  1. I had the ones above. They are very accurate to the gen. 1 has correct subdial placement 2 has logo to low. The logo issue isn't as bad in person, unless you want one the size of your screen. Wait are you chuck d?
  2. I used to have a citizen, good for already being set I have a tissot now as my non mechanical. I take it on vacations and such where its actually a useful tool that you need to just work
  3. That's a good list I use HKTAN his link there is old http://s32.photobucket.com/albums/d25/HKTAN1/ pass HKTAN His email is the hotmail address above
  4. Here is where you will hear opinions all over the map. My basic philosophy is as follows re: servicing and or upgrading mov'ts. Assuming we are talking a situation where the movement doesn't not enhance the rep, big seconds, Me personally I do not service nor do I upgrade. We can debate the merits. Clearly a mechanical movt needs to be serviced for a long life, but really, your not going to have this watch for 30yrs. If you become a frequent member, I give you six months tops before you sell it and get something else. Also gen ETA is better than Chinese movts. But that would assume they are gen eta. I do not think they are. Others disagree, there is a good discussion in my sig. At best they are used, ebauche, or quality control defects and are still not properly oiled so, I'm just not convinced their failure rate is better or worse. Unless you point out a specific batch of watches that might have an issue. I play the odds. For me it's been wildly successful. Since you could probably buy and have installed another 6497 for 70$ and since the failure rate is not 50% in the long run you will be spending a lot more and may or may not be able to recoup that value. In 7 yrs, I've had @70 pieces or so come through my hands and have only had 3 movement issues, 1 was a failure. Others were minor. I have never had any problems with the hand winds. enjoy
  5. Time keeping is not dependent on bpm, at least between Asian reps. As I understand it, the only choices you have are 18,8 21 28, 8 33,6 33,6 is the zenith el primero movement, first automatic chronograph and used in vintage daytonas. Unfortunately no rep The more bpm, the smoother the seconds hand rotates, it still ticks but if the increment in which it ticks is smaller and smaller the eye perceives this as a smooth sweeping motion. The perceived smoothness via your eye is also dependent on the size of the hand. Think about a pie chart. If the pie chart is very small the individual sections look crammed and on top of each other. If you blow that chart up it appears to have larger differences in the categories. If you think of a watch hand moving around that pie chart a short hand has little ground to cover. A large hand running along the outer edge of the circle has a longer distance to cover. The longer distance, the end of the watch hand looks smoother if it's number of ticks in getting from point a to point b is increased. Most people's impression of a smooth sweeping seconds is rolex. Modern Rolex movements beat at 28,8 — 18k bpm will look more ticky. My observation as a practical matter is when your looking at small seconds, even 18k bpm looks smooth. If you have a chronograph Pam with 18k then your small seconds looks smooth. If you engage the chronograph then the large seconds hand will appear more ticky
  6. Don't know that model off the top of my head. But here is the general rule. Small seconds (subdial) looks smooth at 18,8. If the watch has long seconds then you want to have a 28,8 movt.
  7. You may want to look in the straps section on the site. There are good places for people on a budget 40$-60$ and strap makers who can make just about anything you want. Those prices generally run 100-200$. If you do the custom strap, generally you can get one nicer than a gen which would cost at least 2x Check the strap makes and google Panerai strap. There is a long list of vendors.
  8. Uh, sorry to bring this up now, but I didn't want to make up, I was just using that issue to get a kiss Alls well that ends well
  9. See as we discussed, 1 gold is a lot heavier and there is something w rolex where people default to thinking it's fake. Of course most Americans think rolex is one of the top watch brands while they may have better volume, they get blown away on quality, price, design and desirability to watch collectors. time to rock out w your new rep!!
  10. One of these days I have to get you into dive watches
  11. Had that misfire thing happen on my new Pam, need to take it to the local watch maker
  12. i had one of those in the 80's, i remember it was a big present for me. - I lost track of it, not sure where it ended up.
  13. Hey man, 1. I'm not sure i was being sarcastic. It was more jovial jolly ect. I missed the part of the sentance that said you actually hired the lawyer. - Which, should have immediatly removed any comments on the legal matter from being directed tword you as you are stating the lawyers opinion and not your own. Additionally, I was pretty clear in my post that a. I don't know chinese law and b. In the US there would be problems with suing them. I'm not really sure why your upset - with my comment. Even if I was trying to advise you, where, I clearly say i'm not, I would agree, you should ignore the person who gave you a list of reasons why it wouldn't work in the US and listen to the person your paying in China. I wish you the best of luck on your quest. i will withold further legal commentary on the issue.
