  1. At that depth he was in an Atmospheric Diving Suit though, right? Would his watch even need to be rated to paddling pool depth? There are a few fugly watches I'm sure we'd all like to receive the full micro-implosion experience! My problem with expensive watches and diving is simply the expense. If it gets bashed or it falls off underwater (my tank fell off once without me noticing - I just looked around and assumed that my dive buddy was epileptic), it's really expensive. And everyone is using their dive computer for essential tasks these days anyway. That said, I know some folk do wear expensive watches for scuba diving - it's just a bit risky for my tastes. (I just wouldn't want to be worrying about it the whole time).
  2. I know Hamish well. Good to see an old friend on the forum.
  3. Wouldn't the pope be able to tell you? To answer: "What Nationality is this moo?" Charles is from Ecuador, but when they got knocked out in the second round of the World Cup he thought it would be nice for the hosts to get a look in. In other news.... And just a regular, normal cow
  4. Don't be coy - let's name names!!

Very interesting! How does this work?! @dadog: great work with X! I even have a spare X up my sleeve now - let's hope I can remember it by the time the letters come around! Will return with a watch (depending on which letter you're up to!) when I fob off work for a bit
  6. Cheered me up too! (And it has been one of those Mondays!)

  8. What watches!! Looks like it was great - thanks for the pics!!
  9. Just a wee addendum: The Ohio County link on the Snopes website says "Sexually Oriented Offender, victim: Child Female. File last modified 2006-01-30" And that's what I based my previous comments on. It seems looking around the internet though, that the victim was a nurse that works in his nursing home. He tugged on her skirt - he said to get her attention, she said for kicks. A bit rough? You decide.
  10. When do we get he update?! Have a good one!
  11. Amazing! I had presumed it was a seriously odd Halloween outfit to be honest. [/FUNNY MODE OFF] I know I'm (too?) empathetic - I can't imagine his life has been a breeze, that allegations stick because he looks weird (I don't know the facts, the allegation I presume must have been touching a girl, he was convicted with a 30 day jail sentence (plea bargain against a 10+yr sentence??) - there are a lot of factors involved that could have meant that was a raw deal; but we don't know that), I wonder if he has been a victim of harsh nurture over nature. What I mean is, the lynch mob's stereotype of the child molester may vary substantially from the more usual kind (i.e. respectable members of the community, they need respect to gain access and trust - and find it easier to avoid accusation). I'm writing without knowledge of these circumstances, of course. But poor bastard.... [/FUNNY MODE BACK ON] @retep: back off - that's my girl! Take it easy!
  12. It's tough when you fall in love with a watch and there isn't a rep!! I think the U-boat's look great. They're absolutely massive! I don't think I could pull off wearing one myself... Yes, maybe used is the way to go. Of course, Ebay is dodgy as hell, but if you've checked out that there aren't reps (or other cheaper similar-looking gens), you could be on to something.... Best of luck on finding that watch of your dreams!!
  13. That actually makes total sense! Still, if I ever bought my wife a watch that lovely, I'd hope she'd go out and buy the nurse outfit herself.... Have a good one!
  14. I never understand this "us" and "them" mentality that a lot of folk have between dealers and buyers on the forum. Surely dealers are members of this forum, part of the community, and entitled to their opinions too? I completely agree with what Usil said, for all that it matters. No need to flame him too.
  15. It sounds like you need the BIN! Just kidding! I don't think there's a rep of this watch. In another thread it was suggested by slpf that some of the Tauchmeister's range might be a decent cheaper alternative to the gen U-boat: Tauchmeister Best of luck!
  16. I appreciate the sentiment - I love the ocean, stingrays, scuba diving (although don't do it as often as I would like - not by a long shot), I'm not into hunting, and I'm a complete wuss at fishing - but I think that's a bit harsh. It's a fairly established fact that we exploit animals for food and their hides - and without getting into the whole hornets nest of vegetarianism - watch straps generally come from dead animals. What I mean is, somebody could then righteously complain about a dead cow every time that someone shows a picture of a watch with a leather strap.... @Birdman: very interesting strap. Certainly a talking point. This kind of leather has a reputation for being tough (the samurai used it for armour, others for sandpaper) - is it treated or handled in some way to make it softer? Or does it feel quite tough?
  17. My wife must never, ever come to read this! I have just spent HK$1,200 for her anniversary - and she's over the moon. It has taken me years to break her spirit....! Have a great stay in HK. Who doesn't love HK?! Cheers!
  18. Aaaargh! The schadenfreude must be pure entertainment!! The closer I think I'm getting, the further away I realise I am....witness my pain: I thought that the case had started life as a Chronograph, but that a new movement had been retrofitted by turning it upside down (that the original crown was on the left as we see it - but the now functional crown has been drilled through the case and added to the right as we see it). The face looks a bit like it has some Tudor heritage - a bit like a circa 1970's Tudor Oyster Prince Ranger caliber 2452. But it looks too new, and the hour and second hands are all wrong. And it doesn't say Tudor Oyster Prince Ranger on it. (So really close then). The rotating bezel looks like it came off a 1970's Tudor Submariner. Put that together and you have a whole bag of wrong. I am totally humped!!
