  1. I've been reading up quite a bit on all the excellent Daytona posts here and after months of resistance, finally sent a mail to Spinmaster asking him to please build me an iconic Daytona. Here is the result: I've seen pics of the gens with dials still white as snow, however I must admit I love the 'tropicalized' (?) effect Spin achieved on the dial. The watch has all the usual Spin upgrades (gen crystal, tube and crown), quality control touches and runs like a COSC champ. Color-wise, the pic below is a very accurate take of what the dial looks like in real life... I realize quite a bit of upgrades are still required to take this to the next OCD level (bracelet, pushers, softening the case edges under the crown, etc.). However I'm really enjoying this just as it is. Thanks for looking and a final question to the experts: Did the exotic dial come in any other colors which are available in the rep world? P.S. @ ZK, looking forward to seeing your vintagized PN.
  2. I missed this one. A true grail indeed! BTW, I have seen PreVs which do not have the flat and polished CPs: http://www.watches24seven.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=315 So I've personally never bothered with it in my own builds.
  3. +1. I usually use a chopstick with a hole bored out at the end. Yours is better!
  4. Another masterpiece. You and PeteM are taking the PreV builds to a whole new level. I was never into this particular model but it's growing on me now. Congratulations!
  5. Mine's somewhere in the post, but luckily we're on the same island.
  6. Mr. ZK, I have your dial's brother.... courtesy of Member#3 as well.
  7. M, amazing! I thought I had already read all your posts. How did I miss this? You could put all your build posts together and publish a great coffee table book. I'd buy it!
  8. At a loss for words. WOW. Congratulations!
  9. Can the experts please comment on Yuki's latest FF offering? http://www.yukiwatch.com/catalog/item/7617720/8946447.htm I've always loved this watch but have been on the fence with DSN's offering. Is Yuki's version worth the $1000 difference? Advice from the experts appreciated.
  10. Not bad. Is he still offering the custom serial engraving for free? I put my sons' birth years on mine... would make a great gift when they're older.
  11. Andy, not having seen your caseback, I'm not sure if you have a 201a or 207a. If that's a 207a, then the CG should be flat: If it's a 201a, then yes the CG is incorrect. It should have more of a hump.
  12. @ ChiMan: Yup, I'm not complaining. I believe I received my trio shortly after you received yours from DW. I was waiting for you to post some pics and your review.... This is how I received my trio BTW. Notice the hands... if you don't know how to fix this yourself then make sure DW gets it right. I was after the cases, so it really didn't bother me. I can't really say the dials, hands and crown are any good. The dial indices are printed on, not engraved. One could do better with DSN's latest offerings. The caseback however is another matter. It's thick and has very good engraving, very close to Jacob's in terms of engraving quality. I have never seen a 111J case in person and they probably are a bit better than DW's fat lug-wise. However in terms of a relatively inexpensive complete PreV package (especially in PVD): Case, CG, caseback and double-sided lug screws - I really can't complain.
  13. Although I've been holding onto a small collection of Fishgodeep's exquisite Pre-V dials, completing the actual projects has taken me more time than I had originally planned. Waiting is part of the beauty of the hobby. However, I also wanted to show Simon his efforts to produce these PreV dials for the community did not go to waste on a noob, languishing in some long-forgotten parts box. So here Simon, wherever you may be enjoying your English summer, is what happened to your dials: 5218-203a 5218-205a 5218-218a All three. You will note how the 203a has a more yellowish tint on the indices as compared to the other two: Some people new to the hobby have been asking about the finish of FGD's dials. I have not matte sprayed these dials. I cased them as-is, in the original condition I received them from Simon. This shot shows how the dials look in various angles, under the same lighting conditions: The specs: Dials: Fishgodeep Hands: Fishgodeep v2 PreV hands Movements: Swiss 6497-1 w/ H3 cannon pinion and hour wheel Crowns: T48s, old school non-springloaded Casebacks: Jakobs (sorry, will post pics later) Straps: 5218-203a: Simona PAV 24/24mm w/ PVD buckle 5218-205a: Dirk 24/24mm 5218-218a: Simona PAV 24/22mm w/ PVD buckle The case... yes these are DW's. I posted these pics earlier in another post just to see if anyone could figure out these were DW's. The double-sided screw-in lugbars come PVD'd. So I sanded the ends to bring out the metal. Better shots of the lug, CG and non-strapnotch: My next project: Thanks for looking!
  14. Just wanted to say this is a very good comparo. Thanks for putting this together.
  15. hackR: could you please post a profile shot of the CG? Did DSN send you the correct flat top version? I noticed in DSN's section the CG for the PreA 004 seemed correct (flat top) while the CG on the PreA 009 seemed to have a thicker CG top. Thanks.
  16. I joined this forum 2 years ago and have to say I've really enjoyed it, learned alot from the resident WIS', and lusted after many of the stunning builds. PreVs continue to be my favorite and although you can get fairly decent PreV's and PreA's out of the box nowadays (DSN's latest offerings), I still prefer the slow deliberate route of accumulating one part at a time... until the job is almost done... Thanks for looking!
  17. Looks beautiful! Can someone please educate me on what 'wokkiness' means?
  18. Ubi: I have the PVD ones from Paul. Try sewing them into the black on black 24/22mm Strapworks Original. I think this works better historically as I've only seen the PreA, mostly rubberized, black straps without the box-stitches. Can't go wrong for $49: http://www.strap-works.com/shop/viewitem.php?productid=24
  19. Great thread. Learned alot. @ Rolexaddict: I belong to your school of thought
