  1. great story; congrats on a nice find. merry Christmas to you! deltatahoe
  2. no idea but beautiful watch; don't go selling it before you hear from multiple iwc "experts" with regard to its value deltatahoe
  3. i know i'm late to the game here, but phew -- glad to hear you are OK nanuq. as for ideas, i always thought find me SPOT was an interesting product / idea. not the cheapest solution, but when you are talking life and death.... anyways, hope you are on the mend B -- your story is a good reminder that you can't be too prepared when going into the wild. all the best, deltatahoe
  4. love threads like this fwiw, i just sent JAG a friend's women's rolex datejust with a cracked crystal; JAG fixed it up for about a fourth of the price she was quoted from her local AD i hope your girlfriend and watch get better soon deltatahoe
  5. wow - a perfect review if you ask me - great quality pics, to the point, and very informative i don't think most people have any idea how long it takes to put something like this together - fantastic job deltatahoe
  6. i can't resist responding to this one - kind of a funny strap to put on a breitling pilot's watch deltatahoe
  7. hey buddy, good to see you back around. you'll find most of the members from years ago are still around (even if we don't post as much). good luck with your 1665 build; there are plenty of really nice examples around these parts that should help immensely deltatahoe
  8. this thread made me smile thanks guys deltatahoe
  9. yessir. the 5513 on nato has been calling my name as of late. your pictures just reinforce that yearning even more deltatahoe
  10. i've never traveled with more than three either, but what could/would the TSA have to say about traveling with five or more watches? i guess it might raise an eyebrow, but my feeling is that the TSA could care less deltatahoe
  11. i'd vote for some kind of no date sub on a black nato strap. maybe a genuine dial 5512 or 5513? relatively low cost, but accurate and simple. deltatahoe
  12. great watch, and no apologies needed for your pictures (particularly the wrist shots) -- they look great if you want to change it up you can always go for the kevlar strap -- it is a totally different watch on a strap deltatahoe
  13. my AD said probably sometime in the fall oops -- just saw you asked about the rep not sure, but don't bother wearing the rep till the fall as the genuine won't be released till then deltatahoe
  14. nice bunch you have there; thanks for sharing when the vintage rolex bug bites it most definitely hurts deltatahoe
  15. crazy how time flies, huh B? i certainly call you a friend; some day we will finally get together for a drink until then, what's your next project watch??! here's to the next five years deltatahoe
  16. you're welcome i've been inactive at RWG for quite a while; it feels good to help out new folks again -- it is this "helping" attitude that was such a breath of fresh air back when i joined six!! (hard to believe it has been that long) years ago deltatahoe
  17. i don't know anything about josh's 5514 case, but i have a question that might help -- is there a reason you want to use the 5514 case instead of using the 5512/5513 case? do you want to make a 5514 comex with no-logo dial like ubiquitous made? because if not, the HEV is incorrect for a 5513 dial. also, is your genuine dial an earlier matte dial, or is it glossy with white gold surrounds? if it is the latter, then the 5514 case would certainly be wrong for that dial. hope this helps somewhat deltatahoe
  18. absolutely -- that would be a very nice choice for a first (or second or third ) pam deltatahoe
  19. thanks W -- it feels good to be back at RWG among friends the 005 would definitely be a good choice; if you want to explore some other models there is a nice summary of some of the better panerai reps available these days in this post. all the best deltatahoe
  20. this is a good (and understandable) question for someone just starting out; i'll weigh in and say that for me, for the 1:1 panerai versions that are under $300, i think it is definitely worth it. the fit and finish of these watches is most definitely a notch above -- having owned a genuine panerai, they certainly feel significantly more like the real deal. as for which version to get, i personally would go with the zero (000); with the closed caseback, it is remarkably accurate to the genuine. good luck and be sure to post some pics when you end up deciding deltatahoe
  21. thanks freddy i think it is definitely interesting looking, although i personally have a thing for a nice pointy crown guard deltatahoe
  22. interesting -- i've never seen square crown guards like these before i'd like to see some pics from other angles deltatahoe
  23. thanks fellas i think i'm going to see if the zigmeister has the appropriate screw (i need to send the watch in to be serviced anyways); if not, i'll be ordering the kit from offshore deltatahoe
