  1. Perhaps it's a matter of lubrication? Try this- Dip the entire movement in 10w-60 Pennzoil and then spray the excess off with a garden hose. That'll solve the problem.
  2. Hey gang... Vintage DW's will be shipping out today. Any questions, please let me know. I'll clear out the inbox again...
  3. Timm, Actually, both Daytonas are 16520's with the Zenith movement. Thanks for the interest, but none of my watches are for sale. Sorry...
  4. Ahhhh.... Vintage Tudor reps... Not many available, so it seems that most have to be built I miss my old 7928... Oft times I wish I would not have sold it. I suppose I could build another... Great work on yours, Pete. The snow flake is one of my all time favorites...
  5. I kinda like this one. I'd buy one for my wife
  6. This addiction is worse than crack. And it only gets worse with time Great pics, BTW!
  7. Oooh! Nice one, Jeff!! I've been eyeing that one for a few weeks...
  8. Kurt, The only suggestions I can make is to keep the inside corners sharp (i.e. less rounded corners) and to finish/clean the edges up a bit more. I recently took a couple of minutes to do my CG's as well. I hate doing CG's (along with drilling the lug holes), but I figured they should be done. 30 minutes worth of work- Shaped the inside edges/corners, did the outside shoulder angles and also did the top surface as well to take mine from rounded guards to more pointy guards. I still need to fine polish the surfaces. Before- After- The best thing about the vintages is that with gens, not one of them is really the same as another- At least, not likely after 30/40 years of age. After time and wear, polishing and refinishing by RSCs and/or ind. watchmakers, each has it's own characteristics that differ greatly from another.
  9. Uhhh... So, did you still need one, Richard?
  10. I don't think the illegal nature of reps was ever a question (at least to me).
  11. Replicas do dilute the brand exclusivity and cache of their genuine counterparts... But, at the same time, how many of you bought a genuine based on a replica of the same watch purchased? I bet there are a few of you that fall into that category. I am sure that there are also some that have gone from gens to reps as well (or buy both concurrently). I am sure that the genuine market for watches isn't exactly suffering as a result- Those brands will always have their customers, regardless. And, I for one would still buy a Rolex, regardless of what others might think of it.
  12. I was wondering if someone would catch that. Yes... It is a hommage to the ol' shocker. I was thinking of blacking out the other crown points to turn it into the single finger salute, but I like it's current iteration the most. Heh... Well, I gots to do something with all of my left over junk parts! BTW, a buddy of mine used to have that same TAG Kirium rep that you have (I think). Some quartz jobbie... Looked the same as yours, except his turned his wrist green
  13. Overall, very nice watch, EPZ! Those SELs look nice and crisp...
  14. Bill- If the wheels are lug centric, I believe you need a certain lug nut for those. If I recall correct, it's a conical shaped lug, vs. the sperical shaped (where the lug seats to the wheel). I'm used to dealing mostly with hub centric wheels, so I am not 100% sure on the lug shape... Did AR not send you any lug nuts with the wheels?
  15. EPZ- Man, that gold brick looks quite interesting! Any mods planned?
  16. I'll take a frankie any day of the week
  17. Get a watch that suits your style. Do you find yourself as a suit and tie, business casual or casual kind of guy? Also... What price range are you looking at? $2k to $6k? $6k to $15k? Higher? Also, how do you feel about pre-owned? Personally, I'd go for something vintage that's no longer in production. For example (and on the lower end of the price scale) a vintage Heuer Carrera with V72, or vintage Heuer Monaco. Perhaps a vintage Omega SM300 like this... Very similar to a PO, except vintage Of course, it's all personal preference, and a lot also hinges on how you feel about a particular watch. My advice is to go to as many dealers as possible to try watches on. Sometimes, the watch you least expected (or hadn't considered at all) is the one that smiles at you the most
  18. It would take a lot more than just the rotor to turn the movement into a 4030 I think the Zenith El Primero 400 has 280 parts (+/-); Rolex refinishes or replaces 240 of those parts. They downshift the beat from 36000bph to 28800bph, and they also add a new microstella balance, etc. But the base movement is the same. Besides... For me, the rotors are not a big deal. They're hidden behind a closed caseback, and no one will ever see the movement except for myself and ziggy. So, to me, there's not much point in spending the money for those parts. But I certainly don't mind spending $800 on a genuine dial The black dialed Daytona is using a non-genuine case specifically for the El Primero. It's almost identical to my genuine case, except the lugs are thicker, the CG's are shaped different, and the bezel is different.
  19. For a genuine PN dial for an 18k 6263/5, you're looking at around $14K - $20K US (yes, that's dial only) depending on condition. Now, keep in mind, this is for 100% genuine, original and untouched. Also keep in mind that the complete 6263/5 18K watch is selling in the six figure range as well. These dials are near impossible to source- High cost and a very competitive collector's market keeps items like these off the typical channels like eBay, etc. Same goes for hands as well. Your best bet is to get a high quality aftermarket dial from eBay/CWP, etc. It won't be genuine, and it won't pass the eye of knowledgable collectors, but for a franken project, it should do the trick.
  20. Thanks, gang. While I love most everything in my collection, the Daytonas absolutely get the most wrist time. Everything else just kinda... sits. But, the Daytonas and the SM300 will be going into a safety deposit box, so the 1665 MBW will probably transition back into becoming my daily wearer (or I find something else of interest). Aside from that... I'm thinking the PVD PAM009 will probably not be a long term resident. It's a great watch, but 44mm just looks silly on my wrist
  21. I think I've got 3 or 4 of those...
  22. I'd keep saving. I find that the more money momentum you have going, the easier it is to continue saving. Then, your options are even better...
