Considering Rolex has switched to solid mid-links with the GMT-IIC and latest sport models, this may give more street cred to bracelets of this sort. Also, I have mentioned before, I am sure there are plenty of Gen's in the world owned by non-WIS's-- that when the time came to replace the bracelet they went aftermarket solid, or aftermarket with clasp swap over. As far as it being a tell, unless you are very close to the person in direct sunlight or hand the watch over to a Rolex WIS, it is not as easy as you think. I was sitting at a Sushi bar next to a guy in a Sub. I could not tell if the mid's were hollow or solid from 3' away. I have said it before, but bouncing/failing/calling out a watch as a rep/fake where user-serviceable parts are concerned should not be the primary ID method. (Bracelet/Strap/Inserts)

Just enjoy it for the bargain it was. I would not use this as a foundation for a super/etc, unless you are just looking to learn on it....

Agreed, white can be tricky. For starters it makes the watch look larger. I had Chopard MMXL white face that even at 44mm (my limit), wore like a 50mm alarm clock. I think the typical Rolex size 40mm and less/vintage are the sweet spot for the average sized male wrist. Also, skin complexion. If you are very pale, not enough contrast. The new 41mm Rolex Milgauss in white face also looks abnormally large compared to the black dial counterpart.

I am not too up on the newbie of the year. As far as member of the year goes, I have to say Ubiquitous, no question. Even though he was busy and away at times this year, his continued generosity to members, one-off builds for members, is second to none. Heck, if he is not eligible for member of the year, I nominate him for the first ever "RWG Lifetime Achievement Award".

@Bike Mike, reading that makes me wish for a solid aftermarket, and 'acceptance' of the aftermarket by the masses. Wouldn't be cool if we had an AutoZone equivalent for ALL watches. The funny thing is, didn't they crack down on the auto industry for attempting what these guys are doing? Then again, cars have become more of a need than a luxury item want I guess.

So a Gen Series Special Navitimer is one of these monsters and not a 7750! The modern Navitimer 3-6-9 based on a 7753 seem pretty solid to me. Re: Alpha comment above: I think you can buy an Alpha for $99.00. From across the room the (G)evril and Alpha logo would be easily confused.

The movement is a 2824-2 with Dubois & Depraz 2020 module to give it the chrono. Bizzare. Learned about a new movement today.
