  1. I think the Swiss Made covers 5 marks in the gen. The m is not bolded on PT's LV but the Oyster Perpetual Date as Crystal pointed out had the incorrect spacing...All in all, and for the money is a VERY good replica. Great value I think...the LV retails for about $6,000 in the US...nobody will discount it...that is if you can find it at an AD... Cheers Alex
  2. No you haven't...it was me who put the wrong image up... (updated the post...sorry and thank you) Now we can continue... Alex
  3. You are right Crystal ...the markers on the W9 watch are further apart...One other little detail on the dial is the fact that the fifth minute marker is bold on the gen and a bit longer compared to the PT version. Miniscule detail I may add... They all need some degree of modding... I think...if it is not one thing is the other or the next or...and so on. They are getting close though. But I guess we covered some of the minor details that illustrate the difference between good reps and the gen. Very informative...at least to me! Cheers! Alex
  4. I beg to differ...in part. It will fool anyone who does not know that an IWC Jones existed (or the ones who think that Jones is an homage to Alan Jones the Formula 1 racer)...but anyone who had or seen an IWC close up will recognize it as a rep (I very good one I must admit) .... The difference is staggering. The finish and craftmanship of the higher end watches (with the exception of the VC 'Over at Sears') simply cannot be reproduced at this price range. Check a real Patek or even better, a Lange & Sohne...that is an experience on and of itself! And yes, the chances of running into an FA Jones owner is VERY VERY SLIM...I think there are many more IWC Jones owners with the watch # 117 than IWC watches out there Cheers Alex
  5. I own one of PT's perfect LV...and even when there is no perfection in life...much less in reps...I have to tell u that for the price we pay...is a very good VALUE... This is what I think...with the watch in my hand...(wrist actually) Pearl wrong= yes (but better)...needs modding Bezel numbers too fat= I disagree...I can't see the difference. (it could be just me or the pic...honestly I don't know) Date mag cyclops = perfectly aligned in my actual watch...not sure how consistent they are across the production line...but I guess there is a 'luck of the draw' factor to be entertained in all reps Date Magnification = looks good to me (on my watch...that is) Crown too big = you got me thinking and you might be right...(the jury is out because I cannot find the actual specs on the crown of the LV...but that was a good pick...) Metal borders = look fine to me... Print spacing on "Oyster Perpetual Date" is off... you are right... Print font on "Oyster Perpetual Date" = Looks OK to me Crown guards = big improvement from prior versions...but they need to be trimmed just a tad... Date font = (at least on my watch) is a bit thin... Case and bracelet = need polishing and shaping (a bit edgy still) I wanted to point out the issue of the value...quality + price.... because while I researched the different options (other than dishing out $6K for a gen) I also looked at Watchmaker's 9 offering... as it happens...you can't get evrything right in a single piece...let me give you an example this is the GEN LV ... This is my wrist shot with PT's ultimate LV...nice rehaut etc...more pics at PT LV Now look at a the LV that watchmaker9 is offering...(for over $462)...everything right...with the exception of the font spacing, the insert and the date magnification which is not 2.5X, the dial printing (look at the M after 300) ... but take look at the bracelet and case...beautifully finished ... good crown guards ... I was going for it and do the right mods...change insert and crystal...but the price was too high...but the quality was rated only good ...so the VALUE (quality-price relationship) was inferior to what I got from PT's LV... (I think the same applies to Josh's and Andy's versions) Ahh...just like with women...can't get everything right with a sample of 1....!!!need more Hope I got my 'VALUE' point across... just my 0.02 Cheers Alex
  6. Well, PT is off on vacation with limited access to email...he left a "gone away" note at TRC... (I was surprised he was not on the list anymore)
  7. Welcome A one liner on Omegas...one of the must-have reps are the Planet Ocean 42mm 4th Gen (Josh, Trusty or PT) or the 5th gen XL from TTK (I got mine from him). I'd suggest you read the reviews by By-Tor and other knowledgeable members and try to get/ download a copy of the Replica Watch Report (www.replicawatchreport.com)...you'll see the light then! Happy trails and keep an eye on your paypal account...it can get pretty interesting as you go along! Cheers Alex
  8. Sooner than expected?? http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=9437
  9. You are going to make me buy that watch Pugs! and go to Paris (yet again) on a weekend too! Still wearing my LV from PT...getting more wrist time than my gen...
  10. After I sold my "Barn Rover" (in the similar thread from the weekend)...been driving my A4 '06 with all the bells and whistles...(including a free sperm-guard for the occasional Saturday night escapade)
  11. White on strap...I'll try to make it out of my state of 'broken-ness' ... depending on when we make the deal. Cheers Alex
  12. Just leased my new "Barn Rover"
  13. Nice bunch Admin...post pictures whenever you have the opportunity!!! Congrats! Alex
  14. Ofrei and the Watchprince are US based...fast shipping upon check out?
  15. Disregard my PM. I thought it was the bezel and not the bezel insert that was broken ...I'd get an insert from Ofrei or the watchprince and have it glued it in...
