Gauging Interest: Custom Made Yacht-master Dials (16622)
ubiquitous replied to ubiquitous's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Okay guys... A small update. Sample/prorotype will be made and sent to me... Should be roughly 15 to 20 days. Once I have somethng I'll post for all to see Best, Randy -
I bet the significant others/wives/gf's would like this watch... It's like having a make-up compact on the wrist.
-
Thanks for the kind words, guys. The 1680 has always been one of my favorite watches, so it's nice to have one back in the watch box As for cost to build something like this- I think I have somewhere around the neighborhood of $800.00 into it, with the bulk of the cost being the watch itself, and the genuine parts. I've got a few more mods planned for the near future which could push this one up a little more...

Man... There is much more interest than I thought there would be! I didn't know there were this many 16622 fans out there! Okay... I will see what I can do for numbers to accomodate those interested. As for pricing... $50 per dial is the lowest my guy will go. I am inquiring on SuperLuminova- I don't know what is being used as the base lume; if SuperL is an option (and is not the base lume used) price may go up accordingly. Hopefully I'll know more soon. Thanks, R -
Mmmmm... Big Pilot

Looking for dial only?

Last week, I received a new addition to my collection to replace a prior MBW 1680 that I had sold (and since regretted). This one is a collaborative effort between myself and Tommy (palpatine). I appreciate and enjoy Tommy's work very much- So much that I just had to have some of his 'artwork' in my watchbox. This watch consists of: -MBW 1680 -Genuine Tropic 127 (ubi) -Genuine bezel insert (ubi) -Genuine crown (palpatine) -Genuine tube (palpatine) -Dial aged (palpatine) -Shaped CG's (palpatine) -Drilled lugs (palpatine) -Genuine springbars (palpatine) -Hollow link Oyster bracelet (ubi) I added a few touches myself, but the overall product is Tommy's. I think he did a fantastic job... A keeper in my book. I find collecting other people's work to be the same as collecting art Maybe a strange way to look at the hobby, but for me it's just another facet of the fascination... Thanks for looking! Best, R

Usually yes, but it depends on the candidates that said datewheels and dials are coming from. Typically, the datewheel is a simple overlay; i.e. a thin metal disc that the date is printed onto that repositions the date to line up with a Rolex dial's date window. In most cases, the datewheels are the same, but there are exceptions to the rule.

Damn... More interest in this than I thought. Okay... Let me see what we can do here. Maybe 25? Not sure about the Ladies' YM, or MOP dials. I can ask... -
I respect my elders With regards to vintage beauties such as your 6536, the slow beat is the charm of such a watch. I love the staggered sweep of the low beat calibers. One of the reasons why I retrofit the 2846 into my MBW vintage watches The herky jerky I'm talking about are the poorly finished movements, like the first round of mod 7750's in the first Daytonas with seconds @ 6:00. Not only were these of slow beat (21.600), they were also not finished very well with regards to the added gears. The seconds hand looked as though it had a few too many whisky sours on a watch that should have been sweeping smooth and steady.

T-39 Superdome? I gots one left from this pair My last one. Holding onto it for a rainy day (or when the right watch comes along for me)... P.S. Congrats on the 2nd MBW. Be careful... These things are very addictive!
-
Yes. If the gears are well finished with tight tolerances, then it will be much smoother. If there is slack, then you'll have a herky jerky seconds hand...

Oops. Fat finger. Yes... 18.000 dead even (thanks Pug). That'll learn me for answering the phone at the office while making a post

I want to say 18.800bph for the 1030.

Okay... Perhaps I will see if I can have production bumped to 20 pcs.... -
28.800 = 8 ticks/second. I should note- My 36.600bph El Primero in my Daytona sweeps so smoothly that it would appear there are no ticks. Just sweep. The 28.800 ETAs in my frankenreps all beat to about 8 ticks/second. My 2824's beat to around 5 ticks/second...

Some additional information (this may be a deal stopper for some of you). -Dial maker only accepts WU. For some, this is not a problem, but I know not everyone likes WU fees. -I am, in no way affiliated with this individual, and am not a dealer or seller of any sort (I am only a collector). Any payment or purchase will need to be handled individually. As such (and to protect my source), I ask that only well known and experienced members apply. If you are new on the forum and/or have a low post count, please provide me with references. Sorry it has to be this way; good sources are hard to find, and I'd prefer to keep it this way Again... This is only the initial developing stage. Most likely, I'll have my guy make a dial, I'll check it over, suggest changes or improvements etc. at which point it will go back to the drawing table to revise. Once we have a solid correct dial, I'll revisit this topic with some pics of the dial installed so that you all know what it will look like. So, be prepared... It may be a patience enduring project. EDIT: It looks like we have 10 now. Thanks for the interest guys... -

I will inquire on the possibility of markers being Superlumed or delivered without any lume. J- Does a magician ever tell the secrets to his tricks? More to come... Just need to start looking into technical details (i.e. dial size, etc). -

I just so happen to have a new EL YM on the way. Hence my posting of this thread. I will have the dial measured once I have it. -

The price will be $50 if I can get interest for a total of 10 dials. Any less, and they'll be $80 ea. And yes... These will be made to fit ETAs. -
Hmmmm... The 2892 also beats at 28.800bph. The sweep should be the same as the other 28.800bph ETAs.

Okay, folks. Just as the title says. I'm working with a dial maker, and am exploring the possibility of having a custom made Yacht-Master dial made for the 16622 Rolesium. The dial will be as close to genuine as possible with regards to font, font color, coronet, and markers. This post is ONLY to gauge interest, so please post here if this strikes your fancy Pricing would be as follows: If we can get 10 people (i.e. 10 dials) price per dial is $50.00 US. If the interest is less than 10 people, price per dial is $80.00 US. Here is the result I am working to achieve with this dial maker... If interested, please post here. I'm looking to LIMIT this run to 10 pcs max. Once interest has been established, I will start working with my dial guy to sort out specifics/details/etc. Best regards, R
