Check this link for the correct handset for PreV:
There's an interesting story of how the board came to a collective realization that this had to be fixed.
If I recall correctly, someone posted their 202a or 203a. Someone commented the hands were incorrect. Siesta then posted his, which had the correct hands modded by Spinmaster for the PreV look. People realized there was a difference. Fishgodeep went on a warpath to get the correct hands made.
FGD still has some PreV hands left as recently as last month. The alternative is Helenarou.
I love this place.
My 2 cents, best value for money:
CASE: Only for a 201a/202a/203a, DSN PreV case with single-side screw in lug. Then drill the holes for the PreV double-sided screw bars yourself. From the pics I've seen, the 205a and 218a don't seem to have the fat lugs.
DIAL: FGD. There is no substitute.
HANDS: FGD v2 hands, FGD v1, Helenarou PreV
CRYSTAL: JacksonTse for some height, DSN
CG: TB with some shaping
STRAPS: Simona PAV
I have 2 Swiss 6497s with the same problem. The seconds hand stops when I push in the winding stem. I plan to use them for PAM builds, so there will be inward pressure on the stem with the CG closed.
I've checked the usual suspects and there are no issues:
- Keyless works is fine
- I can set the time
- I can wind properly
- The seconds hand does not touch the hour/min hands
- The movements seem to keep good time.
Thanks in advance.
This weekend marked the start of my holiday, and I spent it finishing some old-school Ross dials which have been sitting in my parts box for a while.
All the indices were filled with clear 5 minute epoxy. After a few attempts at making dials with off-white or yellowish backgrounds I decided I really prefer them heavily patinated. It takes alot of patience to keep reworking the indices to remove the air bubbles. I gave up after the 6th try. Here they are:
The MM variants:
The LPs:
And finally the heavily patinated RP modeled after one pictured in the Vintage bible.
Thanks for looking.
The indices were a bit too white for me so opened her up again and aged the indices and hands this time. Still not the Oka hands... but these will do for now.
Thanks for the kind words. The hands could definitely be improved. I am hoping Santa brings me a pair of Okabum's angelus hands for 6497's. Those are sweet.
I've been sitting on a minor stockpile of vintage parts but have not found the time to finish a single vintage project. The self loathing finally caught up with me a few nights ago.... I humbly present my first vintage project for your consideration... 6152 LPMM
Profile of reshaped case
Vintage hands
The specs:
Ross Dial w/ clear epoxy filled indices - a classic
DSN 6154 case reshaped
Nightwatch thick caseback
Gunny 74 strap
Getat hands - I scored the lume area with an exacto knife and applied white paint applied to the back to replicate the vintage look.
Thanks to VDB, Clint Eastwood, Ross, Merlin, Nightwatch(Cortebert) and Okabum for the insipiration and making the vintage Panerai affliction a participation sport. Thanks for looking.
I'm for the DSN cases myself. Just ask DSN for the preV case with fat lugs but with single-side lug screws. Then drill in the preV screws yourself. On the SS version, the lugs can be re-shaped slightly to reduce the hump, according to your bias. Also depending on the reference pics you look at (I like "www dot van nic dot it"), the DSN preV cases aren't so bad. It'll get you to 95%.
Vintage dial pioneer 'rmcsherry' here and in other forums. I though market price, if you could find them, was still around the GBP35 he originally asked for them unless some mods were made (refinishing, resin indices, etc.).
BTW for RWG members in Singapore willing to order 5 minimum each perhaps we pool together to get the 25 MOQ. I'd be willing to take up to 10. So I just need 3 more guys max. PM me pls. Simon - hope this is ok.
