  1. I just made this one two days ago using the method RolexAddict outlined. One small drop of lume, then a nice drop of epoxy. I used a toothpick, and 5 minute epoxy which will give a more yellow color, but that's what I wanted for the vintage look. Don't be nervous. Just keep a bit of naptha or paint thinner handy if you mess anything up. It will remove the epoxy easily.
  2. So there is no gen crown tube that is under 4mm (about 3.8MM for a 5.3mm crown) on the crown end and 3mm on the case end?
  3. I love the gilt chapter ring dials. I think I'd go with an ETA 2846 for the slow beat. The Tudor handset fits either ETA movement. Would the cartel 1655 case that is being used for 1675 builds be the best bet? And being a cheap SOB, I would make the dial using a water-slide decal. JMB is making them too. Applied to a simple ETA blank dial, it would make the build much easier, and just about as designed with the 1655 case. You can control the degree of 'gilty' look, mine is high. Then it's just a matter of lume. As you can see, I'm still learning that!
  4. Will do, thanks. Also, does anyone know the case end and crown end measurements of the 24-5300, 24-5320 and 24-5330 tubes?
  5. I had that slipping with my gen 6mm crown on my 6542 and thought it was the movement too. Thanks to you and freddy, I will put the other 6mm + crown on and solve that issue. freddy, I have tried to take the crown apart but couldn't budge it. Is it on really tight and needs force? Right hand threads? Push in to turn??
  6. Sorry, you'll have to settle for my poor pics! Left and center are the two I turned down. The third is raw.
  7. Me too. I started my 38 year career when I took my oath in September 1970. My theory is that it's really 1980 and this is all part of a really good drunk I did last night...
  8. The best deal and least expensive 6mm Brevet '+' Crown I have seen in the last 2½ years was from Nanuq, and that was still more than I wanted to spend, and most are quite a bit more at $300 and up. So a few months ago I contacted some of our suppliers I've come to know to see if they could get one - and struck out. Then a couple of weeks ago Ken at Raffles Time contacted me and said my crowns were in. I said "What crowns??" and he said the 6mm Brevet crowns. Ken came through! Now, as with any replica there are some faults, but all in all I think they are pretty good. I made a few 'adjustments' and I think they are very good. The crown looks good from the front But the side view shows that they left it too wide CAUTION CAUTION: JMB (Justin) and any professional machinists should view the following at your own risk. Your skills could be in jeopardy and ruined for life! CAUTION So, I got the bright idea to take one and clamp it into my trusty rusty Dremel tool and shape it The inside was easy, but the outside needs care so as to not hit the emblems I 'eyeballed' it to width, and angled to match my gen 6mm line crown. I was concerned that I might go through and make a hole if it was made as an outer shell, but it seems to be solid, as the gens are. No problem. And so, no more '6204 'big crown'! The other issue is the crown tube. The crown is 6mm but fits a 5.3 tube, 3.8mm. The tube part that goes into the case is the smaller one, 2.2mm, I need the 2.9mm (approx). I had one that worked, but it is a rep tube. I'd really like to get a gen tube but have no idea what the part number would be, and I can't find measurements of the gens. If anyone knows, let me know. It's not perfect but I think quite serviceable, and at 10% of the going price it's damn nice! Let me know what you guys think. http://www.rafflesti...rown-for/Detail
  9. The epoxy is fine. I didn't know what color you needed, I've used the green. http://www.dickblick.com/products/palmer-glow-in-the-dark-luminous-paint/ From what I've read they have different colors including blue. I would suggest an art supply store, or online.
  10. Ya' gotta start sometime! I didn't start modding anything until about 2½ years ago. It helps if you already drink too much. Seriously, just keep a small amount of naptha and a rag right there. If you mess it up it will all wipe out no harm done. And the worst thing that could happen is that you wipe out the insert and have to buy a new one, as you plan to do now. Is it worth $10 to do it yourself and, if successful, be proud of your first mod? Only you can make that decision.
  11. Do you want it to be luminous, and what color? If green matches. go to your local hobby or art store. Buy a 5 oz. bottle of 'Glo-Paint', and buy a two part epoxy. The 5 minute variety will work, but you have to be aware that it will start to set within 5 minutes. Take equal parts of the epoxy, about a drop of each, on an old business card or similar. Add in about half a drop of the 'Glo-Paint' and using a toothpick mix thoroughly to a uniform color. Take a good sized drop of the mixture on the end of a clean toothpick, and insert the toothpick in the center of your pearl cup. Allow the mixture to drip in. It should bulge up slightly, and rounded. Check for and pop any air bubbles. Take the used toothpick and stick it in the remaining mixture on the card and wait until it hardens. Then you know it's all done. If you mess it up or simply don't like it use naptha/paint thinner to clean/remove the epoxy. Should be under $10, and you've got plenty for when you lose it again!
  12. It sold for $4500. P.T. Barnum would be proud.
  13. They wouldn't let me open it, but I'd bet it was a DG3804.
  14. My buddy's ex-brother-in-law is an excellent cook, and housekeeper. And he'd be happy to have lots of sex with you and anyone else, or everyone else. If you can wait a few more days his sentence will be served and arrangements can be made.
  15. For the GMT and Sub, 20mm width, 1.9mm body, 1.2mm ends.
  16. I have a tube that is supposed to be for the older style. It measures 2.9mm on the case end (it fits the cartel 16710 case) with an external gasket, and 3.9 on the crown end, which fits the 5.3mm crown I have. I don't know what Rolex part number is, but I'd sure like to.
  17. I thought the acrylic crystal for Rolex GMT 1675, 16750, 16753, 6542 is the 25-116. Using UV cement mine are watertight.
  18. That is correct. The 16750 changed the hand stack to having the hour hand mounted first, then GMT hand, as opposed to the 1675 and 6542 that had the GMT hand mounted first. So they had different size holes.
  19. The insert outside diameter measures about 37.6mm, so it would need some 'adapting'.
  20. I didn't see anything in the link about what size case it is, but it'll fit obviously if it's the same as Rolex plexi and insert. There is a bit of room on the inside diameter to open up for sapphire crystals.
  21. From what I've seen and read Rolex played fast and loose with many of their offerings. The perspex insert came in a number of variances during a relatively short run. Maybe it was just a 1950s experimental thing, or shortages after the war, but it seems they were not real consistent back then.
  22. Yep. It was a dig directed at me. Only someone completely stupid would not recognize that. Your reply would be an insult, if you could spell. Unfortunately it's just illiteracy. Have a nice day. OK.
