  1. The low-end ones (Fiat, I'm looking at you...) and even Alfa Romeo has a notorious record (but if you are into cars, you MUST own at least one in your life ) The real luxury ones are a completely different beast. But in all cases, they work well in Europe with the twisty roads. American cars just won't work here, they are awful at cornering as they are built for the wide open roads over there (thumbs up to the town planners though) with gentle sweeping curves in comparison.
  2. Accuracy: SFSO, old case PAM188, VC Overseas, 18k FM Casablanca, FM Conquistador nice ones (but not closest): Omega Seamaster GMT, Explorer 2, MBW AP ROO, MBW AP RO Jumbo, RD Easy Diver Just for fun: FM Vegas
  3. I think it may be illegal in Italy to wear reps. And it's most likely to be spotted with a rolex in any case, if at all... maybe just jokingly. You should be ok.. gonna meet Watchonpo ?
  4. Good luck! I'd love to have the option of a bracelet on this watch, so hope to hear of your imminent success
  5. With a picture like that, how could you not agree? I have this watch as well, and it's great... only thing with the Seatimer is ... how do you wind it? (I know, The Zigmeister says it is better to shake and bake and put on my non-existent winder... but if I really had to?) Once the crown lock is removed, the way to set the time is so awkward and if used for winding, it's even worse. Unless I haven't figured it out yet.
  6. Good luck and let us know! I feel there could be issues with the lug screws on this, as the standard version has springbars, I think. But good luck, and hope that I'm wrong !
  7. Thanks! I'd been wondering about that... And I like the pic of the watch you want as well... that one looks just lovely.
  8. You scare me! He would destroy all our watches And looks like a great GTG
  9. Great thread, I'll be interested to see hwo this turns out. I got an unmarked case I want to do with this method or failing that, PVD.
  10. Have you tried contacts or laser eye surgery?
  11. Just as Rolex (for example) looks bland and repetitive to me nowadays .... you picks yer poison...
  12. Rubber straps are fine. Why not start off with a Big Bang ?
  13. How is the bezel? Is the piece on top made of titanium or plastic as some had feared? Looks great!
  14. From the SIHH 2008 show, Chopard unveiled the black MM GT Chrono.... DLC coated ... looks lovely. Link is here.
  15. I hope that's the only thing getting tossed ... I'll get me coat...
  16. I think I prefer this method to using screws... the screws can get stripped! The IWC system can be adjusted using two toothpicks (as I think Pugwash demonstrated once)
  17. I like it but far too expensive for me
  18. and freddy is right. your best bet is to find a watchmaker near you that you can trust... get him to regrease the gaskets and close it tightly and pressure test.
  19. Unless a dealer gives you pictures or video of your watch getting pressure tested - and perhaps with evidence, like a piece of paper with your name on it. Otherwise, why believe what is said? You won't be happy on holiday with a leaky watch! I think Eurotimez does this... I hear he sends photos, so request photos of the pressure test as well ! T*K used to do this as well I believe. Other dealers say they do but ... well read the "little white lies" thread first, before paying for an unseen service.
  20. I think it's probably 31 days of the month. The other counter is probably the day of the week as it goes up to 7.
  21. I've just found this page off your signature after seeing your post in tourby's strap sale page Anyway, I've been toying around with an idea for over a year to do something similar. I got a skeleton Swiss ETA 6497 movement from tourby sometime last year (I think - it was a while ago) with the intention of putting it in a PAM case. I got some hands which are blued steel from Jimmy as well as a case (I will be using the case for something else now though... something even better ). Anyway, I'll cannibalize the unused 001 that I have and add an unmbarked caseback. At the time I thought that would just look like a normal PAM so I wanted to PVD it... then I got thinking. I wear my watch usually on the right hand (though either is fine for me) so a destro would be great. Then I thought how about leaving the bezel as polished steel on a PVD case with see through caseback? I can use one of the genuine PAM crowns.. probably the titanium one that works for handwinds. At first I was thinking of using a polished PAM crown to set it off... but now toying with the idea of leaving the crown guard leaver unpolished... or perhaps the other part... or maybe just PVD everything but the crown and bezel. Any thoughts and advice? If I don't like the finished look, I could always get the steel parts PVD'd.
  22. Seems like you've already forgotten his name You should have got him to fix your Big Bang
  23. I've never come across any. It's worth asking one of the collectors. They'll know better or be able to supply some cheapies at cheap prices. Especially the EU-based ones. Someone has posted above who to ask. You can ask Norwegian members (eg. Dani and others) about their experience with Norwegian customs if that is a worry.
  24. You won't find a Canal St equivalent in the UK... if you want anything good, order from one of the collectors... where are you based?
  25. You can buy used from Timezone forums Sales Corner as well...
