  1. Happy Anniversary TJ!!! In honor of your anniversary, I am wearing the Datejust that I plan to wear at my wedding
  2. I'd like to see Pugwash's top 5!!!
  3. The only issue I am worried about is the cost. The more drawers and such that I add to this the more expensive it will be to build. I will talk with my wood worker and see what he thinks. I thought about making the shelf a slide out and then having a storage drawer below it and another drawer on the side. Or even splitting the front drawer into two drawers. I just don't want it get too crazy on the cost. I am going to head over there now and I will check in with him. Thanks for all the input everyone!!! Definitely a community effort!
  4. So I think that's it then.....I will send the new drawings to my wood worker to get started on this. I guess I should order a pair of the arm rests too.
  5. A new thought. Attach a pair of these rotating arm rests to the angle section of the bench. They are a product out of Canada. Google "restman 2". A pair can be had for about $32 Canadian. I figure I can chop the screw piece off with a dremel tool, drill some holes into the vertical section and mount it to the angled section of the bench. Should do the trick nicely (and they are removable if they get in the way)
  6. Nice job R!! Keep it up! It's nice to see more folks posting around here!!
  7. Franken Tudor Tuesday:
  8. Any thoughts on the latest revision before I send the drawings to the shop?
  9. Thanks for that wwarren! It's got some intersesting concepts, that's for sure May be a little more than I need at this point though.
  10. @wwarren - the pics aren't showing up here
  11. I registered, but I guess I have to wait for the manual activation. Any chance you can post some pics?
  12. Ok, per Andy's comment, here is a V3 drawing of the bench. Same angled front end and designed to fit an AF Switzerland or Bergeon work mat. Now has a side tray for tools like a dust blower so it doesn't roll around on your work area and damage or move the small bits. Oh, and a small drawer in the front of the unit too. This is the look I am going for. I want it to look like a vintage/modern wood machinists tool chest like the Gerstner chests:
  13. I was actually think about using an apron or something like that. Put it on the desk, drop the table top bench on to it, and then wear it. Probably look a little silly, but lord knows it won't look any worse than I do with the headband magnifying lens and light on my head!
  14. I saw that one, but the issue is I already have a big desk set up and I can't really replace it with a traditional watchmakers bench. This is why I need a desktop/table top solution.
  15. Awesome input guys! Thanks! @ Ronin, I wanted to go deeper, but for my desk area, I can't. I have a computer desk with a riser on the back of it to get my computer monitors up higher. So 15" is as deep as I can go. A slide out drawer or tool holder is a pretty interesting idea. Or I guess I could just mount something on the sides to hold the blower and random things. Hmmm.....
  16. I think I am going to go with Oak for this one. Keep with a nice, vintage kind of look like the older Gerstner Machinists tool chests (which are absolutely stunning!) With v2 of the bench, the front area is 14" wide which is the standard width for the green bergeon style rubber mats.
  17. The only really important question is: how does RWG look on the iPad??
  18. Arm rests is an interesting idea, or triangular. As for the size, I am unfortunately limited to only about 30" wide for it to fit comfortable on my current desk without taking over the whole thing. I may revisit the plan though and change the front end a little bit. Hmmmm......you have me thinking now.....
  19. Toad, check out eBay. I just bought this Moseley set for cheap over the weekend after seeing this tutorial:
  20. I've decided to make my own table top bench. I don't need it to be quite as high as they have. I am going to make one that is 30" wide by 15" deep and overall height will be 6.5" high. Deciding whether or not to make it out of maple, oak or mahogany. I don't need all of the storage either. I just want a work surface that's a little higher than my desk and that I can remove and put away when i'm not using it. I came up with a rough CAD drawing for it and my machinist friend is going to cut all the pieces so i can assemble and finish myself. Here's a picture of what I'm going to assemble: Please let me know your thoughts or opinions
  21. Yes I did. There are a few different options for sale here They have what appears to be the exact same bench that Ofrei has, but for $53.99. However, I haven't found out what the shipping costs are yet.
