  1. Red, I suppose you could view the bath as resaleable after your experiment, if it didn't produce results. And if it did work, it would be worth keeping. And obviously you would be experimenting with various bezels, solutions, time, and UV exposure. Having never seen one of those baths, do you know if it has seperate areas? Or can be made to have many areas where different formulas could be tested? I am thinking here even of a series of jars suspended in the one bath, although that may remove the wave action factor. Not akin to putting a jar in an ultrasonic....which also brings to mind the idea of using the cleaning action of an ultrasonic, combined with some formulation to achieve a result. You could then be testing your sand in solution concept at various percentages of solution.(and with other chemicals) I do think you are however going to need a large quantity of bezel inserts. Now I can maybe assist there. One of my suppliers has a large range of bezel inserts. They are not good enough in font etc for our little hobby, however they may be OK to test various solutions(assuming a similar manufacturing method is used by all manufacturers.....It would be terrible to find something that worked, but then it only worked on shite bezels!!!) I also have maybe 20 various inserts here I would donate...again the quality varies...but if something worked on one, hopefully it will on another) BTW I do think that Lani may be heading in the right direction with Chlorox and Oxyclean...I have used Oxyclean (or an Oz equivalent for cleaning dentures) to clean dials. Works very well on older natural dials, not so well on some of the paper transfer dials of today...they disintergrate! I do think you will somehow be able to run multiple testing with various solutions....maybe worth having a play with an ultrasonic 1st, as you could run a series of tests in one of those. ( And you probably will need a commercial version with heating, and one which will hack long running times.) I will PM you about this. Offshore
  2. An interesting hypothesis! Unfortunately (IMHO) not all that accurate. First, I don't see a lot of sand flying around in the dive environment....not at the level that you would have anyway. So I'd basically ditch the abrasive side of the experiment. Next, those bezels which have shown that wonderful aging effect you are chasing, are in the main of the vintage variety. My guess is that techniques used in manufacture today, vary widely from what was the norm 20+ years ago. So unless you can find some NOS bezels, you may well be attempting to "vintagise" something which will resist that very idea, through modern manufacturing methods. I am speaking specifically of coatings here...we would need to know what we were starting from, before we could apply such an experiment. I do believe the UV light has more than some merit, as this I believe is where a greater % of aging occurs. If there is a way to speed up this process, then it would have, IMO, probably the greatest single affect. Red, I am just playing Devils Advocate here....lets get some more brains in on this....I truly commend the concept, and idea, and the passion behind it, however I think it requires a solid think through, and much input from many, so that eventually a positive result may be achieved. 3. Could these be the next big thing after Doxa? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Benrus-Vintage-TYPE-1-PLOPROF-USN-Divers-1978-serviced_W0QQitemZ150403938336QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Watches?hash=item2304c5f820#ht_500wt_975 That's got some history, and not a touch of quality....wonder how many of these are floating around? O/S
  4. @Red, We are still experimenting with different globes. We have now changed it to a 240V system, but the initial set of globes were disappointing. So it's a job on the books for this coming week to see what we can drum up. Anyways, I'm too busy posting stuff out and reordering to beat Chinese New Year!

  6. Just call by my market stall. Face to face work only for this little black duck O/S
  7. I just had a great little pickup on Ebay! This little tool, is only the 2nd one I ever have seen of these. I have lusted after one, after seeing an old time watchmaker using one. What these do for you, is give an ability to hold hands without marking, and also measure very easily, the actual diameter of the shaft hole in the hand. Then should you wish to do so, you can very easily enlarge (broach) the hole, by pushing the next sized needle shaft through it. It operates from 0.6 to 1.2, and has 10 various sizes available. When it is delivered, I will do a pictorial on its use. For me. it will become indispensable in my tool box...but I am wondering how many others would see value and useage in one of these? Maybe I may have a chat with jmb, and see what his machining skills may be able to produce. Offshore
  8. Well, regardless of whether you should or shouldn't file a Pay Pal claim, there is no point in doing so. This from their terms and conditions. August until now is a long way over 45 days, so forget that idea, and maybe just continue to try to have "friendly" discussions with the seller. Offshore.
