  1. D, If it is any consolation, one of your old DW Valjoux 72's has been to Ziggy's spa, now has a Phong thin font bezel and a gen bracelet. And if I ever even consider selling it, you will be the first to know.
  2. My first G.Genta was a gen Omega Double Eagle Chrono, possibly my favorite dial, but the bracelet is integral to the case and just doesn't sit right on my wrist. My MBW PP Nautilus is a gorgeous watch, fits under a dress shirt cuff perfectly and I could wear it anywhere and never be called out. Comfortable and classy. Just a little to prissy and I seldom wear my good suits (the brands that say a PP is completely appropriate) anymore. My MBW APROO was my favorite watch when I first got it. Daily beater for several months, even considered buying a used gen. Then the economic downturn "touched" me like a 2x4 so the gen idea vaporized and the seconds @ 9 issue for the MBW started to bug me. Had to have the HBB with all the chatter on the board, wore it 3 times, try it on every week or two but never wear it. I keep hoping that my feelings will change, but doubt that they will. The first reasonable offer for any of them without the hassles of listing and they are most likely gone. Also I basically decided that I love my Rollies and IWC's, between them is 80% wrist time.
  3. +1 for Ztech's comments Where and when will these be available? I want one!
  4. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and on having already "worked out" the other details. And secondarily, really sweet watch!
  5. Speaking of Patek, if you buy a watch just to have "the label", a rep of that brand is a very sad possession. Worse than going to bed with a picture of Halle Berry. Speaking of Genta, I love the look of a G. Genta designed watch. I own several, never wear any of them. Go figure.
  6. Out of the box? Got to be BK WM9 YachtMaster; just be sure to ask for the REAL PLATINUM insert (small upcharge).
  7. BT, I need to swear off your photos, too damned expensive. Nicely done as always
  8. "i had to read this a few times...spending less cash in the long run after time here reading and discussing is just not computing for me...anyone else?!... " I know what you mean R. I came to learn a little about a couple watches, now I have a couple dozen and looking to upgrade and acquire. @johnson99 - Welcome to the forum, read, learn, enjoy, contribute, and get out your wallet. And Puretime is fine.
  9. He has several AP's that he rotates- this on being the least expensive. I know for sure as a Cavalier insider. Respect the talent, not the man!
  10. All the white faced Explorer ii currently have gray surrounds. And the Incorrect/Wrong HS are a more reliable movement. The closest reps are the old school Noobfactory models that are no longer produced (still have gray surrounds); however these will accept gen dials if you can source one. The black dial models are extremely close, if BK still sells them he has excellent quality. I have one of each; also purchased a white with gen dial but it is most likely seized by customs because USPS has held it for 11 weeks at NY point of entry. Good luck, they are great watches and unless someone holds your white dial up close and personal, and they know exactly what to look for, they will never know and you will have a great watch for $200-300.
  11. Probably $190K retail for gen versions. Paid between $5-6K (about 1/3 was for my DW 6265 V72) for current collection. Add about $1200 for watches given away as gifts Throw in another $1400 for the sack of straps and bracelets. Add in my combined $ for servicing, lume, etc so another $1200. And a couple hundred for shipping and PP fees etc. Last but not least, hundreds of hours spent reading these forums and obsessing over what to get next and should I sell something (No). Wait, wait - the $ spent on my wife to compensate for my addiction - add $2-3K Oh my misspent youth
  12. As with your other posts under the sales topics, thanks for a job well done!
  13. I bought a Franken Explorer 2 White Gen Dial in April. Sent by experienced / reputable / long term member in good standing. USPS tracking says that it arrived 6 MAY 2010 at USPS NY. And I cann't get any further info. Any advice?
  14. I have the Dimodell Chronissima for a 3717, 22mm fis just fine purchased from www.thewatchprince.com
  15. Kewl, nothing like a well done vintage rep. It has a certain elegance that nothing else touches. Wear it with pride!
  16. My UPO has been really great for 18 months, but today I go to set the time and can not get it to advance. The date still sets and I can move the time in reverse (only did that about 1/4 turn) but can not advance time - stripped. Is this a crown-tube issue or keyless works problem, or something more? Is it worth playing with it myself as a first go round or does this join the procession to Ziggy? Thanks.
  17. What about the reps we trade among ourselves? What is the ratio of good (as described) versus bad (shall we just say "less than' described)?
  18. Agree and agree; so what happened to the feedback system that disappeared when the board went down? At least some some record of positive transactions. Personally, I just wait for bwhitesox, hikeUSA, hackR, eunomians, and a couple others to sell, don't even care what watch it is. And at this point I will eat a couple of my watches before I go thru the sale nightmare. And please give this baby a sticky.
  19. I appreciate the thoughtful responses and the insights. I hold common thoughts with much of what has been said, both here on on RG (same thread but very different responses). Since I already have the requisite Rollies, I guess I should be good for now. And I love my better reps, actually all my reps. It's just that my MBW AP ROO Black Themes has really hypnotized me. My son bought me a couple of those coffee table books on the history of watches and the AP history is just too cool. And the Genta designed watches are all favorites of mine regardless of brand. Just wish this baby was reasonably priced on the "preowned" market. OR It was repped with quality equal to my DW 6265 V72
  20. I have several gens, all prior to my rep addiction, all fairly common, mostly Rollies. I have about 30 reps (another dozen + have come and gone), many of which I would never have purchased as gens, for one reason or another. My tastes have changed and continue to change, last month's favorite gets little wrist time and something from the back of the box grabs my attention. Lately a couple favorites have been replaced with supermodded or franken versions. Love them alot, but cann't give up the need to throw on something different some days. But, the rotation is getting smaller, sort of like the bench rotation in the NBA finals. I know that I will keep about half of what I own just for the variety but I'm starting to feel the NEED to get "the real thing". 1. When do you decide to pull that trigger? 2. What watch did it for you? 3. Was it worth it?
  21. Freddy, I really enjoyed your posts when I was researching DW 6265 V72, just didn't realize that you had so many. Jeez - when it comes time to part with any of your children, please let me know.
  22. I do ... and worth every penny. (and then some) And come to think of it, more than a gen did when first introduced And I will re - ask (a'la Freddy333) why are the dial and hands not installed? You must have something reallllllllllly great lined up.
  23. My worst mistake was taking my first hit on a crack pipe, then finding out that there was a crack forum with other addicts willing to feed my addiction and tell stories about their addiction (they even take pictures of their drug induced fantasies and post them on this forum). My kids laugh at me (except my son who snuck a hit when I wasn't looking and now he is addicted), my wife has given up on me when I'm sitting with mouse - I mean pipe - in my hand. I'll never be the same. JW
  24. The one that she says that she likes best on me is the AP ROO, the one that she notices every time is the PP Nautilus Jumbo, the one she has appropriated is my blue dial Ziggified SOSF, the one she saw over my shoulder on a dealer website and had to have is a blinged out white full ceramic Chanel J12.
