  1. Damn! Maybe we should start selling our PAMs on the bay.... (NOT)
  2. Store it in a North facing closet. With luck the temperature there will stay below 80 degrees F. (or a basement).
  3. I recently refinished a Ti watch here: I list what I used. Essentially, the Ofrei pad is a green Scotch bright. Also, you can use blue painters tape to mask areas that may not need clean up, etc.
  4. JoJo35, while I agree with using the search feature. Flyingwedge was NOT looking for this information, rather making a testimonial. (At least that is how I read it.) Some noob who has no idea what Polywatch is might not otherwise have found out about it. Search is great, but sometimes things change, new tech, or even a simple confirmation that the old stuff still works is nice to see.
  5. Reps are like a gateway drug to gens. But you never forget the drug that got you hooked.
  6. ROFL #2
  7. Glad you posted it flyingwedge it is nice to have current updates on success with a product. Don't get me wrong, I love RWG, but the "Search" function has not been the same since 2008. (Admin, if you are out there, see if you can use Lucene search add-on. This is what powers Wikipedia search. http://lucene.apache...docs/index.html) Also, for the new members sometimes repeats are good to bring something to the foreground that otherwise be missed.
  8. Interesting. Glad to see you have good results. Proof that a DG2813 or Miyota 8215 can take abuse-- BUT, boiling it? Not sure that is good for the oil inside there.
  9. Wrong way. You want HEAT to expand and potentially loosen. Try BRIEFLY, setting it on the pad of a Mr. Coffee/Coffee Maker. (Still think you need a proper tool as mentioned, but worth a shot)
  10. too true, or are Russian mail order bride-to-be's. Used to be Ibiza.
  11. Rolex, if you are listening. Recipe for success = Rolex & Tudor Combined Boutiques. At least in the USA. Making it the only place for Tudor's (value add), but still selling the standard Rolex line at both ADs and your stores. Sell the Tudors in quantity to 'pay the rent', sell the blingy new Rolex's for pure profit.
  12. Deals can be had. My AD pretty much gives me a 15% discount on Rolex (If I were so inclined). On the other hand there is another snobby dealer in town he says "the price is the price, and they are not allowed to discount" (Bull5hit)..... If you really want a Gen, from an AD, shop the grey market (Jomashop.com) and offer ~$100~$200 over grey market prices. If they are a55holes, tell them fine, you will deal with the 'warranty' issues and buy 'grey'. The only advantage to the AD is the paperwork and 'while it is in warranty' service. Back to the article. I can see them opening Boutiques-- in addition to AD's, but I can not see them pulling out of the likes of Tourneau, Hyde Park, etc. Rememeber, many watch impulse buys, especially by men, are while their wife/girlfriend/mistress are shopping jewelry etc. Rolex would LOOSE money. Plus, scorned AD's would blast them, and sell the hell out of competing brands.
  13. Answer to the question = Yes. However, I am quickly moving into the Ubi Camp or Franken Camp on the Rep side of the house. The satisfaction of improving, building and tinkering adds to the experience. Looking down at my wrist and seeing something I assembled or improved gives more pleasure then starring at a Gen. (Not saying I don't love my Gen collection....just sayin'...). I am pretty much done with 'out of the box' reps, and 'off the shelf' gens.. Plus, there is way too much cool vintage 5hit out there.
  14. For roughly $200 you are getting a case (that needs mods), and a hollow mid bracelet that is OK. You have a high-beat ETA clone which is wrong as well. A dial, crown and insert that IMHO need replaced. If these "Jumbo" crowns are the same on the PT 1665, then the tube will accept a Gen crown.
  15. @Stephane, very cool watch. Love the movement photo!
  16. I agree the comments/questions make for an equally interesting read. I wonder if we should have a BET as to what it sells for.
  17. Very cool. How Star Wars should have ended:
  18. Looks amazing. Good work. Can I ask what other case you abandoned in favor of Phongs? Thanks
  19. A m a z i n g ! ! !
  20. The yearly rattling of the sabers. From what I can see, the focus is more on MPAA/RIAA mass produced media. Handbags and infringement on "Sports" memorabilia. Right now, the NFL, MLB, RIAA, MPAA are some of the groups being catered to. They probably have more money and lobbyists than the watch industry in this current recession. Dare I say 'fake watch' crackdowns are rather passe' these days. "Stay calm, and carry on"
  21. Bezel looks MBW, and it could be the lighting, but the datewheel is very 'dark' silver. Crystal and Crown = Gen. Lug holes look drilled, lacking taper. (Again, could be from angle, or case buffings)
  22. While not the norm, I have a 14yr old Miyota 8215 powered Submariner that is still running, never serviced, just now showing signs of dry/gumming. I have had great luck with the ETA based stuff as well. You might want to consider the TimeZone watch school. The knowledge from this class has armed me with what I feel I need to maintain my reps. Worse case at least the R&R of movements. If you get the point where you can are are comfortable R&Ring (remove and replace) movements keep in mind: Brand New 21J's (DG2813's) are $15.00 Brand New Swiss 2836's are about $125.00 Edit to add: IF you are a chrono guy with A7750's, get them serviced and use the chrono sparingly. Food for thought.
  23. Playing with Daytona's for the next few days:
