This is an early one Ken.(Maybe 1970's- I'll go and research the model/serial/movement now) Just in nice condition. Bulova auto movement. I actually got it in for a service,(which it desperately needs) and the client baulked at spending $175.00 for same. So I'm hoping to pick it up for the above sorts of numbers. Must have a search and see what can be found in a gold bracelet to match. (It came on an aftermarket leather strap, which is a throw a way) Case, crystal and dial are all in perfect condition however. Offshore

I have a client, who owns a solid 14ct yellow gold Bulova, auto. He wants to sell, and has offered it to me. Nice watch, mint condition, gold face with "diamond" indices. Now I am stuck on trying to arrive at a figure for it. I yesterday looked at the gold price, and referenced it by the case weight (15.4 gm) I am told that scrap gold should value around 60% of bullion, so applied a 60% margin. This worked out close enough to A$250.00. So I reckon the movement, and the fact it is a going watch in mint condition, (it will require a service) must be worth at least a further $50! ( Needs a new strap or bracelet if I could find one) Am I being too tough at a $300 hit up? I am after all the buyer here. But would be interested in the views of the members. Offshore

Having managed a fiberglass supply company, I couldn't agree more. UV has to be the way to go here. The only issue is it is pretty viscous. An interesting experiment would be to mix the lume powder, and see if UV still catalysed it. (May even thicken it up a bit) All the base epoxies, and polyesters, (even clear casting resin) will yellow with time. There are some specialist epoxy formulators who could solve this, however the volume is so limited, it will need to be an "off the shelf". I have a close mate still in the industry whose company builds epoxies,.... I'll ask the question. O/S

I thought I might run this request here, before I take it to the commercial forums. Desperately seeking an IT person who has a working knowledge of Cube Cart V4. Have a 95% completed web site/shopping cart, with a few issues prior to going live. Need an experienced IT wizard, to wave a magic wand. If there is anyone here, with a few spare hours, who is seeking a little pocket money (or a lot), please give me a PM. It WILL be worth your while. With the expertise around this place, I'm hoping someone can step up. Thanks guys, Offshore

And I'll bet the rep makers already have it on the drawing board, (albeit with a conventional movement) May not prove that easy tho! bit like the "Freak" O/S

Don't use too much...just a very light smear....just make the O ring surface appear moist, not have viewable grease globs present. O/S

What tools needed to regulate some watches
offshore replied to hypeiv's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
It will surprise you to know, that the original TYMC items have now been copied! So there are varying qualities available of these. We are aiming to only carry top class equipment, and right now, a gen TYMC unit is considerably dearer than the reps. ( It is a far better unit however) And the reps have a chequered performance history! ( sounds familiar) Interestingly, I had a lengthy discussion just last night, with my man on the ground, about this very subject. With the $$ moving, & the Chinese chasing it, the price of one of the "good" units, means we would be smashed in our offer price, by the clones. (again sounds familiar) So last night, I declined an offer of some products.... we also have to factor the "Minimum Order Quantity" here. The only really useful model, (must have amplitude) would have to sell close to or upwards of U$700, and I struggle to see how I can outlay the ( not inconsiderable) $$ to buy a bunch, right now. So, not right now, we will continue to monitor whether the clones can offer better performance, or the "gen" makers can build a better mousetrap, cheaper! I can always get one for those who want the best, but we are making decisions about many items we will offer, and are excluding lesser quality lines. Anything can be sourced, we just won't offer or sell inferior lines. Offshore -
Sorry I'd not have anything. All mine in the main are GS acrylic. Sapphire will not be easy, in fact almost impossible, for a "stock" crystal. It would have to be a build, and that then means quantity. Unless there are some around from the 1st build, or a latter one which improved on it?? I think chances are slim. Talk to the original dealer of that watch, and see if you can pinpoint something. O/S

If you can track down, my travelogue of my recent excursion to GZ, you will see a shot of the "offices" area. (Where the bigger operators "play") A lot of smaller dealers, work from home, and visit the markets daily to collect their stock. As a side note, since I returned from GZ, I have had contact with a couple of people who work "inside" the industry, who have told me that what I reported, was the closest they had seen to the "real" truth about the GZ industry. (And apparently it rubbed a few the wrong way as well....Bad luck, I tells it as I sees it!) I think you would need a few weeks or months, "on the ground" to really get the full picture ( if ever) as it seems to change regularly. (A bit like life actually) Offshore

What tools needed to regulate some watches

Hi, One of those merchants just happens to be me! I am Watch Bitz, when I put on my suppliers hat! I have been talking with my guy in China about this very subject, and we are putting together a kit right now,.All top quality tools, it will have- 1) 1 X Dust blower 2) 2 X Venus tweezers 3) Screwdriver set- 5 pieces, The best one going around, bar none. 4) Pin remover cw/ block, or maybe a pin pusher, still to be decided. 5) 1 X good hammer 6) ! X 4x loupe - Japanese, with wire attachment 7) 1 X Jaxa Pro caseback tool. 8 1 X Dust cover. 9) 1 X movement holder. 10) 1 X watch caseholder. All supplied in a carry pouch. We are also contemplating including a metal cleaner/refurbisher, and maybe a sapphire polishing kit, and Polywatch for acrylic polishing. Our target price for this is somewhere around U$60.00 and we are still to make a couple of decisions to achieve this. However we will get moving now, and see how quickly it can be put together. I'm guessing 3-4 weeks before they are available. I stress that these will all be top quality items, which will be useable for many years. Will keep you and the members updated on this project. Yep, it's a nice little neighbourhood we've got here! Nice to hear. Offshore

What tools needed to regulate some watches
offshore replied to hypeiv's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Well you are on the right track as far as the type of tools which may be required, however I think you may find the quality of some of those tools a little low. A 1/2 way decent screwdriver set costs more than that kit, and the Jaxa style opener comes in about 20 different grades....I would suspect that one to be at the lower end of the scale. I think just about everyone who starts to learn the basics of repair, starts with something like these, and soon find how inadequate they are and upgrade (maybe 2 or 3 times) to better quality tools. How the hell do you remove the crystal/bezel from a SFSO
offshore replied to triplehd's topic in The Breitling Area
@Avitt, I'm pretty sure it is. Have actually just asked for some photos, prior to its arrival. This guy who is sourcing a lot of my tools is a bit of a perfectionist, and won't stand for poor quality in anything. If it is the one, mine will be about 1/2 that! O/S -

FWIW, I have a sample of new bezel tool en route from China now.( for my own bench) A watchmaker friend in HK has recommended it to me as the best one around. They are even used by a couple of Rolex AD's I'm told. I suspect it is similar to this item pictured here. Won't be cheap; I'm told it has high quality s/s "wedge" blades, and is exceptionally well engineered. Should see it within the week, so I will do a review when it arrives. ( Have bought 1 other for stock if anyone just has to have one of these) Offshore
