  1. Can you confirm the price, because at ND Trading the case with bezel and plexi is $1305. For $500 I would probably go for it (would save a lot of work).
  2. mg: thanks for the hint. I looked and it and I like it (especially the already drilled lug holes, but I am not sure, because when comparing the pics on the Silix site and the gen pics it seems that the gen bezel is larger and extends beyond the case (see pic below): So I am almost tempted to go with a slightly larger case (also the GMT dial seems to be larger than most with slightly over 27mm): What do you think of this idea?
  3. Thanks for your input and pics (they are a true inspiration). I am not sure if I want to spring the $1300 just for the case with bezel (on the other hand:then I would have a big part of the project taken care off). In a way I am almost inclined to sacrifice a bit of authenticity for knowing that I have somehow built the watch. What other case do you think I could use that would still allow the use of the bakelite bezel?
  4. Just answered my own question: But $420 ?????? ARRRGHHH
  5. Here is a pic of the original lumed bezel: But where can one find a bezel with an edge like this:
  6. Freddy: What do you think of the lumed bakelite bezel insert from ND Trading ? I read somewhere that Rolex actually made these for a while until they discovered that there was a radiation issue ( would be a nice touch IMO)
  7. I think you are right, but it will be so much more rewarding if I get it done ...
  8. I saw this watch in real and I fell in love. So now I would like to build one like it since I couldn't find a rep of it. Unless somebody knows if there is a rep out there and can point me in the right direction I would appreciate any advice you can give me. I am thinking of buying a 6538 (maybe from Trusty) which I know is 41mm and not correct, but the watch is for me and I like them bigger: And then a bakelite bezel insert (with lume which looks awesome from ND trading) which is 38mm outer width and might just fit: I think this will be the most demanding part in the project (but then I have really no clue what I am talking about when it comes to vintage Rolex watches) I am still not sure about the dial and movement, but I figure I make those decisions when I have the case ready to go. If the Rolex experts could give me some advice I would really appreciate it. If you have any parts that you think could work for me: even better Thanks in advance for your help.
  9. For the world cup final:
  10. Gen looks good on the wrist: I hope somebody will get his soon and post some pics ...
  11. Please post pics when you get it. I am really on the fence for this one ...
  12. It's a DSN case with 7750 manual movement - but with some modifications (dial, case re-shaping, plexi-lift, crown guard and more)...
  13. Since I can remember I wear my watches on the right wrist - even being right handed. Every time I tried it on the left wrist I ended up bashing the watch in a door frame or some other obstacle (maybe the motor skills of my left arm have suffered from several fractures in my child hood). So every time I see a watch that I like but is not available with a crown on the "other side" I get thinking: "what if..". The Panerai 6152-1 was my first Destro and has gotten a lot of wrist time, but I also always loved my Big Egiziano and my DSSD and just wished I had them as left hand versions. Thanks to this and other watch forums and especially the help of pbdad and Nightwatch I was able to get what I always wanted. Enjoy my Destro Trio:
  14. Everything stayed the same, all I did was to install the new dial and turn the case 180 degrees. The buckle I sourced online from another strapmaker (it wasn't cheap, but it has a real presence).
  15. I have always liked my Egiziano more than all my other Vintage Panerai watches, the only thing that bothered me is that I wear my watches on the right wrist and the crown pointed in the wrong direction. Well, Nightwatch made a special dial for me to take care of that. Sorry for the below average pics, but it has been raining here for days and I just couldn't wait any longer to show it. Enjoy: Here some detail of G's amazing dial work: Of course I had to make a new strap for it with a killer buckle: Last but not least the wristy:
  16. I am not sure, but if you can change the bezel insert and install a gen crown it might look really awesome.
  17. Took Sunday afternoon off and went to a friend's private beach. Of course I had to take some of my favorite watches and take some shots. Enjoy: Despite the de-lamination issue still one of my favorites: Omega PloProf I can't get this one of my wrist right now: ABYSS DESTRO And my overall favorite: BIG EGIZIANO
  18. Vintage looking watches that say Rolex on them work well for me (maybe they make me look younger...):
  19. The Germans beat Argentina down so deep that I had to put on the Abyss: Don't f@ck with zee Germans: Now it's time to kick back and relax:
  20. Abyss Destro & friends:
  21. Finished the bracelet last night around midnight, so please excuse the grainy and below average pics: Now I just have to trim the end links and repair some of the pins on the bracelet (for now I epoxied them in so I can wear it today) and then this baby is finished, it wears very comfortable on the bracelet Wrist shots to come
  22. Almost done (but it was a bi@ch), still have to shave off the endlinks a bit and finish the second part of the bracelet (but it got dark and I had to go to work):
