.
