  1. I really liked this last generation of Omega Dynamics, and was very close to getting the Targa Florio two-register chronos (not to be confused with TAG-Heuer's Targa Florio) when I saw one at a second-hand watch store. Great value for a classic-looking Omega. The only downside is that it was endorsed by Ralf Schumacher.
  2. The quality of journalism on the printed page ain't too hot these days, either. As for the Puffington Host article: "While wristwatches are certainly still a style statement and/or status symbol for many..." immediately contradicts the claim that they're obsolete.
  3. I'm not familiar with Rolex OPs with that case/lug design. Would you know its history?
  4. If there's only a problem with the hand, the bright side is that you can get a new replacement (2210) for $15. The Super-Luminova on the pip won't be too noticeable, and you can always have it relumed for a better match with your tritium. It looks great, but it'll be even better with a working chrono!
  5. Don't do it! Ofrei sells the 166.0324 case set for almost $500 less than the BIN price. The seller has a good reputation and often carries Omega parts that aren't carried by anyone else. This isn't one of them.
  6. Excellent! Imagine something similar to this: The new 1498 bracelet has a terrific-looking and well-designed clasp, but I don't care for the modern link design. The 1171 looks and feels great--you definitely won't confuse it with a Rolex folded-link band.
  7. Spectacular, Andei! I can't wait to see more of your snow pics for this winter!
  8. Understood, but this isn't going to be an easy watch to get back, if you change your mind. Same goes for the BK Sub LV, I'd reckon...
  9. Don't you have a pretty long list of potential buyers by now? I was in the "sell it" camp, since you seem to love the Sub LV so much. But if you're still on the fence after all this time, then I'd suggest you find a way of keeping both. How many kidneys do you have?
  10. The picture of the THC sans caseback, plus the reputation of the chronograph module, did much to dampen the enthusiasm. But do try to handle one at an AD, as it is a stunner up close. Sometimes good looks are all it takes! vlydog: I'm unable to send private messages to you. Is your mailbox full?
  11. "AA++ Seller, Very pleased with product" re: a $10 toy Corvette. Good enough for me! Is it me or are the questioners giving this guy way too much of the benefit of the doubt? Well, at least he has more pictures than Dr. Bob did.
  12. My theory is that the DW, NDT, and Phong cases are more alike dimensionally than we suspect. However, the only proof I can offer are the identically-sized bezels and crystals of DW and NDT. When I had Ubi's NDT 7031 crystal and bezel, they were interchangeable with the DW parts. One other thing: I think the lugholes of the Phong and DW are in the same place i.e. noticeably lower than on the gen. EDIT: Hang on, Pete... Have you got a genuine crystal on your 7032, and did you have to modify anything?
  13. stormtrooper4: Do you need to go to Hanoi to get those replaced? Since the double shot seems to be all the rage these days: "Hey, man! Nice cyclops!"
  14. I also noticed the gap between the orange numerals, and tried to determine the dimensions by overlaying photos of the gen with a photo of my DW 7032 in Photoshop. The positioning of the plates, tracks, and numerals are a near-perfect match. (I wish I could figure out a way to show this easily, but I think I'd waste an entire evening trying to put together an animated GIF!) I'm almost certain that the problem is with DW's too-narrow rehaut, and that this might be responsible for the consequently narrow crystal and bezel. DW's dial is really remarkable in its accuracy, and the only improvement would be the replication of the gen's dodecagonal depression* in each subdial. (*There has to be a better way to describe those subdials!)
  15. Wow! That definitely beats the usual Clebars and Roamers!
  16. Ah, how I love to see an uncovered Valjoux 72! Pete, what was the donor watch?
  17. Apologies if you already know this, but the gen's case reference number is 175.0054, which means it would take a 062SN3002, per Ofrei. Unfortunately, I can't find any dimensions listed for this crystal, and $142 (plus shipping) is a lot of cash for an uncertain fit. Maybe you could sneak some calipers into your sleeve and surreptitiously "view" the gen at an AD?
  18. DW sells a bridge set, likely for less than the other sources.
  19. I know there have been at least two or three attempts at vintagizing the DSN Blancpain: There was one by VDB, but not up to his usual standards, I'm afraid--just a bit of stains and scratches. The great Enzo (where have you gone?) made a nice Tornek, and I believe he had some input into the creation of this rep. There was one other guy who relumed his Lip-Blancpain in white "tritium", and that looked rather nice, in a time machine sort of way. The TR-900 is the way to go for closeness to gen. It's the only model (along with a few Milspecs) that had a bezel nearly as thick as Davidsen's. #2 accuracy-wise is the Lip-BP, followed by the basic No-Radiations, which greatly resembles the infamous Polish Navy Fifty Fathoms. On the plus side, you won't necessarily need a Tropic strap for the Tornek. It looks fantastic on an earthy NATO, or even on brown leather--preferably with USN markings!
  20. I OWN AN ALPHA AND OMEGA... but, no! And I'm far more mortal than certain RWG members. For one thing, much of the work on my pieces is outsourced, either to a local watchsmith or to friends here at RWG. In the case of the 1016s, I couldn't have done it without jmb's help, and wouldn't have started without ChiMan12's input. My own watchmaking skills are pretty dire, but I get a kick out of scrounging around for parts and piecing projects together in my head. I do appreciate the compliment. urbanshogun: DSN. It's not even close to being a 1:1 replication (the thick bezel is a huge tell, for example), but it's a very fine watch. Sorry I can't donate it, but it's going into my reliquary.
  21. Interesting, C... I'll have to take a closer look the next time I go searching through auctions of vintage chronographs. vlydog: I tried sending you a PM, but got an error like so: The following errors were found The member vlydog cannot receive any new messages This personal message has not been sent
