  1. Thank the Humane Society, who actually got in touch with local animal welfare societies instead if just baying for blood and wishing death and torture on someone.
  2. The Silix Panerai 111h is my usual recommendation for an entry-level Panerai.
  3. By the way, the humane society has a statement on this event. It does seem as the whole event has been exceedingly overplayed. If you bayed for the artist's blood, well done - you're part of the exhibit. http://www.hsus.org/contact_us/humane_soci...ml#Q_dog_artist Q. Is it true that a Central American artist used a starving dog in an art exhibit? We are aware of this story and have asked our contacts in Central America for more information. According to local animal welfare organizations, the dog was in a state of starvation when he was captured from the street for display in the exhibit. We have also been informed that the dog spent one day in the exhibit and later escaped the gallery. We do not condone the actions of this so-called "artist," and condemn the use of live animals in exhibits such as this. An animal welfare organization in Honduras, where the next art show will be held, is keeping close watch on the case and assures us that the artist will not repeat his objectionable exhibit. Sadly, thousands of street dogs in Central America are in as poor shape as this one. HSI works throughout the world to prevent the circumstances that allow such a tragic event to take place. We encourage you to learn more about our street animal welfare programs.
  4. About some artist faking starving a dog to death, I bet.
  5. Did you change the date between 10pm and 2am? If so, this can make the wheels pop out. It's easy to fix once the hands and dial have been removed.
  6. I picked this one up a while ago and have been wondering what to do with it ... Maybe I should get it superlumed, get a Swiss movement or just sell it. Ideas?
  7. Excellent review. Mrs Pugwash has a Crazy Hours, but the jump isn't as snappy any more. I think it must have got knocked or something. I'll be taking a look shortly so hopefully, we can have some complication photos. I bought hers from Narikaa.
  8. Sorry about the quality. I didn't have time to set it up properly. ... and just because it was next to a Monster, here's a lume shot.
  9. While I remember, if anyone wants to see how it compares to anything, ask soon as it's getting packed up and sent to its new owner on Monday.
  10. Why pay $800 for an ugly rep when you can get a genuine handwind tourbillon with power reserve for $500?
  11. They know exactly what to do with it: spend it on expensive watches to help further the craft. People buying silly complications keeps talented watch designers employed and push the boundaries of what's possible forward. Stuff that happens at the high end trickles down and eventually makes stuff at the low end better. Besides, what would you rather they spent it on?
  12. Too kind. It's nowhere near as researched as one of yours.
  13. Now, I'll be very honest here. I've no idea what these things are, I just got this as a fixer-upper. It's impressive though, and here's my review. Please note, the day and date wheel on the version pictured are genuine ETA parts, installed when I repaired the watch. The Corum Admiral's Cup Competition is a big watch. It's a 48mm behemoth that wears easier than its size suggests it should, mostly due to the titanium case construction and decent rubber strap. As I don't know much about this watch, you're going to have to just put up with some photos. Hopefully a real expert can examine the details and tell us how accurate it is. In 2006, Corum released this watch and priced it at $6,200, but it can be found for a couple of thousand cheaper than that. The replica was made from a genuine version and as such it's exceedingly accurate. It feels like a decent and solid watch. The crown is steel, nuzzled in solid plastic crown guards. The caseback looks like the genuine. It's made of titanium with what appears to be a different metal insert in the middle. Behind this caseback lies an Asian 7750, running at 28k8 with the chrono features removed. The strap is decent, dust-free and flexible. It takes 24mm straps, so Panerai wearers can use the straps from their 44mm watches. The keeper is kept in place on the strap, which is nice. The buckle is also a solid piece of titanium. No painful bits on it, either. Slightly domed AR-coated sapphire and amazing sharp clean case edges. Serial numbers on the caseback. It wears about the same as a Fiddy, only easier. You can see it's got regular replica anti-reflective coating, which isn't as good as the after-market stuff our guys offer. The buckle is excellent. Comfy and solid. Look at the size of that mofo. It positively dwarfs the Sub on the right. It looks well at home between a 187 and a 1950. The colours on the flags don't look as bright as photos I've seen on T'Internet, but that's no real indication. The lume is better than the usual rep fare, and all the numbers are painted. The story behind this watch is a fun one. Precious Time offered it up as a broken watch on RepGeeks and I snapped it up thinking I could fix it and sell it for a small profit. It turned out to be a bit more work than I anticipated. Opening it up, I saw a cog fall out. Oops, that doesn't look good. The date change mechanism is a write-off. These were the broken bits I replaced. As mentioned above, you can put 24mm Panerai straps on it. There has been no photoshop on these pictures, they've been cleaned in iPhoto for levels, cropping and stuff.
  14. All I can tell you about Numb3rs is Don Epps wears an IWC Flieger and Charlie wears a calculator watch. "a watch like that makes you the man in charge." - spoken by a suspect in last weeks episode when Don walked in.
  15. I've made a gallery of all 270 lots. I've added the link to your reference post too. Click the logo to see them.
  16. Toady, you inspired me. I went and l33ched all the Antiquorum pictures and put them in one place, reduced for convenience. I've got all the large ones if anyone is after anything specific. Click the logo to see them.
  17. I think a "Cheap Watch" sub-forum would work, but haven't we already got a gen section? [looks] Hmm, we don't. Maybe we can lobby for one.
  18. Diver's watches aren't marketed to divers.
  19. This soon to be for sale one. ETA day/date wheels, 48mm wide ...
  20. Duh, the teacher was wrong. Some of the most amazing art in the history of ... er, ever was done with a religious theme. You'd have to be a munce-head to denounce it because it's got an imaginary theme. ps. WTF? We're discussing religion again?
  21. Strawman. You're making something up and telling me how I'd react. I'm done here, as it's obvious this thread and its ilk is not the place for a call for calm, reasoned thought.
