  1. I have been on RWG for the last two years. Thanks to everyone, I have learned a lot about watches, especially the ones that make my eyes sparkle. It's a lot more fun knowing more about watches that just simply buy, wear and collect.

Over the last two years, it's just very interesting to see that certain watch goes in and out of fashion here. I mean when I started here, I was interested primarily the UPO, Seamaster 2254.50 and SOSF. Everyone was talking about them, comparing them and franken them... they were quite popular. Then the interest died down a bit. The Pam stuff were pretty hot for a while also. It seemed to me that at that time if you post any pam stuff for sale, you would get a buyer. I'm sure a lot of our dealers made some fortune at that time... then it went away. Rollie DSSD never really took off as much, I think what killed them other than the size for some people was the fact that too many versions were introduced, the factory never got it right in the first two tries. There were certainly limits for people's patience. Breitling SOH, Rolex Milgauss were never really took off neither in my opinion. There were some interests with them but not quite up there as the UPO and fish. WM9 YM was hot around the end of last year, but then... I don't hear about them very often now days. Suppose Omega Ploprof could be hot if not for its crystal issue. Breitling B01 could be hot if everyone starts liking the funky pearl.

So what's the next big thing? Any thoughts? I'm not trying to ask you to predict the future, but I think it's certainly interesting to hear what you have to say about it.

  2. I just bought this one from one of our member... I have not received it yet. It's a Breitling SA Black Steel. It should be pretty huge, but since it's black... may be it's ok. BT, since you and I like Skyland very much, maybe this is the next up? The coating on the stainless steel is pretty interesting to me.

  3. Nice watch Wimpie007!

Versions of BCE is confusing. Wimpie007 call his v3, I actually call it a v4. This is because there are two versions of v2: v2 with asian date font and v2 with correct date font. The v2 with correct date font is v3 in my book. However, when ordering BCE, for later to be modified, one should order either a v2 or v2 with correct date font. Don't order dealer's v3 (because it's actually a v4) nor the ultimate.

Watchgal, your watch is still nice. If anything, the only upgrade you would need is the dw. You might get an offer for one now already. I don't think it would cost too much to have it installed. Especially if you are going to have the hands lumed in the future, you can swap the dw then. If you later want a v2 case, you can always post WTB post here and someone might contact you for one. In fact I just got one by doing this not so long ago. Just make sure it's a v2.

  4. Nice! I was wondering when you were going to post some pics... as you suggested several months ago that you would :) Congrats!

New spring bars can be bought at your local watch place, or mall kiosk. They might charge you around $2 each. Now, if you need these spring bars for your strap, you can just pick up 2 22mm, it will be just fine. If you are going to use them on the ss bracelet, you may need to try them on before buying because they may/may not fit depends on how much the pins retract.

I like all my v2/v3 bracelets. They are very nice. I'm surprised to hear that you don't like yours. However, upon closer looking at your photos, it suggests me you might actually have a v1/v4 BCE (I think definitely not a v2/v3). Your bezel looks like coming from a v1/v4 BCE. The bezel makers on a v1/v4 BCE are deeper (this is the nice) but they are a little bit closer to the outer edge of the bezel than gen or v2/v3. The pearl also doesn't look like from v2/v3. To verify this, you can check to see yours have visible crown tube (the threads are visible when you unscrew the crown on a v1/v4) See if the case underneath of the two pushers nice and straight or curved (on v2/v3 it's curved). I think v1 BCE has 60 click bezel and v4 has 120 click. If yours has 120 click, it will puzzle me because on a v4 the date wheel should have correct font. If it's 60 click one, it's quite possible the BCE is a v1, which makes much sense about the asian date wheel font.

  5. Thanks for the wonderful review on IWC watches!

I'm currently try to get a IWC 3717 modded. May I ask what the reason for the following is?

"It is available with the new high-beat asian 7750, as well as with the slow 21.000bph asian movement. Last one is preferable if you want to swap it to a gen ETA 7750. "

Does it mean the v1 IWC 3717 is preferable for installing gen ETA 7750? If so, why is that?

    Thanks!

  6. I forwarded to my bother in law and this is his reply.

"I am pretty sure I solved it. The answer is D.

first find the distribution of X.

    X = {

    0 if x < 0

    1-e^(-2/3) if x = 2

    1/3 * e^(-x/3) if x > 2

    Then just compute E(x).

    E(x)=

    integrate(x*0,x,-infinity,2) + 2*(1-e^(-2/3))

    + integrate(x/3 * e^(-x/3),x,2,infinity)

    which equals 2+3e^(-2/3)

I got "1-e^(-2/3)" by using the CDF of T solved at x=2. This will give me the probability that the device failed during the first two years.

let me know if I got the right answer. It was fun working on it."

What do you think? Did he get it right?
