I originally was looking for all watches. im interested in reps as well but i am not sure of any of quality besides th mionwatch which might not be accurqte but the movt is ok.
Valid answer. I would like to know why people paid upfront in full instead of placing a deposit. I believe paying in full didn't get you further ahead in line than those placing with a deposit. I might have done the same thing but I got in relatively early.
Ah the endless question. One I would like to know the answer to. A top grade ETA v. a Rolex movt. I could stick my foot in the mouth and give my opinion but I don't know enough to do so.
I would like to do 2 things if technically possible:
1. Convert the inner rotating bezel to a smooth rotation, similar to the vintage Rolex SD and Subs.
2. Convert the Bezel from uni-directional to bi-directional.
I'm thinking I should ask a watch repairman to see if they can do either.
I have noticed the watch stops sometimes when I have it in my winder. I dont recall it stopping when laying horizontal. I plan on watching it over the next few days. My first thought is to exchange it for another 1665 but I don't want to deal with another unknown and the slow boat to China. Since I plan on having it serviced I hope during that time the movt will be put right. Will a proper service movt solve all issues with the movt or just mask them. I have never had any of my watches serviced (gen or rep). I now figure the cost of a service in any rep I buy due to the dubious history of the movts in reps.
Well I have my 1665 that I will slowing mod but I still have a want for the 1660. My first rep was trustys 16600 and i was happy with it for what it was except for the rotor noise. I'd like to buy a beater and play with it. Ive seen where fixing the rotor noise is a fairly ease fix.
Im looking to get a 21j Sea Dweller to play with. Are they all the same? Does it matter which dealer to get one from? Can someone share the differences from its Asian or Eta cousin. i can only guess:
- case differences
- mineral crystal insread of sapphire
My first rep was trustys 21j and it was real nice from what i remember. only problem was the noisy rotor which is common and now an ease fix.
I'm wearing what has become my favorite watch, My Omega X-33. I've owned her for coming on a year and a half and just noticed something today. The bezel markers at the 12 and 6 o'clock are left biased. The marker at the 6 o'clock more so and I'm talking by less than a mm.
It is hard to tell, especially at the 12 o'clock but trust me.
Ebay? I'd definitely hang out in the Rolex section and read, read, read. Some of the most knowledgeable guys are in there. You want a case that will accept a gen dial and or maybe a proper swiss gmt movt. If I was making a frankin Exp II I'd do:
- Gen dial
- proper swiss gmt movt
- Proper hands to fit the movt
- gen crown & tube
- gen cyclops
- service the movt
Also look into articles concerning cost/value. Throw in the cost of a bracelet to the above and you might as well buy a gen. There is a lot to think about.
