Just want to relate my latest encounter with DSN. Items ordered 1. Sapphire Crystal for PAM 127 (Mine exploded abt 6 months back) 2. 113 hands sets 3. 111 dial and hands set. 4. PAM 127 dial and hands set (Old dial scratched and then totaled by my less than competent luming skills) Items 1,2,3 arrived yesterday. Item 4 arrived about 2 months earlier. Today, went to the friendly neighbourhood doc and got an excuse chit from work. Stomach not handlling foreign food too well (things I do for this hobby). Went to the post office collected the parcel and was looking forward to a day's work "upgrading" my PAMs. Opened parcel..... 01x minute hand missing. Emailed DSN. No problem, was thinking of getting it lumed professionally anyway. no issues there. Edit: Latest update, DSN sent a set of lumed 111 hands FOC as replacement for missing minute hand. Great guy. 1. Sapphire Crystal. Set within the hour. looks great. Good start. 2. Assembled the PAM 127 parts. Upgraded cannon pin. Dial on movement, Seconds hand fixed, hour hand fixed, mintes hand fixed. Rodicoed prints on dial and crystal and the disaster begins...... Bloody dial too big for my PAM case. I mean WTF. WTF am I supposed to do. Long story short - dug up an old dial, less than perfect old dial, and transplanted the hands to the old dial. What was supposed to be a 30min job took the better half of the day. thankfully no such problems faced with the 111 and 113 So forewarning to members - DSN's hands and Sapphire crystal are 99%. be careful with his 127 dials. Is this Canon Pin + Hour Wheel combo good? (DSN)
siesta181 replied to silvio's topic in The Panerai Area
Interested to know as well. Its stated quite often that the Cannon Pin should be H3 but the one indicated in pics is H2. Experts please chime in.... -
The addiction in perspective. Is it more to do with watches?
siesta181 replied to ubiquitous's topic in General Discussion
Haha... Posted the same question about a month back. Glad to know its not just me. I have this sense of emptiness when all I have ordered arrived and off I go to the web to order more. Back then someone replied calling it consumerism. I thinks its addiction. Don't think it has anything to do with the watch. It will be applicable to any hobby. Just that our hobby is rep collecting. I suppose, its about the chase. Shares some similarities when chasing a girl (disclaimer, in our youner and less mature days of coz, we are more mature now) The chase, the anticipation and .....(fill blanks here)... Of coz in our younger, less mature days, needless to say. Cheers Siesta181 -
Very unlikely. I am generally a fickle minded person. I have polar opposites professional career and leisurely pursuits. I always want a decent watch to be on my wrists regardless of the occasion. Thus 1 gen will never do. To top it, what's to say if your gen dream watch no longer stays your dream watch especially with all the new models coming out. My gen collection is modest, IWC dopplechrono (older version, smaller case), Seiko monster and a Tag Monaco. Am working towards a gen IWC Port 7 days or maybe an Omega. It just does not have the range for all occasions. The monetary investment is real. Its like having the No. 1 draft pick in the NFL. You better not screw up. My rep collection; PAM 183, PAM 111, PAM 113, PAM 127, Skyland and the Slevin. Just sold the IWC Port Chrono. The list is only limited by how much disposable income I have. Dont have to think twice when pulling the trigger. Not so with a gen. Again, I treat rep collection as a hobby and as with any other hobby, its expensive with no apparent tangible benefits. Made some friends on the boards, acquired some modding skills and a better understanding of the watches. In short, No. Not even to purchase a gen dream watch. Don't think its enough anyways. lol... Feel free to disagree

Rossi rules. Only person who can beat rossi is rossi though machine plays a big part. All things equal (machine and tyres), everyone will be smelling Rossi's exhaust smoke ALL THE TIME. He's that good. Yes Dani, I smiled as well when Stoner crashed out yesterday. He was trying too hard to get away from Rossi. Da Doctor's in da house. Cheers Siesta181

Thanks Chief, Let me know of when's the next AR run. I'd like to have it ARed. Very likely thru VAC Cheers Siesta181

