  1. There's some problems with your plan. First of all, tropic crystals are plastic crystals, which has a different crystal construction than a newer sapphire crystal. Also, rep pushers on modern daytona reps aren't that far off, it's not really worth replacing. Second of all, the problem with the modified 7750s are the seconds @ 6, not the center seconds. Yes, they both feed off the seconds wheel, but they're in different parts of the movement. You'd either need to graphite treat the modification plate or just turn it off altogether. Moreover, check freddy333's previous project on the modern daytona. I think he focused more on the profile and dial of the watch.
  2. this is the first daytona I've seen with a 702 crown.... The description says ladies vintage watch hehehe
  3. More like glue feet on the dial or glue the dial straight on the movement. I don't have soldering equipment . well, I picked up the project again after 3 months of hellish summer. I got a new pad. This is one of the prototypes using plates I cut up into pieces in order to save money. It made the plates warp. Needs further refinement though--> decreasing etch depth if you understand what I meant. The ink blots outside what I intended to print. This one is with the deepest etch depth. Planning to do more tonight. Overall, it's light years ahead from what I had 3 months ago. And I'm much more confident I can do better.
  4. Totally love it. Is it me or is your drsd is turning brown?
  5. yes, something a bit off in the pusher locations, it's far lower than what I would expect for a valjoux 72 or an asian venus st-19. One thing about the st-19 movment is that the hours is always running (correct me if I'm wrong), so it would not be affected by your chronograph buttons much.
  6. I like Toronto because I actually love the cold. The people here are nice and very tolerant, with some exceptions of course. There's a couple of downsides though. 1) The mayor... (i still think he's [censored] things up). 2) TTC seats - you guys know what I'm talking about...they just replaced the old trains with new ones but still kept the dirty carpet seats. Toronto is as much fun as you want it to be. There's bars and restaurants everywhere. I really wish more places like st. Lawrence market is near my house. I really like the groceries they sell there and I always wanted to try the peameal bacon. I just wish restaurants are cheaper here so I can go eat there everyday. Any recommendations for a good place to eat (even food trucks) near U of T?
  7. at least you're not Mike Wood redundant hehehehe. He's nuts.
  8. any sub model can have the magnifier removed, so you can go for the sub if that's what you like.
  9. what you need is a bit of red and some patent pending + superdone. I was surprised how much I liked the superdome when I got my PT case set. It just makes the watch looks so whole. But then I broke the crystal hahhaa and put on the service t39. The PT case though, needs a ton of mods, especially on the CG, rehaut (height and diameter) and lugs. But it's well worth it and just so good.
  10. you can never get a good price in vrf. If there was a good deal, it's usually gone in miliseconds. Picked this one up for $165. Figured it'll cost the same on ebay so what the hell. It's an mk1 fat font.
  11. thanks guys, I'm getting there... as soon as I learn how the buttons work in my camera. Maybe I should work on that dial printing thing.. hmm.
  12. what's a Rolex masterpiece? Rolex doesn't make any complications beyond GMT or chronograph if you just count the modern ones. In vintage Rolex, there's the moon phase and the perpetual calendar. Anyways, trust me when I say that any AP Royal Oak Offshore looks like it's over $30k. The rarer ones cost much more, but it's not that rare in the rep world hahaha. If you're in a crowd that knows & hangs around with expensive watches, they usually won't go for Rolex (vintage Rolex is an exception). They go for brands such as Patek, AP, vacheron constantin, and A Lange. Even their simple watches commands respect. Of course, they can also indulge in independent watchmakers, but that's another story. So going with AP is probably the right choice.
  13. So I've tried some new ways to photograph my watch (from previous thread). This time, used a tripod, ambient sunlight, image stacking, and increased aperture. One thing though.. There's a lot of noise... maybe too little lighting? wm9 v2 modded 1665 pics
  14. I wonder if the st19 movement fits a valjoux 72 case though. If it does, this would mean a lot. Wow this is such a great mod.
  15. need 2 movements LOL. The case looks pretty damn good for an aftermarket freddy, even has a gen crown. The engravings in the caseback gave it away??? I'm not an expert in the gmt though. The engravings aren't that bad either 1957 caseback
  16. I thought that was brendan fraser from the mummy no?
  17. thanks guys. I'm using a desk lamp covered in paper for lighting. So that's: - spot metering - white balance card - ambience lighting - increase aperture - tripod. will work on it on monday...
  18. Thanks redwatch, too lazy to get the tripod in the basement...maybe next time. I'm using the standard lens kit. Didn't want to invest in anything yet. Tried to do focus stacking without a tripod is impossible as I just found out. I'm shooting in Raw and just winging white balance in photoshop. about the apeture thing... time to read the manual ...
  19. Of a project I'm currently doing... any tips to immprove sharpness? I'm using a Nikon D90. Maybe a macro lens? improve lighting? Project relevant questions? should I trim the outside CG more or should I keep them thick?? *decisions decisions* case mods so far: trimed cg, rebrush lugs, thinned lugs, reduce height of rehaut to 80%, reduce outer diameter of rehaut to get the correct interference. Inserts: gen 16800 on the wm9, gen vintage 16800 top, gen mk fat font insert bottom (got it for $165 -- bit the bullet so to speak) btw: how come my old 6.0 mm tube tool don't work? I had to use a rat tail file to get the tube in.
  20. tritium lume = phosphorescent material + tritium Thus, even if all the tritium is gone, it'll still glow for about 10 min after being lit.
  21. about the comment "they're laser engraved", it's not true. Laser engraving sucks much more than this particular example. what's so good about this one is the end links and bracelet looks amazingly vintage. the case has an almost correct shape, the crown position is in the almost good position (higher than mid axis). The wrong things I can see (without going into fonts) - The crown is still not perfect, teeth and coronet shape etc - the insert pearl is terrible - I think they determined it's a rep because of the dome. It's terrible and they rep would never got it right. and of course, they would never get the dial right, unless the dial is gen, which is possible because the hands are so good. If a dealer here can find it, this one is a must buy, possible to upgrade this one to something like a 5513
  22. wow yea... the lume application looks terrible and so is the pearl. Funny how the green one looks like a noobmariner. Don't you think the owner would've realized very quickly that the white gold sub should be heavier than a stainless steel one? I wonder who's trying to take who as a chump?
  23. well, from my experience of making dials (procrastinating so far), the controversy does have some fair basis. It would go nicely with a ferrari though. And this one easily wins and Arsenal fans...
  24. Ferrari red...mmmm http://cgi.ebay.com/ROLEX-DAYTONA-PAUL-NEWMAN-MODEL-6263-CIRCA-1970-RED-/180702922817?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item2a12bbc841 sold in antiquorum for $440k in 2003
