The DG3804 from Borel datewheel lines up on the right or outside, but is not wide enough. It is short on the inside, toward the pinion. Top and bottom are good.
-
I'll check the one from Borel and let you know.
-
Waiting is the worst part of ordering anything on line, and worse when the shipping is an insult.
-
That might explain a bunch. My issue with the loupe was about 3 weeks ago. I always phone my orders in. I called about the problem and talked to the older sounding woman I usually deal with. Could be the newbie messed it up. Check out Borel's price on DG2813 movements. They are very cheap at $13.25 each. Don't bother asking them or Frei anything technical about the Chinese DG movements, neither one knows, or cares to know. Borel lists the DG 3804 but not as a GMT movement. I asked, the 'specialist' had no clue. It was a GMT, I called back to tell him and he said he really didn't care. Much of this is on us to know, rather than the supplier who just knows part numbers.
-
I have made 'suggestions' to various suppliers to use USPS Priority mail rather than UPS or FedEx because of shipping costs. Priority Mail small box is $5.25 anywhere in the U.S., including Hawaii, while UPS is double that at least from LA to Chicago. Frei is one reluctant to change.

I have had only one problem with all my orders from Frei over the years. And that was handled quickly and easily when I asked what material a loupe was made of and the woman told me it was glass and it turned out to be plastic. They sent the glass Bausch & Lomb, credited the Donegan loupe and credited shipping both ways. However, for parts, I determine the part and number, and don't ask them to because I am usually building/repairing a rep. The crystals I've received in the past were OK quality, fit as I thought they would. In regards to Bob Frei, I think he is very cautious because of the rep business and how it could affect his supplier's attitude towards him if he's too open about it. He has a lot to lose if his suppliers cut him off for dealing with replica watches. I spoke directly with him about a business proposal that he ultimately turned down. But he was polite, clear about his business views, and no animosity at all. But for the last few years I buy crystals from Clark's because his quality is far better, IMHO. I also check with him first on any parts I need, including genuine. He has some genuine parts occasionally. And Clark's is rep friendly. I arranged to set him up as a 'Trusted Dealer' on RWG 1.1. I think he should be here as well, if he's not already.

You made a wise decision. RolexAddict is a very good man.

The crystal is glued in, no retaining ring.

1. Read Donerix's modding of the PT case to reduce the 'wokkiness'. http://www.rwg.cc/to...l__6542__st__20 2. I think you can get a much more accurate insert for $100 less than NDTrading. http://www.rwg.cc/to...__fromsearch__1 3. The PT dial might be a good one with a better lume job. 4. Clark's 25-116 is very good. 5. Ken at Raffles Time has the replica 6mm Brevet '+' crown and tube. Just make certain to tell him you need the 3.0 threads to the case. http://www.rwg.cc/to...__fromsearch__1 I think JMB can help you with the overlay. Oh, and one more thing, in regards to the movement. Have it serviced. I have been told by a very reliable source that the ETA 2846-2 used in this watch is a genuine Swiss, but a used one refurbished with some Chinese parts. That makes it a really good deal, and easily serviceable.

Damnit! I'm a cheap bastard, and that hurts!! I'll check them out. I'm thinking about pushing my luck and converting a 2846 to GMT. Being sane isn't all it's cracked up to be...

Now when you're feelin' low and the Sub ain't right You need a little bit o' soul to put you right You gotta mod that watch and kneel and pray And then a little bit of soul will come your way Now when the shiny is gone and it's broke in two You need a little bit o' soul to see you through And when you raise a wrist with your rock'n'roll You'll get a lot more kicks with a little bit o' soul And when your new watch fails 'cause ain't nobody groovin' A little bit o' soul and it really starts movin', yeah And when it's in a mess and you feel like cryin' Just remember this RWG is fine And as you go through mods tryin' to reach your goal Just remember what I said about a little bit o'soul A little bit o' soul, yeah (a little bit o' soul)

Just an interesting, to me anyway, update on the movement. After the minor 'surgery' and assembly, I gave the watch about 25 winds and set it. That was Wednesday night at about 10:30 P.M., and I set it on my desk. I wore it yesterday afternoon for a little less than 3 hours, and as of noon today it's still running. That's a nice reserve. And, with no adjustment at all, it has maintained time perfectly. No gain or loss of even 1 second. This is my first ETA 2846-2, I bought it from Smith's Supply House in California http://www.smithsupp...eta28swau6.html because they had a good price. It looks new and genuine, but the rotor was an engraved 'Bulova'. It could be NOS or rebuilt, but I have no idea. I can't recommend the supplier as they overcharged me on shipping, I complained and got a credit, and it looks as though they made an unauthorized charge on my credit card with a dating service and a foreign exchange fee. That's still being investigated, but the charge happened at the same time of my transaction. The owner is very defensive from the go, and difficult to reason with. He uses Yahoo Business and blames everything on them, and refused to talk to them to straighten it all out. My credit card company handled it, so no loss to me other than the aggravation. With all that I wasn't expecting the movement to work so well, and knowing I was going to modify it meant I couldn't return it. All in all, I think I got very lucky.

'Knock-off' does.

I like being able to build a 6542 or 6204 and know the hand stack is right and crown guards are perfect...

Yep, it hearkens back to the days when men were men...when we measured days by the stubble of our beard, and knew the time by the Sun...When women were women and no surprise packages from the hookers...When children were seen and not heard and showed respect (OK, enough. I just about choked on that one!)

That depends on how 'vintage' you want to go. The 16710 'retro' from Josh is very good out of the box. -
I'll leave those suggestions to the Submariner experts.

I toldja so, I toldja so!! Well done!! OK, now that you've mastered the pearl, it's time to start modding the case...then next up is to service the movement and ...

I'm no watchmaker, but I keep getting into these movements more and more. I've successfully re-set keyless works in ETA and DG movements now, and removed and replaced date wheels. Easy stuff for the knowledgeable, scary for me. I had seen your pics a while ago, so last night I went by memory. I guessed at what needed to be removed for the day and date functions, and then I removed the keyless works cover. I then pushed and pulled the stem to see it work, and guessed it was the middle 'bump' that had to be smoothed out. My tiniest file was still too big so I took a piece of 400 grit sandpaper, folded it and went to work. It took a while, but I did it! Then I decided, being on a roll, that I'd remove the hacking lever. That too was really easy, seemed too easy. All that and the movement still works! I amazed myself! So, my 6204 Submariner is now a slow beat, two position no hack watch! Thank you!

Checked the archives, looks like stilty did it but the pics are all gone. I have a full dress ETA 2846-2 21 jewel that I want to strip down to a no day, no date and two position set. Anyone have any pics on what should be removed, what needs to stay and which little bump in the set lever is ground down?

We would need to see pictures of which rep bracelet you have, and the width of it too.

gonna make my own pearl for my Trevor time submariner ceramic
JoeyB replied to alifizan's topic in The Rolex Area
I think your suggestion is a great one for those who need a pearl for newer watches. His ceramic probably needs to be whiter than my vintage.