Guys, Due to my incompetence in modding, I have inadvertantly place the minute hand of my PAM 111 incorrectly. It seemed to have caused a perfect "circle" to appear on the inside of my crystal. Suspected continous friction from the tip of the minute hand rubing against the crystal causing the "circle" to appear. The "circle is visible only at certain angles. Barely noticeable but its there, I know it and it bothers me. Why it bothers me? Because I KNOW its there. Question: Assuming that the crystal is sapphire crystal, the crystal should still be scratch-free, shouldn't it? And a trip to Chief is all the baby needs? The other option is crystal replacement from DSN? Crystal was from Angus. Anyone has had any misrepresentation with regards to the type of the crystal from him? If its sapphire I hope to get this problem fixed during Chief's next AR run hopefully via Vac Cheers Siesta181

Glad to hear everything's okay, Rob. Have lots of rest and Bob is your uncle (Did I use it right?). Hope this does not put a dent on your holiday plans. Kindest Regards Siesta181

I am really hoping they buy and gen and copy 1:1. They can make a killing with the BP and make reps for the Port Automatic as well. Both are using the same movt. I'd buy the BP and the Porto Auto (silver dial + Blue hands). Was and am still disappointed with the Port Auto on offer now. KR Siesta181

That was fun.... Short but extremely entertaining. Cheeers, Siesta181

You are not gonna be disappointed.

To be frank, its quite good. Real leather, I think.... but a personal touch is part of the thrill of the rep scene. I like my straps to be slightly thicker and firmer. But that's just me. Cheers Siesta181

Yup. Lucky me. You need to grab my wrist and nitpick from 5 inches to notice the lume misalignment @5 marker. There are more important things in life. Cheers Siesta181

Guys.... My Skyland timeline... Saturday - Transferred funds Sunday - Received tracking ID Tuesday - Tracking ID activated, In GZ sorting center. Despatched from GZ Tuesday evening Wednesday - No new updates ..WTF??? Thursday - Received at doorstep, Thank you Mr Wu. Only slight flaw is that bezel finish a bit unrefined.... Other than that the watch is perfect. (Noobie here so I am easily contented) Okay some pics. Mandatory wristshort Verdict: A definite must buy. Wears well on the wrist (mine's < 6.5 inches). Change the strap and you are good to go. Advanced mod would be a superlume. Even the datefont is crisp. Can't go wrong with this one. Cheers Siesta181 disclaimer - sorry about the quality of the pics. Can't expect too much from an Olympus P&S

Haha.... Mine's with the despatch courier on the way to my house. Just got to make sure somebody's there to sign for it.

Its Thursday morning where I'm at but what the heck... this was what I was wearing earlier

Ideal would be a restaurant with private rooms or sections. We can talk and share outloud. Beer and some tidbits will help as well. Hmm... which rep will have the honour of gracing the event??? Cheers Siesta181

Guys.... Awesome, keep me in the loop. Locale is important. Don't want to be attracting too much attention especially with so many bling in one place. But I got to admit, that BK place should be quiet on weekends. Hell, i dont ever remember going there on weekends Siesta181

Doc, Some info you might want to know abt my exp with Hont. Bumped into him on the web even before i found the forums. Lady luck was really looking out for me. Back then his website was sinowatches....quality of website sucked but his response was superb. First time off, he replied within the hour. And his english has improved tremendously. I found RWG early this year and interest in reps rekindled due to the infomation in modding possibilities. Tried some listed dealers here but i stil rate Hont tops. Will only go to other collectors once Hont says he cant get a particular watch (which is very rare). Mixed feeling abt this whole Hont-Jandrew incident, 1. its definitely good business for hont, 2. Hope his customer service doesnt suffer though, 3. Really hopes that he comes out unscathed (physically) from all this. This is China we are talking about here. Anything goes... Cheers Siesta181

Hi Doc, Dealt with him for the past year. No problems so far. Things Ive bought from him PAM 183, PAM 127, PAM 111, IWC Porto Chrono, IWC Aquatimer Slevin. A grey Skyland on the way. Bought some parts / spares from him. Not as good as DSNs. Price generally cheaper. Usually receives goods with a week. Cheers Siesta181

Probably not... The dealers on this board gives the best reps I've seen. All are rather prompt with questions and I hardly had any problem dealing with em. Besides, being a noobie, you wouldn't really know wat to look out for. I was in Bangkok last week and I visited the famed MBW shop in MBK shopping center, they dont even have some of the models that the dealers are carrying. So for the time being I'd stick the forum collectors. Cheers Siesta

Cheers... nice to see a fella sinkie in the forum. Cheers Siesta
