Couldn't agree more J! Having been around these parts for 7 years or so, I have seen more than a few come and go. Yet my journey too feels like it began yesterday. Every day I am amazed at the quality of member we have, and the information they give us for nothing. Then we have the hit & run guys,... a bit like their first time..."This won't hurt...did it? We know we have some wonderful information, it doesn't cost... but please don't try to steal the family jewels as you leave.! Bye Oren...see you on the other side. Offshore

How do you change a mineral crystal?
offshore replied to Slartibartfast's topic in General Discussion
If you are going to glue it in place, use a UV glue. Loctite 358 is excellent. @slartibartfast. Typically mineral come available in .01mm increments (at worst .05) If you refit using UV glue, you will find you can get away with up to a .05 tolerance, so as long as your supplier has a reasonable selection, you should be sweet. @ Lani, I have a range of presses landing in the next 24 hours, including one similar to the Horo screw down and also their lever styles. Am busting a gut to get this web site finished...not looong I hope. O/S PS If you can get a copy of the "Watch Crystal Encyclopedia" from Florida Watch and Jewel, (Norman Helfand), all your questions and more will be answered. It is only about $12-$15 from memory, and is the "bible" on crystals. Essential reading. -
I have never seen a tool available that gives this sort of report?. Where, what, how, why? More information PLEASE. As an aside....My god!...if a potential buyer......(and I hope after all the negative vibes generated here- we don't have one) .....ever had the opportunity to see that sort of reporting....they would be running a mile! Really makes you think about exactly how fleabay view their buyers, in relation to the levels of protection offered to their sellers ( the source of their income!!) no wonder it is so hard, to even institute a charge back! I'll bet freddy jumps in on this, to stick up for this wonderful seller, as I know he holds him in such high esteem Offshore

Need Advice on EMS Tracking Problem from Well-Regarded Merchant
offshore replied to solicitor's topic in General Discussion
I have just had the reverse experience, in the last 24 hours. Some goods were collected by EMS and within 2 hours showed in their tracking! They have now sat around with no further movement, however at least I know they are "in the system" So there are all sorts of variables!! Offshore -

What is the proper procedure for installing/reinstalling crystal
offshore replied to jmb's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
No, not that sophisticated I'm afraid. His business is Florida Watch and Jewelers Supply. I think a few here have dealt with him for crystals. Norman Helfand.I can't find a web link but there was one at one time.He had traded on ebay, but can't find that link either. Re glue, I use Loctite 358, works a charm. O/S -
What is the proper procedure for installing/reinstalling crystal
offshore replied to jmb's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
A few years back, I talked about a book I got hold of, called "The Watch Crystal Encyclopedia"..the author is Norman Helfand. It is put out by a shop in Florida, and is most instructive. Runs about 80 pages, and covers a multitude of topics including remove and install. Once read, we better understand that there are many different scenarios, and sometimes not one "right way" but a number of alternatives. I think this may help this discussion, and recommend that anyone wanting to get a better view of this subject, should chase a copy down. It was only like $16 or something, and worth 10X the price. Toad, At different times, I have used seafreight to overcome shipping costs on bulkier items. Now my residence is a bit further away than the UK is from Canada, however I have had a couple of occasions when shipping has run out to 16 weeks. So possibly all is not yet lost. The other thing which can be said of seamail, if we generalise, is that it is very unreliable. Twelve weeks is starting to push the limits of patience however. O/S

Help with sea water leakage, and being in the middle of nowhere
offshore replied to a topic in General Discussion
In fact Dems, "One dip" is for the balance. Actually a seperate procedure. Swish and Dip are a combination of a cleaner, and a rinse. See here http://www.agtshop.co.uk/acatalog/Watch_Cleaning.html You would use any of the cleaners, plus the "Solo Lube" rinse to do a swish and dip! ( I know, I'm home brewing the stuff!) (Solo lube is the biggest seller!!!) O/S -
Help with sea water leakage, and being in the middle of nowhere
offshore replied to a topic in General Discussion
Hmmm, I've never contemplated this one before. My gut reaction, is to flush it with fresh water first (obviously somehow protect the dial/hands), redry it, and then hit it with WD40. (Or a soluable oil if it was available) If you could decase the movement, I would maybe even immerse it in soluable oil until you got home. Be interested in others "cures" Offshore -
Not guilty your honor! Should've but! It was an offense against humanity that thing. Rep or real. Even jf420 would disown it!

Whilst on one of my surfing expeditions, I came across this bundle of joy! http://www.esslinger...atchrepair.aspx Gee, most questions on routine maintenance and then some, are given some space in this volume. Gotta be something for the newer, and not so new members inside this compilation. Offshore