  9. Ammonia will not affect MG. O/S
  10. Loctite 243 is a good adhesive, that will still allow you to get things apart again. Personally, I am now using "Fix Lock", which is an anaerobic adhesive (only sets when no oxygen present) for things like crowns to stem etc. We sell what we use - http://watchbitz.com.au/shop/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=168 Offshore
  11. Let me know the diameter and length. (There are various diam's!) I'll nick a couple out of stock O/S http://watchbitz.com.au/shop/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=87 http://watchbitz.com.au/shop/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=88 http://watchbitz.com.au/shop/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=90
  12. Yeh , Good call Astro, I'll give him a shout. T'would be really good if we could find someone in our private community, but he is a great option for a commercial job. Thanks, O/S
  13. Does anyone know of a repairer in the Florida area...Ft Lauderdale specifically? Either a member who can remove a movement, and carry out a small case repair on a Brietling, or a shop which will take it on? This is a community job, for a member here who had some bad dealings through the forum, and we are just attempting to make the dealings right! So if someone can assist, or knows where the job could be directed..please give me a PM. Offshore.
  14. Well W'nR, further to our PM's, it looks like we may have located one of those pushers for you. Shoot me a mail addy, and we will get it away. I hope some positive input like this, and no cost, helps to alleviate the annoyance of a sour deal. Offshore
  15. Go to, http://www.rwgforum.com/forum/127-bergies/ and PM him. O/S
  16. I'm resurrecting this post, to give due credit to a couple of great forum members. Red posted about this light box offer, back in September as you can see, and when I expressed dissapointment at not being able to get one, Toad jumped in and offered to get one for me. The same day Red also offered.... just another example of our wonderful community. Anyways Toad had already got things underway, so I then started to wait for Canada Post to do their thing. We decided to sea post to keep the shipping down, and I sort of thought maybe 6 weeks may do it. However this morning, some 10 weeks after Toad posted off my parcel, the man came knocking....and I couldn't even remember what I had in the post. So now a quick convert to 240V and my mini studio will be ready to go. Thanks Red for the heads up and offer, and thanks Toad, for all your efforts to get this to me. It won't be forgotten. What more could you expect from 2 great members, and guess who were the Member and Rookie of the year? These sort of gestures are so regularly seen, from all amongst the membership.....It is truly what differentiates this place from the rest. Thanks guys, Offshore
  17. Normally my super competitive nature, would have me lodging a protest with the judges over "voting irregularities" or some other such nonsense; however to be beaten into 2nd place, by none other than "Dems", for the title of Crusty, is in fact a supreme honour. Congrats to all the winners, and specifically to Demsey, wear the title well, and with distinction. (Whew, escaped the "ole" and "vet" tags once again) Offshore
  18. I to, would love to see a new PAW. The old one/s never made it downunder, so we here would like to take it on a few travels and adventures. (And if one doesn't get here soon, I will be too old for titty bars) May I respectfully suggest, that whatever is chosen, has 2 basic tenants. First it needs to be on a strap, as continuous bracelet alterations won't be good for it, and I guess links and pins get lost; and 2nd it really needs to be a watch that will fly under the radar, as much as possible...it will need to undertake more than a few border crossings, so if it is ever inspected, it really doesn't need to say "Here I am" ( Sorry Jodie, that sort of slows the Rx down a bit) Aside from that, bring it on, looking forward to the travels of the PAW once more. PS Are we going to give it a "passport" again, or is that too much trouble? Offshore.
  19. I loved the spammer, who has jumped into the "Comments" box! Spam...it's everywhere. The writer has been doing a modicum of homework however, probably spent all of 10 minutes on one of the forums. O/S
  20. These are also available at www.watchbitz.com.au. along with many other quality and specialist tools. Offshore
  21. Sorry, I don't know the watch or movement. If you remove the stem, you will get a good idea if the movement will just come out, Normally the pushers are just working against levers on the movement, and are seperate. You can then investigate the seals on the pushers. Good Luck. O/S
  22. Certainly grease those whilst you have it down, and if they are dry, it's a pretty good bet that the stem and pushers will be dry as well. Just because one was reviewed as good, doesn't mean the next has even been touched! So probably a good idea to have a look at those others and grease as necessary. Then test it! O/S
  23. Well they DIDN'T pull it! So someone has a $3750.00 headache! Either the seller or the buyer! Amazing,........ just goes to show the mentality prevailing at fleabay! O/S
