  1. so nanuq's post here about the vintage-style no crown guard modded sub got me thinking about a new project i'd like to build a no crown guard sub from a noobfactory LV (i like the maxi dial look for this project). i am planning on having a chieftang double AR coated crystal (no cyclops), so i'm thinking that it would probably be better to have a clarks crystal (without the crown etching). has anyone here ever tried to install a clark's crystal on a noobfactory sub? i'm planning on installing a black insert instead of the green LV insert; i'm also going to have ziggy relume the dial, hands & pearl with the blue BG superluminova. finally, i am thinking that i would like a nice big crown on this watch. which brings me to my next question -- who has the biggest crown? seriously, i'm not sure if a yuki brevet style crown could be installed (or if i would even want to spend that kind of money on a crown), but i'd like a nice beefy crown for this one. let me know if you have any thoughts on where to source something like that (ie. is there a cheap, crappy rep with a wrong, oversized crown?). anyways, let me know your thoughts on this project (and any helpful advice re: my two questions re: the clarks crystal & big crown). thanks in advance deltatahoe
  2. somebody's got the sickness whatever you do, don't go anywhere near the pams deltatahoe
  3. hi paul, first off, thanks for the update quick question re: the screws. does the genuine have white gold or polished stainless steel screws for this particular model? i know earlier versions of the royal oak had white gold screws, but to be honest i haven't taken the time to determine whether or not the mbw version (or rather, the version coinciding with the more accurate caseback you are making) should have white gold or ss screws. thanks in advance deltatahoe
  4. many thanks to our even-headed admin & mods deltatahoe
  5. that's one brave (crazy?!) lady he seems pretty peaceful though -- i bet she gave him a big hug afterwards deltatahoe
  6. honest mistake -- i promise. i meant 10 feet tall of course anyways, wear it well deltatahoe ps, i'm itching for an aqua lung; let me know if you see one come up on ebay, etc
  7. now that's what i'm talking about!! looks fantastic lani; you must be standing 10" tall today deltatahoe
  8. just seeing this thread for some reason; i had a real scientific thought a while back but haven't gotten around to trying it just yet. why not just set the insert out somewhere where it will get daily, direct sunlight? would be interesting to see if it changes at all after a month of sitting out in the california or hawaii sun... deltatahoe
  9. perfect clones definitely accepts credit cards; make sure you are "logged in" and are looking in the right spots if you continue having troubles, shoot joshua an email and let him know you're having issues. best of luck deltatahoe
  10. now this is interesting -- me likey deltatahoe EDIT: to clarify -- i like the no crown guards, the maxi dial, lack of cyclops and the black insert not totally sure about the black pearl though
  11. i knew that comment would go over like a ton of bricks anyways, wear it well tami. err....i mean lani *runs & hides* on a serious note, i can see the appeal, but it is just too pretty for me to take it seriously as a men's watch. but i've never really understood the appeal of the datejust, day-date or other non-sport rolex models, so i must be missing something. i think part of it has to do with age -- i just couldn't wear that watch with a straight face at my age...but later in life? well let's just say i'm not ruling out the possibility deltatahoe
  12. *puts on flame retardant suit* it looks like a women's watch to me deltatahoe
  13. yes please congrats to o/s on the new website deltatahoe
  14. so i've always felt vintage rolex watches were meant to be worn on a oyster bracelet. however, i met with a local vintage rolex collector recently, and he was wearing one of his 1680s on a nice black strap. to be honest, i was shocked at how much i liked the combo. so i asked him about it, and he told me he had no idea where it came from -- he had received it along with one of the watches he had recently bought. the leather was high quality and soft, and one of the cool features about this particular strap was that it had a fixed, quick-release pin instead of springbars, which makes putting the strap on the watch a total piece of cake. in addition to this quick release pin, the strap had some pretty distinct markings on it, so i was able to track down the source & pick one up to try out. i received the strap a couple weeks ago; i put it on my 1665 great white, and i have to say -- i really like it here are some pics: so what do you think -- a good change of pace, or sacrilege? deltatahoe
  15. hmmm. interesting, but i'm not sure it's my cup of tea i'm curious, does the german company that makes that strap make other (non-nato style) leather straps for rolex? the leather definitely looks first rate. i've been meaning to take some pics and do a post on the topic of leather straps for rolex; keep an eye out for a new topic in the rolex forum this weekend deltatahoe
  16. @modelizer, ziggy & ubi, thanks for the info re: the hands. it's definitely in the small details if you ask me my goodness, what a beauty deltatahoe *PMs concepta about gen hands*
  17. fwiw, i bought a black dial version of the series speciale fighters version from joshua a couple months ago and it was the old version deltatahoe
  18. hmmm...interesting is there some kind of spacer between the dial and movement? b/c on all of the other (older) serie speciale navitimers the datewheel is basically flush to the dial (ie. no sunken datewheel). deltatahoe
  19. in addition to the links above, RWG member sssurfer put together an excel file with all of the various details at some point; i bet if you search his older posts you could find it deltatahoe
  20. looks fantastic ubi quick question -- one of the things that jumped out at me (aside from that gorgeous dial) was the correct (silver) colored pins attaching the subdial hands to the movement -- here's a noobtastic question for you -- are those part of the gen hands or the swiss 7750 movement? wear it well deltatahoe
  21. x2 i'm guessing this is not a a7750 version given the sunken datewheel... deltatahoe
