looks fantastic quick question -- what endlinks did you use to put the watch on the APBands hornback? did you buy the watch on a rep strap from the dealer? if so, did the endlinks provided fit with the APBands strap without any modification, or did you have to buy the APBands conversion kit? thanks in advance deltatahoe

for my personal home computing, i have been using a vintage (bought in 2002) ibm thinkpad for the last eight years, and am planning for the day when it inevitably dies (although it continues to go strong). i was holding out for the new update of apple's line of laptops before making any rash decisions. i've been reading on the macrumors forum for the last few months in anticipation of the update; a couple factors have gotten me all mixed up regarding what i should do for my home computing. first off, the introduction of the ipad forced me to really ask myself -- what are my computing needs at home (vs. work)? the more i reflected about it, the more i realized that i do very little "power" computing at home -- generally just surfing the web, looking at pictures i've taken (i'm getting more into photography), sending an odd email, etc. pretty basic stuff (which is why i have no issues with my 2002 thinkpad). one thing i am considering is to get an ipad and either an imac or a mac mini connected to my 50" plasma. that seemed like an interesting combination, but then the more i considered the ipad, the more the macbook air seemed like a much better option (portability benefits of the ipad, but with a full keyboard and computing ability), and potentially the perfect solution to my computing needs. one thing i found particularly interesting was that people say that the macbook air is a pure pleasure to use given how light it is in your lap. however, i'm not 100% sure about the smaller screen of the macbook air (my thinkpad is 15"); given i don't travel all that much any more and most of my computing is done on the couch, i wonder if i might enjoy the extra screen real estate of the 17 macbook pro. so the trade off between the extra screen real estate of the 17" macbook pro and the lightweight factor of the macbook air is one big factor i need to figure out. so at the end of the day, i'm all confused about what will best meet my personal computing needs, waivering between the following options: i) macbook air, ii) combination of the ipad and either an imac or a mac mini connected to my 50" plasma or iii) 17" macbook pro. and the update this tuesday just makes things worse -- i felt like it was a rather underwhelming update to the macbook pro line; the macbook air not getting an update was extremely disappointing to say the least. i'm holding out hope that they have something really special in the works for the macbook air that they will reveal at WWDC, but if i'm honest that is unlikely. anyways, i'd be curious to hear people's thoughts on my situation, what works best for you and why, etc. i'm always impressed with the knowledge and perspective of people here on RWG, so i figured might as well put this topic up and see what comes of it. all the best, deltatahoe

i'm the one that posted about the endlinks from joshua's "updated" vintage daytona bracelet -- they fit my dw 6263 perfectly. more info (including pictures and a link to joshua's watch) in my thread here. although it sounds some people have found that he is no longer willing to sell just the bracelet. can't hurt to ask though -- if you're a longtime customer i'll bet he will still do it for you hope this helps deltatahoe

W -- hopefully there wasn't any real damage (aside from the hassle of changing all your forum names). gonna be hard not to call you kruzer deltatahoe

a couple years ago i got lucky and won a really nice meters first 5513 vintage rolex for a song (i had several conversations with the seller and was able to get far more comfortable with the transaction than most -- his pictures weren't great). in the end it didn't really do it for me, so i sold it on TZ less than three months later for over $1k profit. other than that, my experience has been pretty mixed. you win some, you lose some, but generally it's tough to get a really good bargain on ebay. deltatahoe

Your First Rep.. Do you remember when?
deltatahoe replied to vafarmer70's topic in General Discussion
my first rep was a cheapie tag heuer i bought in high school: boy have things changed since then my first rep order after finding RWG was a pam 111 and a noobmariner (shocker!); i was absolutely floored by the quality when they arrived. and to be totally honest, i remember thinking: why would anybody pay for the real deal when these replicas are so good. boy have things changed since then deltatahoe -

go to both VRF and TZ and search for 1680; plenty of nice 1680s out there to be had. and if you're serious about getting a 1680 with box and papers, you're going to be hard pressed to find one for less than $5k (you'll probably need to pay closer to $6k to get one in decent condition with box and papers). if you're relatively new to vintage rolex, as jojo outlined in his response, there is a lot to consider before purchasing one of these watches. in addition to all the questions jojo raised, there is the bigger picture question of whether the various parts on a particular watch are the correct parts for the watch given its serial range, something most people new to vintage rolex will have a very hard time doing (heck even some of the most experienced vets get things wrong on this front). anyways, i guess my point is this: if you aren't familiar with any of the items jojo mentioned in his list, you would be well served to ask some additional questions about them before even thinking about buying a vintage rolex. good luck with your search; feel free to ask more questions here -- i think you'll be pleased with people's willingness to help all the best deltatahoe

i say pick whichever one you like the most and go for it. and unless you have a large wrist, i'd plan on wearing the ROO on a strap -- with the bracelet these guys are particularly chunky. all the best deltatahoe

my goodness this has to be the most helpful "who has the best sub?" thread ever @falconeye, you definitely don't want a quartz submariner. buy an ETA-powered submariner from one of our trusted collectors; unless you have unreasonably high expectations of what a $200-300 replica watch should look and feel like, you won't be disappointed. all the best deltatahoe

congrats & best of luck to the all-stars! deltatahoe

wow -- all fantastic pieces in there cc (and as you said, pretty much all highly modded). so just to be clear, none of these (except the gen pam 24g) remain in your collection? how about a post with what remains?! deltatahoe

+1 i think you'll be much better off selling on TZ, unless the AD you're looking to buy the new watch from his really hurting and willing to give you an inflated value to get you into a new watch. deltatahoe

well if it is any consolation, the big pilot rep is miles ahead of any 233 reps in terms of accuracy (particularly if you decide to double AR the crystal). there are just too many complications on the 233 (power reserve, date, gmt, night/day indicator; not to mention the domed single AR crystal and open caseback) for a decent rep to get anywhere close. just my $0.02 of course, deltatahoe

great to see a fun project like this between friends looking forward to the next phase of the project. perhaps a trip up north for a vintage tritium-style lume to get everything to match? regardless, great stuff ubi -- i know justasgood is going to be thrilled deltatahoe EDIT to add: i see the man himself replied just as i was writing my post; not surprising to see his response. great stuff guys.

yeah you don't see too many of the blue dial skylands around here. i had the grey and sold it (i just couldn't find a strap to wear it on that i liked enough to keep it in the collection). then i saw the blue dial skyland on that lovely OEM blue strap and the rest as they say is history. deltatahoe
