#1 looks to be a flat top to me; hard to tell on #2 given the reflections (if pressed, i'd say it is not a flat top). as to whether they are gen or not, i'll defer to the real experts here. deltatahoe

so i have my first mac computer (macbook pro) arriving tomorrow (assuming no shipping issues), and figured it would be silly not to tap into all of the knowledgeable people here to get suggestions on must have programs or things i should read (e.g. on macrumors, etc) to maximize the mac experience. stuff like "better touch tool" (http://blog.boastr.net/), which everyone seems to rave about. or other simple things that make life easier and/or improve the overall experience. i think i saw lanikai mention he just got an imac; lani if you're reading this i'd love to hear your initial thoughts and suggestions. anyways, thanks in advance for all the help deltatahoe

if you are at all into vintage rolex, this place is a mandatory stop on your trip: http://www.vintagewatchcompany.com deltatahoe

not sure about the markings, but this one looks a little too shiny to my eyes. it may just be the pictures, but the genuine breitling crocodile straps i've had have had a finish that was much less shiny than in your picture deltatahoe

thanks B. this one has been a long time coming. long before concepta began offering genuine iwc parts, i tried to have ziggy do the graphite treatment on one of these watches, and it was so poorly constructed he basically couldn't put the watch back together after taking it apart. so needless to say i'm pretty excited to finally have the watch in my hands deltatahoe

genuine movement and hands, as well as a double AR coating deltatahoe

Panerai 4B - My New Pride and Joys Part I

well put W fantastic watch; wear it well deltatahoe -
i received my concepta franken 3714 panda dial today, and i'm floored by the quality of the watch. i tried the genuine on last friday, and this watch has every bit of the feel of the genuine. one thing i will say for anyone considering purchasing one of these beauties, the double AR coating is a must. i'll try to take some pics this weekend, but in the meantime, here are some pics that concepta took for me before sending me the watch (i hope concepta doesn't mind me sharing them): i just ordered a watchboys gator strap (should have done that weeks ago); i can't wait to strap this one on! deltatahoe

i hate to say it, but your AD is pulling one over on you with his prices. click here and here for both those watches for $5k or less on paneristi. deltatahoe

not sure what models you're talking about -- aside from a couple rare or highly sought after pieces, the majority of pams depreciate out of the box just like any other brand. i will say though, i've been surprised at how well used pams maintain their value (i had a genuine pam 112 for 1.5 years and sold it for basically what i paid for it). deltatahoe

hi craig, i'm not super familiar with the different breguet models, but personally i would choose a breguet over a zenith. if you're looking for a watch that will hold its value and stand the test of time, a 16520 complete with box and papers is a solid choice (it also happens to be powered by a zenith movement). i'd say for your age, a big pilot or pam would probably be more "age appropriate", but that is pretty subjective -- i say wear what you like. so in summary, i don't can't go wrong with any of the above -- just depends on what criteria are more important to you. good luck with your choice; be sure to come back to this thread and post your final decision and some pics when you get the watch! deltatahoe

there is a great thread here about red subs, which is VERY informative about all the different versions, including details on how the f in feet should look for the various versions (it is different for different versions). one other thing to look at for these subs would be to see if the caseback is engraved with a date inside -- both the the quarter (i-iv) and the year (69) consistent with the serial number. i can't remember exactly when they stopped engraving the casebacks, but i'm almost 100% positive that a meters first red sub is from an era that should have an engraved caseback. hope this helps deltatahoe

personally, i've always tried to keep it at three watches or less per shipment. irrespective the fact that (as you said) our collectors will replaces watches snagged by customs, anything more than that just feels like you're risking too much on one package. so my suggestion: buy three watches at a time, and give yourself a couple weeks to enjoy them and see what you think about them before placing that next order. most people go on a buying tear when they first find this place and get access to the incredible hoard of amazing timepieces found here. inevitably, after a while you'll start honing in on what kinds of watches you really like (and find yourself wanting to wear day to day). at that point in time most people end up selling a bunch of watches they have bought along the way that don't get much wrist time. it's all part of the process, but to the extent you really think hard about your early purchases, i think you'll be happier in the end. one last concern about buying 10+ watches at once would be that customs could try to imply that you're dealing if you're importing 10+ watches at a time. and most certainly (as several individuals who have tried to deal from the U.S. have found) consequences of dealing in fake watches in the U.S. are very different than buying a fake watch and getting it snagged by customs. hope this helps. oh, and welcome to RWG deltatahoe

fwiw, you can filter the results to include just "posts" or just "topics" using the drop down menu that pops up on the top right of the page when you search "my content" (or someone else's content for that matter)... hope this helps deltatahoe ps, the thing i need to get off my chest? i don't like the new wink smiley i liked the one that actually winked

Need help identifying some Breitling dials please!

i'd be shocked if you could come up with a dial that members here couldn't identify. if you haven't noticed yet, we're an obsessed bunch deltatahoe -
Anyone Recently Bought a classic tri-compax Navitimer?
deltatahoe replied to R0NiN's topic in The Breitling Area
i think you're pretty safe buying from either joshua or andrew. between the two, it's just a personal preference question -- both provide a high level of service (both before and after purchase). i bought a 6-9-12 navitimer from joshua in the past year, and it turned out just fine deltatahoe -
Will our current big watches look dated 20 years from now?
deltatahoe replied to By-Tor's topic in General Discussion
i think there has been a steady, gradual trend towards bigger watches over the past 80+ years. it hasn't been cyclical at all, swinging back and forth between large and small watch trends. look at watches from back in the 20's and 30's -- they were tiny. things gradually got a little bigger until the late 50's, when the submariner hit the stage. and over the past 10+ years, things have taken a step up to a little bigger size. cynics have been saying for years that the end of the big watch trend will come to an end any minute. i may be in the minority here, but i just don't see it. even stodgy rolex is now upping the size of some of its most classic watches (deep sea = case in point). so i don't think we'll see a huge step backwards from 44mm watches, but certainly at some point the ridiculously large watches (u boat comes to mind) will fall out of fashion. the reality is that those watches dwarf most ordinary sized-person's wrist. personally, i think what will look "dated" in 10+ years are the more trendy, sporty watches. the brand extensions that just about every major brand has beyond their core "classic offerings" to capitalize on current fashion trends. i'm thinking of the breitling blacksteel, iwc costeau diver / aquatimer with yellow lume, all of the crazy AP ROO and hublot big bang variants, etc. it's a tough standard to hold a watch to, to look "relevant" 10-20 years later. tastes change. i think the watches that will continue to look good in 10-20 years will include each respective brands' "classic watches": rolex submariner, omega moon watch, breitling navitimer, iwc big pilot (most likely), etc. all pretty basic, simple designs. i think one very interesting (tough to make) prediction would be the value of a pam 127 ten years from now. it's anybody's guess. deltatahoe -
wow chief -- that is definitely really fascinating. gives a much better sense of what exactly they are dealing with... deltatahoe

there are a couple different variations available: on a bracelet, with ETA 2824 and with an asian movement. let me know if you end up going for it deltatahoe

interesting (and as you've said, not too surprising). i'm curious -- has anyone bought the cheaper new "ultimate" version? i've been holding out on buying it to hear a review of that version (along with waiting on the ploprof to combine an order). deltatahoe
