  1. great story nanuq -- warms the heart and yet also serves as a reminder as to how quickly things can go awry deltatahoe
  2. can't seem to get the advanced search to work i get the following error: "[#10L045] Sorry, the Links System is temporarily offline" anyone else having this problem? thanks in advance deltatahoe ps, i'm also having trouble with the emoticons -- when i click "show all", i just get some "nopermission" text...
  3. after a trip up north i think that dial would be a nice addition interesting observation re: the 5512 jojo -- i had no idea it had a thinner rehaut than the 5513 deltatahoe
  4. happy bday my friend today's the day where you strap one 16520 on each wrist without shame deltatahoe
  5. here's my personal favorite - ziggyfied cali dial pam hommage deltatahoe
  6. thanks for your insightful comments freddy; i really appreciate it. while i was doing research on all the cameras i came across this thread on the leica forum about a guy who converted his d-lux 4 to have an automatically opening lense cover. i thought it was pretty interesting (and given your hatred of spare lense caps, i figured you might have some interest in that thread). as a quick aside/update to the thread, i managed to find a new leica d-lux 4 in stock at B&H photo, and given they have a good return policy (15 days with no restocking fee), i decided to pick up both the d-lux 4 and a used d-lux 3 off ebay with the idea that i would take a bunch of comparative pictures with both cameras and see whether or not the price premium is justified. i'll post back here with my conclusions deltatahoe ps - freddy, your comment about the extreme zoom on the SX10 and its ability to generate a shallow depth of field is really interesting -- do you have any photos you can post as examples?
  7. a beauty for sure emailed the seller to ask doc's question about whether or not it has any documentation (box, original punched papers, service papers, etc). will post back here with the details once i hear back. looking at the sales listing brought up a random noobtastic question i've been meaning to ask the guys on the board. did rolex ever release a solid mid-link 93150 (or similar) bracelet? for some reason i was under the impression that they did, but i recently had a conversation with a vintage rolex nut who swore that they didn't. i figured i must have been mistaken, but then my eyebrow raised a bit when the seller of the double red stated "It comes with the original solid link oyster bracelet 9315O in very good condition" thanks in advance, deltatahoe
  8. so there are hundreds of amazing strap makers for pams, but recently i've had a couple watches with smaller lug widths that i'd really like to find a high quality, simple black calf strap. i'm imagining something like a greg stevens horween black but thinner (and not as wide, of course). any thoughts would be appreciated; thanks in advance deltatahoe
  9. fun picture ubi; i agree as well - looks good deltatahoe
  10. yikes -- i'm really struggling now. the silver lx3 for $429 at dell is pretty tempting (even with a two week delay). thanks for the heads up chief one thing worth noting -- i won't be doing my own raw conversions (or at least not any time soon)... deltatahoe
  11. yup, sold out at pretty much all of the major online sellers here (as well as local camera shops). interesting idea on the d-lux 3...i actually like the fact that it doesn't have the hotshoe (i won't be getting that expensive/ugly viewfinder). any ideas on where to get one (aside from ebay & craigslist)? deltatahoe
  12. thanks pugwash; i figured you would vote for the lx3 (having seen your posts about it). i'm not sure about buying the camera from ace photo digital though (the reseller on amazon that allegedly has it in stock) -- i did a little research and it doesn't look like a very big operation; they generally got mixed reviews....i suspect the camera is actually out of stock. but the real debate -- the silver lx3 vs. the leica given the price differential. as i mentioned before they are essentially the same camera; it's just a matter of whether or not it is worth it to me to spend the extra $100 for the better looking camera (imho) with a better warranty and customer service (not to mention brand value)... would still love some ideas on where i can actually find one in stock though deltatahoe
