  1. i think this is the key -- appreciating a watch for what it is -- rep or gen. there are some reps that (even as a genuine owner; sometimes especially as a genuine owner) absolutely blow the mind as far as quality goes. speaking of which, i wonder how much longer i can hold out before picking up one of these ultimate DSSDs we've come a long way, that much is for certain deltatahoe
  2. well put crystalcranium we're a fortunate group to benefit from ziggy's incredible base of knowledge (not to mention the services he provides). deltatahoe
  3. congrats on a nice watch. as freddy said, i think a relume would cleary take the watch to a new level quick question re: the 8mm brevet big crown -- does davidsen offer these as spares? i didn't realize he had access to these. thanks in advance deltatahoe
  4. i'm late to the game on this one, but fantastic as usual i recently saw a similar watch (oyster version) for sale on VRF; thought you might enjoy seeing the pics (click me). congrats on a beautiful watch deltatahoe
  5. occaisionally when i have a screw that is stuck if i can manage to use a toothpick (or something similar) to push from the bottom while unscrewing the screw from the top, that will help. good luck deltatahoe
  6. wow -- great to hear marty. nothing better than a watch that screams quality (rep or genuine). deltatahoe
  7. could someone fill in this (clueless) old timer in on dingleberry? i'm assuming he's a former repgeek'er? regardless, welcome to RWG dingleberry deltatahoe
  8. yesiree in recent polls RWG is giving disneyland a run for its money as "the happiest place on earth" deltatahoe
  9. great news paul! thanks for the update; looking forward to having the finished project in hand deltatahoe
  10. fwiw, you could count me in on a group buy (assuming the price is reasonable) deltatahoe
  11. it definitely has my interest sparked. i won't be springing for the genuine parts version, but i will probably give this "created from a genuine" super rep version a shot. deltatahoe
  12. first off, welcome to RWG hojosan here's at least one answer your questions about tells & tricks: one quick way to tell for most reps is to unscrew the crown and wind the watch. given most all reps use asian movements (or at the very least a different movement than used in the genuine), there is generally a notable difference in how winding feels on a rep vs. the genuine. deltatahoe
  13. let's come at this a different way. personally my favorite classic pam is the 112. it has a sandwich dial, but does have see through caseback. the reps of this watch have an asian movement, but the 6497 movement is pretty simple -- i personally don't think you get much out of an upgrade to swiss. if i were you i'd buy one of these ($198 including shipping), send it to ziggy to be relumed and the cannon pin raised (~$150), and buy yourself a nice strap (~$150-200). that would be well within your price range of
  14. you've got it right scotty -- the genuine does NOT have a screw down crown. if you have access to a watchmaker, you should be able to fix your problem and make your watch more accurate by simply cutting the stem down to a shorter length deltatahoe
  15. couldn't agree more about the clean dial, which is a total breath of fresh air for breitling (which generally has the busiest dials on earth) deltatahoe
  16. i think the avenger seawolf is one of the more under-appreciated breitling reps. fantastic watch, and has a VERY genuine feel to it. particularly on a genuine strap wear it well deltatahoe
  17. wow -- now that's a wait good luck getting your strap deltatahoe EDIT to add: my last communication with him was back in may at his standard email address. sorry i can't be of any more help
  18. hi albert, first off, welcome to RWG my ears must have been burning b/c i've been pretty busy lately and haven't had much extra time to spend on RWG, and here i click on this thread and lanikai is giving a shout out to me. what are the chances?! anyways, i lived in SF for six years before moving to los angeles relatively recently; san francisco is such a great city. there have been a couple SF get togethers over the years; you should shoot a PM to promoterSF and get a group together for a night of dinner, drinks & watches -- it is a lot of fun getting to meet folks from this place and see a variety of watches in person. all the best with getting your collection started; feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any questions deltatahoe
  19. good stuff. let me know when you're ready to receive the balance & i'll go ahead and send payment thanks again for the new years eve update deltatahoe
  20. good luck; i've always thought that it must be hard for these new dealers to get new business. looking forward to hearing about your experience deltatahoe
  21. hahaha -- i'll take some of the crack that seller is smoking deltatahoe