  14. a low end 150$ camera and a light box here is my old and new lightbox - I'll be doing a better tutorial on this when i'm done with the first stack of stuff i already committed to. but, they are very simple, they diffuse the light which evens it out and allows for you to take longer exposure shots to get the brightness of the photo. The wood is polished so it will have a slightly reflective surface. I may need to clearcoat but for now, i'm ok with its reflective properties. There are a million "how tos" on how to build a lightbox for cheap, or buy one on ebay. You wont need my detailed help there. I'm going to concentrate on the materials i'm using to dress the watch and how to handle common problems - crystal reflections, dust, finger prints, bad white balance. They are probably already covered in Pugwash's photo section. But, I will also touch on whats worked for me and what hasnt By phoband at 2012-01-07
  15. I had 1 photo of it in an older thread. I'm going to do a formal writeup, but, basically, i got a black cloth organizing cardboard sides from fabric store on sale for 5$. Got semi transparent white cloth. Cut a few holes in the basket, draped the white cloth over. As a floor, i ordered a black cutting board. I'm using swirly floresant bulbs. They have a variaty called daytime sunlight. It will drive you nuts if used for room lighting, but, i figured it would produce a very true color reproduction. I was correct, i did do an auto color correct, but it was super super minor. Special design features as compared to my old one (wire hangers and cut up t shirt) 1. all black structure means i have less places to reflect off the crystal. I used to manually place a black cloth to cover up reflections. 2. long openings are great for flexability 3. decided to go long rather than wide. I want to do more with the background of photos. The longer distance will allow me to easily blur out the background without the camera having a good ability to perform that type of shot. 4. Those things, plus the halogen bulbs are big upgrades to my old way. There is much much more flexability built into this one. 5. I have a stack of woods fabric's fake animal skins and some wacky items to use. I also carved up PHO in wood. I have alot of ideas on what can be done, but i'm only just getting started. Its the "props" that will be part of the writeup I am still testing some ideas, but i think i maybe onto something cool a good way to dim and blur background using a black mesh, like a wedding veil. I like these "headshot" style photos, but i want some more color and texture. The ebony is a big upgrade from my previous photos due to the nice marbling. I'm actually really happy that the core of the build (completely from my own brainstorming, no tutorials actually worked as i expected. now its just a matter of using those core functions to be a tool for creativity. I only did this one piece because i wanted to make sure everything held up well on my large pc screen in photoshop rather than on the dinky camera screen. - It worked
  16. If you happen to see the other day, i created a new lightbox. over the past few days i've been polishing some of my pen woods to use as a floor. Everything was a great success. I'm gonig to do a writeup on my lightbox, but, i think that I have built in alot of flexability and durability for some experiments i want to run. The only flaw so far in the design is, you have to move the lights away from the box, in order to easily setup items in the shot. Here is the first test photo my unbranded tourbillon on hand polished macasser ebony
  17. Mike, when did you go to law school? I'm not up on chinese law, but there are a few general provisions in US law that would nullify your ability to sue. Basically, if a contract is as it stands illegal, it can not be enforced in any court. Not counting the fact that you will be admitting to at a minimum customs fraud, but also possession and transport of contraband. And, i have a hard time believing that they are incorporated. and if you happen to believe what they say - you'd be suing the mafia - not good for your health
  18. My iPhone and or android is much better for the task. You guys are all wussies. Your 7750 won't break. Unless your playing some sort of violent sport. Sometimes I let the chrono run so I have the large sweeping seconds rocking. Also, there have been many of these threads over the years. General consensus is no first time I have seen so many people afraid to turn it on
  19. So, I'm sure we all use our phones to tell time Well, one of those boutique designers who makes everything by hand under a logically incoherent theme created this watch the H8 it's a tourbillion with no time indicators. Just the tourby. It's from 2009 and is only 15,000 (I'll take 2) they should rep this . As they say in the UK - brilliant !
  20. Typically, most dealers do not sell parts. However, if you have created a relationship and purchased a few pieces, they may all of a sudden get you the parts you need. Bracelet, if available on a rep is probably the easiest of parts to obtain
  21. One thing I have always said about the forum is, anyone would be surprised as to the various levels of expertise we have. Lawyers doctors logistics. You don't know till you ask. and since I have met and dined with members in Florida, Hawaii and portugal, I can tell you that if we didn't all have a level of anonymity here, it would be a wild wacky place for sure Now as far as who is ordering what booze, I don't need a case, but if you can get 1 of double proof coconut rum (crazy sugar addict) I'll be there.
  22. Nothing personal, it's just your idea would cause some increased liability (I'm a lawyer) your free to open a business. But I was just stating my experience with trying to do things here as a group. It's q good idea. But would work better with gens:) and I've dealt with setting up companies with 3 different international banks. We kept getting shot down because of need to accept international $$. We finally got a deal in place, but dealing with a straight up legal business, I can only imagine the headaches with this venture. I really don't have a good answer. That's why I suggested it. If someone. Came up with a procedure or Guideline maybe we could recommend or have additional rules.
  23. I wear mine all the time. I agree the see through is overkill of worry in "the wild". First, this is so limited edition. You. Could go for the rest of your life without meeting someone who has ever seen one in person. The mag is a little more, but, it's just not something that pops out. It's a very cool piece, I recommend AR coating.
