  1. Never even seen white Tac But you would guess the oils would still be there. The yellow tape I have used is P/N AT200Y, and sells for about $7.00 for 25m! So you get a lifetime supply for you and your mates in 1 roll! I do still think Rodico is a better product, and it really is not dear, so better to use a purpose made product IMHO. I had just happened to have some vac bag tape at work and tried a metre. Offshore
  2. Hmmm, Well I just searched here. "Parts Canada" and came up with this. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...hl=parts+canada Yes...there is a mountain of info here...you just have to find it....sort of like googling really. Offshore
  3. In Canada, worth a look. http://www.somalcanada.com/ There are many other parts/tools suppliers, Cas Ker, Widget Supply, Livesays, Sheely, Shor, et etc. Google watch tools, or watch parts...you will find hours of reading. @Tee Jay, Blu Tac has more oils in it, and can leave stains on dials. I have used a product which is a tape for fixing down vacuum bag in fibreglassing ( yellow in colour) as a Rodico replacement. Offshore
  4. From OS10 setting instructions- http://www.citizen.co.jp/miyota_mvt/download/index.html I see you are saying "minute" hand- Are we getting our terminology mixed here? If it indeed is the small top chrono hand, you will need to actually remove and reposition the hand. It has been fitted out of location. Hope this helps. Offshore
  5. You know Col, I read her feedback, and actually believe the story! Like you, I am normally sceptical on these claims, but this one rings true. Will be interesting to see where it goes, I may even have a snipe at it at the end. O/S
  6. I agree, this is a great concept. Get some ideas together on what watch will be built, and I will have a hunt for some bits. Offshore
  7. This posted on ebay Oz tonite. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VINTAGE-1950S-ROLEX...:1|293:1|294:50 That is $400 Australian- around U$350. Be interesting to see if it gets bid up much, but would be nice buying at those $$. Sounds like a gold case as well. "Hallmarks" And I'm sure we could find a new cyclops for it. (Did they have cyclops?) Offshore
  8. @yodap, I have seen different versions of these movements. Some have an instant change at 2400, and these obviously are not a problem. Some take quite some time to cycle thru the date change, and it is these that you need to be careful with. Maybe some are Chinese copies JK. Offshore
  9. @Packard, I don't for a moment dispute your postings. However my understanding of "plated" vs "wrapped" is that plated is gold applied electrolytically, where "wrapped" is indeed thin leaf, applied with (intense) heat. I have worked with gold/ other metal/ electroplating, and have used both pen plating, and dip plating techniques. (which offers far superior results). However I have never been able to get my head around the process of truly identifying the substrate. As different techniques are required ...both in cleaning (which is the basis for good plating), and indeed in application, I have found that the long term plating companies, who have built up years of experience, can always seem to finally achieve results way beyond my amateur efforts. I had purchased a pen plating kit (Caswell) and "played" with it for a year or two. I then spent time with an owner of a company who, on a daily basis, plated many items. He was always able to identify and plate far more efficiently than I could ever hope. Finally when I realised that his charges were not a lot more than my cost, I gave in, and now send cleaned parts or cases directly to him, whenever I am asked for plating services. He does offer "wrapped" which offers a micron thickness, and the cost is around 50% above dip plated items. FWIW, the costs I am quoted, or would need to charge to plate a watch, effectively rule out cosmetic repairs, unless we are dealing with a gen, which is valued above (at least) $1k! Some observations, from my small knowledge base. Offshore
  10. So Mark Webber finally got the result he has so much cherished. Listen to his slow down lap celebration- http://mp3.news.com.au/hwt/audio/webber_celebrates.mp3 Is that a happy man or what? He really has shown the true Aussie battler spirit- http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,2...363-661,00.html More power to the man. Offshore
  11. Gotta believe that! Wine...women.......(women)....(women)....and......women Great philosophy however, and i hope you are lucky enough to get over the line! And you are right, the Raffle Meister misses nothing! O/S
  12. We are soon to have an upgrade, and some parts of the forum aren't working to full power! Hang in with us until the upgrade goes thru, then we hope it will all be back to speed. O/S
  13. Can assure you, that Japanese quartz are viewed as better than average. ( Miyota- Seiko et al) Probably only Swiss....ETA and the like, are superior. The good thing is that you can get most replacements for under $20, although some of the chronos will run a bit more. Offshore
  14. @V, Mate, Can assure you, that if the admin team were allowed into this, it would be WELL oversubscribed. (Wanna buy me one (or two) -under the table, and not tell anyone ) Offshore
  15. That is a quite OK movement.- Miyota. One thing to be aware of, is to not try to change the date, around midnight. Once the movement starts to enter date change mode, (and they do this at different levels, dependent on the series), you do not touch the settings. You WILL damage the internals, to the point of replacing the movement. Best not to try to date change between 2100 and 0300. Offshore
  16. Check this seller, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VINTAGE-ROLEX-MOVEM...:1|293:1|294:50 Also check his other items....has a bunch of Rx movements. May be something in there for a modder. Offshore
  17. Nanug, Best you make your popsickle an icicle, and snap it off! Tis well known that Miss U prefers draught to bottled! Me fears it is hunting time in the far north. Offshore
  18. Start of Day 5, England need to last, but have already lost 2 wickets this morning....4 for not a lot! Gotta think the Aussies will go 1 up later today. O/S
  19. Stumps on day 3 and the Aussies are in the lead and only 5 down. Should build a substantial lead on day 4, but will there be enough time? A draw is on the cards. O/S
  20. @Francisco, Does the ETA part interchange into an Asian movement? O/S
  21. @L, My friend, I haven't bought a rep in maybe 5 years, but this looks like one tasty morsel. Aided by a tidy win on lotto last nite, I may be tempted when these hit the market. Better book in for Chiefs next run as well Offshore
  22. Stumps on day 2, and the ascendancy is firmly with the Aussies. Well done guys! Looks like we will need to be well past the Poms total, on what will be a deteriorating pitch. 9 wickets in hand certainly has a nice ring to it. O/S
  23. The Admin team are happy to advise that we have added another collector to our list. WBK Time comes to us with an enviable record of supply. So we hope you all find some interesting pieces in his offerings, which will be posted over the coming days. Welcome aboard. Offshore
  24. Gotta jump in here, and say that this thread is a wonderful example of what this place is all about. The collective gaining of information and problem solving, with multiple members contributing, is one reason your admin team continue to work to provide this place. Good stuff guys, it's this sort of thing which takes us from strength to strength. Great community effort. Offshore
  25. Overnight, the contest was about square. 1st session today belonged to the Poms, although the Aussies have hit back as lunch comes around. This will be an enthralling few days. (For those who are inclined ) O/S
