i'm definitely a jlc fan; as far as the reverso goes, i think the rectangle version is really the only way to go (therein lies the jlc reverso history) -- it is a classic dress watch look imho. while the recent larger square models (squadra) are perhaps a little more modern, i think in 10 years' time the classic rectangular reverso cases will still be the most sought after reverso models. that master compressor chrono is a beauty; not so sure about the memovox just my $0.02 of course deltatahoe

as others above has said, the bracelet definitely isn't going to work with a 6.5" wrist deltatahoe

aww shucks choosing five watches is really tough, so i decided to pick a favorite watch from each major brand. first my favorite panerai -- a ziggified 217 with chieftang single AR on europelli black shell cordovan w/ copper stitching. next up is my favorite breitling -- a relumed blue dial skyland avenger on a genuine blue breitling calf strap. it is a great casual watch; i think the genuine blue calf strap takes the whole watch to a different level. from omega, i chose my uPO with chieftang double AR on a genuine omega black rubber strap. i like this particular strap (which i have on an omega deployment buckle) twice as much as the standard PO rubber strap (which protrudes too much from the case for my liking), as i think it lends a classier look to the watch. while i knew nothing about iwc before joining RWG, it has become one of favorite watch brands. my favorite iwc rep is by far the 3717, which is an original first batch EL 3717, fully modded with double AR, ziggy relume and ETA datewheels. i put it on a hktan pilot strap, which i think sets the watch off nicely. i think the rolex submariner is probably THE most classic watch of all time. now as many of you know, i'm more of a vintage rolex guy. so when i decided a while ago that i wanted to buy a special watch as my birthyear watch (a watch made the year i was born), i chose a genuine vintage rolex 1680. so that is my favorite five; thanks for looking deltatahoe

i see the same "x icon" for fxrandy and mop above (ie. for platinum and VIP members), but normal members have a "member" banner that shows up fine. i'm running ie7 (no choice in the matter -- at work). deltatahoe

i received my ap royal oak jumbo today from paul, and i have to say, in the flesh the screws look great. sure, if you stick your nose on the crystal you can see a tiny bit of space between the edge of the screw and the case, but that is getting pretty nitpicky if you ask me. many thanks to paul for improving upon the great fit and finish of the mbw ap ro with the clean look of the stainless steel screws (not to mention the more accurate caseback) -- i know i'm a happy customer to anyone standing on the fence wondering if they should pull the trigger on one of the few that are still available, go for it i'll try to take some pictures this weekend and post a quick review deltatahoe

i'll be honest, i am pretty surprised to see all the references to the explorer i as being a top notch out of the box rep. i haven't heard much chatter on the forum about explorer i's, but then again it is a little small for my taste. would somebody mind providing a link to the versions you are referring to above? thanks in advance deltatahoe

welcome to RWG mike not familiar with the chronomat b01, but i'm sure if you do a quick search of the breitling section and our collectors' sections/sites, you'll find your answer my recommendation -- take a week of regular reading before buying your first watch. you'll be glad you did deltatahoe

i'll be honest, i'm not much of a tag heuer guy, but the aquaracer 500m is pretty sexy nice watch, nice pics & nice work on the relume deltatahoe

just wanted to chime in and say welcome to RWG; as dluddy mentioned, you're in good hands -- lots of folks here (who have already commented in this thread) with tons of experience building 6263s. i'll contribute one small piece of info -- you can pick up a good pair of 571 endlinks (genuine 571s are ridiculously expensive for a tiny piece of metal, not to mention difficult to source) that fit the dw 6263 case nicely from joshua for cheap; click here to see my thread on these (which were the final piece of my own 6263 puzzle). best of luck with your new project -- be sure to keep us updated as you make progress gathering parts, etc deltatahoe ps, i'm sure the members here would love to see some pictures of your collection (especially that patek -- there is something extra special about those family heirloom pieces) -- as you may have noticed, we're a little crazy about watches here

hi henrik, the letter corresponds to the year the watch was released. for example, the h in pam111h represents a watch built/original sold at retail in 2003 (or something like that -- i'm sure i've got my years wrong but you get the idea). deltatahoe

figured it would be interesting to start a thread to hear people's thoughts on the new ipad announced yesterday by apple. my favorite quote about the media feeding frenzy surrounding the ipad was from the wall street journal: "the last time there was this much excitement about a tablet, it had some commandments written on it." anyways, i've personally gone back and forth about whether or not this is something that i would use and enjoy. initially i was thinking the ipad could rework my thoughts on home computing. i've been expecting my laptop (an ibm thinkpad, which is now over six years old) to die on me any minute now (although it doesn't show any signs of failing -- still going strong). originally i was planning on getting a 17" macbook pro to replace my current laptop, but i was thinking the ipad could change that, substituting having just a laptop for a combination of either: i) imac + ipad or ii) mac mini connected to my 50" HDTV + ipad). my thinking is as follows: use the ipad when at home (ie. while watching tv) to browse the web, send quick emails, etc. when i need to do some real computing, i would use either the mac mini or imac. then when traveling, i could bring the ipad instead of a macbook pro to enjoy watching movies, reading books, listening to music, etc. the thing that i can hardly believe is (from what i've read at least) the complete lack of multitasking. the idea that i couldn't listen to music from the ipad while reading a book is downright shocking to me -- how could such a seemingly powerful product not even do the simplest of multitasking. on my ipod touch i can even listen to music while writing something in "notes", browsing mail or looking at my calendar. hopefully at least this type of simple multitasking would be possible, even if the ipad couldn't use the pandora streaming music application while reading a book (commonly cited by tech blogs as an example as something that the ipad cannot do). overall though, i think the "interactive" web browsing (ie. using multitouch to browse pages, etc) and content consumption (ala the new york times reader application they showcased), combined with full utilization of the large multitouch screen by creative application developers (in ways we can barely imagine right now), could be the real differentiator for the ipad. furthermore, i think apple is bound to eventually allow for multitasking and integrate some of the other things that people were expecting/hoping for with the ipad (ie. front-facing video camera for ichat), which should make the device even more powerful / useful. anyways, those are my big picture thoughts; i'd be curious to hear what people think about my home computing thoughts above (ipad + either imac or mac mini as replacement for macbook pro), as well as general thoughts on the ipad. the device certainly has people talking, with (not surprisingly) the "apple fanboys" gushing about how awesome it looks while the "haters" bag on all the things it can't do. but if i were to guess, i'd say more people (including quite a few fanboys) are disappointed than excited about the ipad. what do you think? deltatahoe
