  1. You miss the point. They say they're replicas of Rolexes with genuine ETA movements. They lie when they think we won't notice.
  2. This is ... um, well, it's not a feature of SLRs, it's a feature of bigger sensors. The majority of machines with bigger sensors are indeed SLRs, but it's not a certainty. It's like saying Italian cars are faster than German cars because Ferrari are Italian and Volkswagen are German.
  3. Once more, nice pics.
  4. "The more I practice, the luckier I get" - Gary Player "If I can't win, I won't play" - Carl Fogarty "Well, I really think he shatters the myth of white supremacy once and for all." - Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) on George Bush.
  5. psst. I already posted that. Ironic, huh?
  6. I didn't even mention that one at the beginning. Are you going to give the dealer the thumbs down?
  7. I'm unhappy because I couldn't pick up my mystery EMS package today and I have two new watches that are over two weeks away from getting here. I saw them over a video chat and now have to wait ... Oh, and I'm not really unhappy as I've got a mystery EMS package waiting for me downstairs and even more watches less than a month away!
  8. Didn't you know? That's a sapphire tester. Those watches passed.
  9. I posted Silix's reply here. Jay would have done it himself but he can't connect to this board.
  10. Sure, but when they're making the watch for $1 or $2 and adding a $5 movement, why bother using a $30 movement instead? Ok, the real reason is that in 2011, ETA is no longer selling movements and people have started stockpiling them. This means no surplus and the surplus is where the rep makers get their movements. Better?
  11. Ok, put a Dino 308 engine in the running gear of a 2CV. Better?
  12. ...apparently. It's what 6 times the price of the Asian ones.
  13. A Ferrari engine going through a Mini gearbox onto Morris Minor wheels may be part-Ferrari, but it'll never perform like one. That 2892 is a Mule.
  14. Yes. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=13827
  15. Their business model is to give it a stupid RRP and mark it down via eBay for about $200. No-one ever pays RRP. Shutter_Bug on RWI does them for $115.
  16. ... and this is a telling phrase. Never knowingly lie. I'd rather deal with someone who cared whether or not he lied to me, like TTK, but I'd settle for someone who was forced through market forces or whatever not to lie to me.
  17. Around $115 which is something like 35p in UK money these days.
  18. boom! See, this is exactly what we don't want to have to do. @jj69: Some of them are real 2892s, and some of them aren't. The dealers selling real ones are now going to be confounded by the fact no-one will buy gen ETA2892 movements from them now. Wo-Mart, Trusty and Josh are all confirmed as advertising some of their non-ETA watches as having ETA2892s. Your guess is as good as mine which ones have the gen movements.
  19. I imagine I may not be on some dealers' Christmas card lists, but I've got almost a year to get back on them. That's how I see it, anyway.
  20. Yay! You fixed my Sub!
  21. Exactly ... apart from the fact it's not a Venus 175. It's a Seagull ST-19, but I get your point.
  22. And you've possibly hit the nail on the head. Or a nail somewhere near its head, at least. If the dealers who lie suddenly lose us all and we start using a new superdealer, then they only lose us, a small percentage of their customers (I don't believe that bit myself - we're larger than they let on) but they suddenly empower superfred, or whatever he's called, to be our best dealer, which gives him capital to challenge them on other fronts, while having us, the credible clients, filling his googlity with power points all over the web. He suddenly becomes a thread to the hegemony of current dealers and it's because they lied. Ok, Superfred's tale is a little far fetched, but if you remember Angus's post about fewer high-margin higher quality reps being the direction the forgers are taking, we are the target market. We hold the power. Stop lying to us and we'll be there for you.
  23. Different argument. Let's discuss it elsewhere as it just serves to dilute this thread.