  16. The shirt is not fake...
  17. As far as the first purchase goes...I looked carefully at the reviews in advance...and chose the dealer AND watch at the same time. You can get scammed on Ebay too. I think this forum provides a protected environment; I'd compare it to the myriad of scam sites that look beautiful on the web with triple AAAAAA grade 1 Swiss made reps that at best, are the ones that some of the dealers at RWG sell...only for a fraction of the price ($188 for a TW Sub vs $800 at bestswiss?) It may be a leap of faith...but everything considered, not a big one. The other 'must do' for me was to read the Replica Watch Report book (downloadable on their page)...This will avert unreasonable expectations...(perfect 99.9& watches that only can be spotted by opening the back case etc). When you pay over $400 the expectations are different -and rightfully so- but a rep is a rep... The RWR will give you a detailed view of what to look for in different models and is a fun read also... I agree with you that sometimes the Dealer Review area is a "fan club" of the dealers...and posting a bad review will draw fire and criticism...but it also has to do on 'how the issue is being posted'... In my personal experience, one marginal piece in 10 I bought so far is an OK ratio. I have not posted a bad review, becasue there were no merits...it was partly my fault (I thought I was getting another movm't) but partly an issue with a horrible and misaligned date. After sending the watch back and realising I was wrong on the movm't issue, I offered to buy another item as a gesture of good will...but privately. We all make mistakes... Thoreau said that the only thing that kept us from going to war was manners...([censored]! he was right!!! ) Paypal IS a luxury...just as we choose dealers they'll choose customers in the future. Noobs should be educated, but some are beyond hope. The two most common elements in the Universe? Hydrogen and stupidity! Cheers Alex
  18. That's an unique "Tudex - oyster chronometer perpertual swiss date just (in time)" Truly one of its kind... Alex
  19. IWC releasing a limited edition of the Portugieser Miami Vice?I was wondering how much longer would it take to IWC to go down the Rolex path...well, here it is...
  20. Actually he is not out of business...www.mulberryoutlet.co.uk He's UK based like PT...but I've never ordered from him... this is as far as my knowledge goes... @Sherrington...u are in my best of RWG list! incredible work...you sure you never worked for Rolex?
  21. How about the chanel J12 line...apparently is a good rep (ceramic case and bracelet) and Joshua sells it with box and papers... http://perfect-clones.com/cha10001-black-c...artz-p-174.html http://perfect-clones.com/cha10002-white-c...rtz-p-1208.html Cheers Alex
  22. I don't know where he got the $600-800 figure from.. Like with mostly everything...watches cost what people are willing to pay (and people in general -not horologists) Companies bias people's opinions with aggressive PR campaigns, celebrity recruitments, exposure, etc etc...Wimbledon is linked to Rolex...or was the other way around? (so I then understand the $4000 figure) My first good watch, a Rolex Date 1986 still works like a charm...I love it...and I have no clue how 'clean' the 15000 was when it left the factory... I want to update it...but I'm having a hard time letting it go...it is a brand thing that works at the emotional level (and the image and perception from others). So what was my plan?...trade it in for an SD or a Sub! Rolex for Rolex...and this is knowing that there ARE other options, perharps even better options from the horological standpoint. Those PR dollars are effective after all ...I consider myself a rational individual... but deep down inside my stance defies all rational thinking: "I have to have another Rolex...I'm letting one go, I cannot get something else of a 'lesser' (perceived) value...I have to have another Rolex"...anything less than that I'll perceive it as a loss, even when in reality it may not be the case...And So now I'm waiting 12 weeks for a Rolex Sub... so this break got me thinking (for once!)... Compared side by side, dollar by dollar, hour by hour...I think other brands are a better values...IWC, Glashutte are two examples that come to mind...An IWC Portugieser in SS costs roughly what a SS SD does (IWC Potugieser)...an IWC Portofino 38mm SS goes for around $1900...Same scenario with the Glashutte senator series(Glashutte 1)(Glashutte 2)...(across the street from Lange & Sohne...basically the same company). Will we see Uma or whatever the name of the next champion of something is, wearing a Zenith? I don't know but I don't see it as a likely situation. PR dollars, marketing dollars...create fantasies that have nothing to do with the horological value of the piece...(the Rolex website has zero info on the watches) That is for connossieurs of the trade...Last week I had the opportunity to compare side by side, in my hand, the IWC Portugieser (above), the JLC Reserve de Marche (JLC), a Glashutte Senator (above), a 2006 Rolex Datejust and a Sub no date...My impression was that IWC, JLC and Glashutte are better pieces (value + finish and craftmanship + movement)... But still, what was I intending to buy....a $4700+tax Rolex...the 'cheap' sub with date? and I'm waiting in line... The upshot of the Rolex craze is that the resale and trade in value is very high ...thanks to a secondary market that is thriving...(everybody wants one and 2 or 3K is not an impossible figure)...But would I spend 10K on a SS Daytona or 5K on a SS IWC Chrono...no doubts in my mind. Bottom line? I love Rolex ...but that has to do in part with their watches. (in my case a lot has to do with the resale value too...) Al (still looking for my pills) PS: these are the two cents of an ignoramus who does not know much about the intricate designs and the evolution of watches...just one who appreciates craftmanship and attention to detail. So please accept my apologies in advance if I missed technical facts (that I cannot even start mumbling with authority). Just my two cents on the reaction at the visceral level...and this of course, applies to my own personal experience I'm sharing
