  1. It might be regionalized in the U.S. too. In the Chicago area Two-tone and all gold Rolex on appropriate leather straps seem to be the most prominent right now. I see a lot of Panerai too.
  2. I clicked your link and then replied. It stayed on this thread. My apologies for adding to the hijacking of the thread. I tried not to.
  3. That is a military assessment, not a political one. You hijacked this thread in your reply #40 with your politics. I don't think that is appropriate, and should be taken elsewhere. I completely disagree with your position and your conclusion. I prefer factual history instead.
  4. You are mistaken. There was no "dotcom crash", it's bigger than ever. And it is fact that Clinton left a budget surplus that was to pay down the National Debt by 2006. Bush gave that surplus away when he had his first recession. Then Bush's de-regulations brought about the Enron scandal, the loss of people's pensions plans, the mishandling of the mission in Afghanistan and the complete waste of brave soldiers and $billions in Iraq and Afghanistan. The "job creators" have created no jobs with the tax cuts Bush gave them. To ignore that fact is absurd. REGULATIONS would limit any who wish to move to "climates more favorable" than supporting their own Nation. The LAST thing we need do is to cut spending, the wealthy are not spending but instead hoarding their money. That's what fuels a recession into a depression. It is absurd to cut spending when the wealthy are sitting on their money. It is ridiculous to cut jobs when unemployment is high. It is insane to cut taxes when we have funding shortfalls brought about by the very ones who want to cut everything. A national sales tax is completely unfair to the poor. All you list would enable the conservative Republicans to finish the job they began under Bush, and bring us into complete collapse, a depression. But this isn't the place to discuss such things. You might want to keep your political posts to another section.
  5. The tax rates were cut in 2001 and we de-regulated business, but no increase in jobs happened, in fact it led to a crash. We had record low unemployment in the `90s with higher taxes, regulations that had been in place since the early 1930s, and a budget surplus that was designated to pay off our entire National Debt by 2006. I think that by taxing the wealthy more it makes them hungry to replace that money, and in turn do more business. That means employing more, manufacturing more, selling more. The wealthy are the ones who know how to make money, they've proved that. Let them do what they do best, and what they have done every time their tax rates were higher.
  6. ETA 28XX movements take 90/150/25 hands. If Clark's are not fitting right, let him know. He is a stellar guy, will make it right, and would want to know if his supplier made or marked them wrong.
  7. When I came to the forums years ago I wanted a 16710 GMT rep with a swiss movement, and the black/red 'Coke' insert on the oyster bracelet. I did not like the 'Pepsi' blue and red or the Jubilee, it was too flashy for my tastes. I still love my 16710, but for more than a year this is my favorite and everyday watch.
  8. I would think that most were wearing their 'work' watch, Two-tone Date Just on fine leather straps. Maybe a Daytona for the flashy guy. The General wore likely a GMT, or maybe a Submariner. And the one 'special' was a vintage Rolex.
  9. It is my understanding that there were several Tropic 19 styles. Clark's has the sharp edge and a soft edge that I got from him:
  10. According to GMT Master History the etched crown @6 started in 2003. http://www.gmtmasterhistory.com/gmt-master_ref_16710.html Clark's 25-295C-2 is not etched.
  11. Much the same way as I made the small GMT 4th hand, piecing it together using low temperature solder paste, and finishing off with 1500 sandpaper. It takes practice, just as all this stuff does. I literally vaporized my 1st attempt. All the advice I can give is to go real slow and easy with the heat/torch. It's like making fine jewelry.
  12. Water-slide decals on Otto Frei blank dials, with lots of practice! Get a picture of the dial you want and use a photo program to size/color and tweak it as you want. Inkjet printers do not print white, so any lighter colors, such as the lettering on a black dial will print out quite opaque. So the dial surface will affect the lighter colors. For gilt dials I've been applying the decal to bare brass. And I've found that if scuffed up a bit with sandpaper, it gives a very 'gilty' look to it. I'd recommend using Krylon Crystal Clear® in gloss, satin or flat depending on the finish you want to seal the decal. The other sealers cause the ink to bleed a bit, but I've had no bleed with Krylon within 10 miutes of printing. I'd suggest a setting solution to apply the decal as they do really adhere much better. As with everything, there is a learning process, but it is really quite easy to do. I am a lousy photographer, so those pics don't do justice to the watches, and I'm still learning to lume a dial. On the GMT the insert is made with the decals too.
  13. Should they? Probably not, but they do - and more. The ETA dials in cartel type cases are running from 28.3mm - 28.5mm. In terms of accuracy, I they are passable, but I don't think any of them are really accurate. That's why I make my own.
  14. Wow! Amazing what you can find when the snow melts. They have Rolex watches just laying around in the weeds up there? No wonder Palin is so popular!
  15. I managed to get a gen dial to sit in my Silix case 6542, but it does just barely make it.
  16. So you go back and delete the clip, and try to start a fight with two people in this thread?? What is WRONG with YOU????
  17. Yep, Silix and the cartels take the 28.5mm dial, which is not a problem, I can make that dial. As pointed out, the lugs can be taken down some, and a bevel put to it. I'm wondering how the bezel is mounted, and the crystal. Gen-like, or the spring? Gasket/ring or glue?
  18. No, the crown is sterile. The lugs look as thick to me as Yuki's do, both a bit thick. It is supposed to take an ETA 28XX movement. If it's close to my Silix case it could be something good.
  19. Thanks. That seems to be the only 'special tool' in the video as well. I'll try it.