  13. had been considering a new digital camera for a while now, but that debate is now over after i lost my digital camera this weekend. long story the three cameras i'm currently considering are the canon g10, the panasonic lx3 and the leica d-lux 4. both the panasonic and the leica (the two i'm currently leaning towards) seem to be sold out everywhere, whereas the canon is generally available. any ideas on where to find one of these in stock (at a decent price)? also, would be interested to hear thoughts between the three. obviously the leica is a bit more expensive than the lx3 (which from what i've gathered is essentially the same camera), although from what i've heard panasonic's service department in the event you need them is slow as molasses, and their warranty is one year vs leica's three year. i'm certainly not a leica fanboy but given the price difference really isn't too wide (combined with the difference in warranty), i am considering splurging for the leica... i was originally considering the g10 pretty strongly (after hearing quite a few good reviews), but i think i like the size and for factor of the lx3/d-lux 4 better... anyways, thanks in advance for your help deltatahoe
  14. yeah, i've bought several shirts from joe hemrajani; he is definitely a class act. the shirts i ordered through him turned out great, and he was very nice to work with. but with most of his shirts starting at $95 (around 30% more than mike), i decided that mike was a nice cheaper alternative however, i wouldn't hesitate to order again from joe deltatahoe
  15. nice pieces ap_offshore but your username begs the question....have any other gens you'd like to share with us??!? i never get tired of looking at the date window of the gmtiic one day we'll figure out what kind of voodoo rolex is pulling to get that "tunnel" effect.....one day deltatahoe
  16. looking good freddy personally i think an aged insert would look more in line with the rest of the watch... aged insert or not though -- what a beauty deltatahoe ps, just sent you a PM about another project
  17. was browsing VRF and saw this mega parts listing; thought someone might be interested in the white explorer ii dial (with the gunmetal black surrounds) for a franken project. seems like it is pretty reasonably priced (i bet someone could pick it up for $150 no problem). hopefully someone finds it useful deltatahoe
  18. pure bliss K -- i was having issues with the old skin at work (running ie6); now my PM's show up (previously i had to use the dark side), the page width is back to normal and the site feels much more like home again. i'll be honest it just felt a little off previously thanks again for all your hard work T deltatahoe
  19. wow -- some of the crappiest pictures i've seen on ebay in a while. hard to believe someone would bid on that auction deltatahoe
  20. just as in anything, not every tailor is created equal my custom tailored shirts hold up better at the cleaners than any of my other shirts; as far as price, i've found $75 is about the minimum you are going to pay to get a quality dress shirt at a retail store -- aside from some of nordstrom's private level stuff, which i've found to be high quality (although i'm swimming in their shirts they are so big). deltatahoe
  21. it's funny kruzer -- your post in valerian's thread about not being a fan of button downs is one of the reasons i decided to post about my tailor; i would have guessed you had already gone the custom tailored route. anyways, if i have time this weekend (or sometime in the near future -- this weekend is going to be crazy), i'll take a couple quick pics of some of the fabrics so you guys can get an idea of what to expect deltatahoe
  22. after reading valerian's thread here about button down collars, i figured i'd start a thread about custom tailored shirts. they are surprisingly reasonable and once you go there, there's no turning back. being able to specify cuff size (for those of us that like oversized watches) is a also nice bonus (in addition to getting a shirt that actually fits, made in whatever fabric you would like). picking out fabrics from the small swatches of fabric can be tough/intimidating at first, but it gets easier over time. i've tried several of these traveling tailors over the past several years, ranging from the higher end (with shirts starting at $95 per shirt plus shipping) to the low end (with shirts as cheap as $30 plus shipping). ultimately, i settled on mike keswani; you can see his website and traveling schedule here. mike has consistently done a really nice job of nailing every detail and measurement on my shirts, and has the best mix of value and selection that i've been able to find, with most shirts coming in at around $75 plus tax. anyways, i'd be curious to hear others' experiences, as well as any thoughts or suggestions deltatahoe ps, i should put a disclaimer here -- i'm not affiliated with mike in any way -- just a satisfied customer
  23. is anyone else surprised about how many people are talking about button down shirts vs. button down collars? button down collars are for nerds deltatahoe
